GIVE GOD THE GLORY. A curious feature of the first half of Mark’s Gospel is the pattern of Jesus working a miracle, then telling the recipient of the miracle to keep still about it. Many theories have been offered: Mark is setting the stage for the great “secret” revealed when Peter will proclaim Jesus the Messiah at
Caesarea Philippi; more skeptical commentators offer that Jesus, fully aware of human nature, knew that the way to spread the news was to tell people to keep it secret. The insight into this secret-keeping that serves us well, however, is that Jesus was initiating his public ministry according to the pattern that Paul describes. He was doing it for the glory of God—not for his own benefit, but for that of all. Paul would later write in Philippians that Jesus “humbled” himself to become like us. And we see this humility at work in today’s healing of the leper. Jesus is trying to reveal the presence of God’s reign among the people, not so that he himself might receive the glory, but so that God would be glorified through him. Imitating this pattern, which Paul encourages the Jewish and Greek Christian factions in Corinth to do, still serves us well today.

Our Lady of Grace Rosary Group The Rosary will be prayed in homes and hosted by parishioners on TUESDAY EVENINGS, instead of Wednesdays. The Rosary will be prayed this Tuesday, February 13th at the home of Kristin Taffar, 17 Jenkinsville Rd, Jenkinsville, (A short 11 miles from Church). Please
call Mrs. Taffar at (803) 317-4122 if you can attend. Mrs. Laura Renda is the OLOG Rosary Group Coordinator. Please let her know if you would be willing to host Our Lady of Grace Rosary once a month, 704-840-9860. Come and partake in the beauty and benefits of the Rosary! This weekly devotion is worth the trip! There is fellowship before and after if you like.
"Is anyone among you sick? They should summon the presbyters of the church, to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person and the Lord will raise them up. If they have committed any
sins, they will be forgiven." (James 5:14)
In the sacrament we pray that the sick be healed in body, in mind and in spirit. The mission of the Church is to do what Jesus did. Healing was essential to the mission of the disciples.
If you are experiencing the effects of illness, advanced age, preparing for surgery and seek the healing power of the sacrament you are encouraged to ask Father Dennis to celebrate the Anointing of the Sick with you. You or a family member can contact the parish office at 803.345.3962 or call Father’s cell phone at 843.834.5447.

Meeting Christ on the Cross
With Pilate, we learn what it is to condemn God. With Veronica and Simon, we learn how to help Christ carry His Cross. We learn to see Christ in the faces of others. We yearn to see ourselves in the face of Christ. In these
three beautiful talks, Monsignor James Shea guides us along the Stations of the Cross, teaching us how to better open our hearts to the suffering and loneliness of Jesus on His way to Calvary. Weaving together the insights of keen believers like Fr. Richard Neuhaus, Caryll Houselander, Archbishop Fulton Sheen, and Dr. James Edwards, these powerful meditations take us into the depths of Christ's agony, and back out again into the relief and joy of what His sacrifice means for us.
