The Divine Mercy Novena begins here at ICC on Good Friday, April 3, 2015 at 5 p.m. in the Adoration Chapel. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. We will continue the Novena every evening leading up to the Feast of Divine Mercy

on Sunday, April 12.

A Special Promise of Mercy: Our Lord’s promise to grant complete forgiveness of sins and punishment on the Feast of Mercy is recorded three times in the Diary of Saint Faustina, each time in a slightly different way: I want to grant a complete pardon to the souls that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion on the Feast of My mercy (1109); Whoever approach-es the Fountain of Life on this day will be granted complete forgiveness of sins and punishment (300); The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion will obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment (699).

Extraordinary Graces: Our Lord is emphasizing, through this promise, the infinite value of Confession and Communion as miracles of mercy. He wants us to realize that since the Eucharist is His own Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, it is the “Fountain of Life” (300). Easter Proclamation will be sung and we will read from the Scriptures of the major events which bring us to this evening. Finally, the Alleluia will be sung and the lights turned on and the beautifully decorated church will be a worthy place for the Easter Gospel to be proclaimed. After the homily, we will baptize our Elect and then confirm them and the Candidates for Full Communion. Then we continue in celebration of the Easter Eucharist. There will be a reception following the Easter Vigil in the parish hall to share fellowship with our newly received parishioners. The Sacred Triduum will continue Easter Sunday with the celebration of the Eucharist Sunday morning at seven and nine o’clock here, at nine o’clock in the mission chapel and at eleven-thirty here. Please note that the usual 11:00 Eucharist has been moved to 11:30 to allow the crowed parking lots from 9:00 to empty for the 11:30 crowd. We realize we have many visitors on Easter Sunday and try our best to accommodate them all. The Sacred Triduum comes to its conclusion with Evening Prayer in the Adoration Chapel at six o’clock in the evening. There will be no Evening Eucharist on Easter Sunday. Following Evening Prayer Perpetual Adoration will resume. I think it is important to call to our attention the idea of sacred silence. The church fathers such as St. Augustine, St. Ambrose and other early Christian writers speak of the Triduum as a time when the whole world quietly mourns the death of the Savior and awaits the Resurrection. Because of this reason, once the Triduum begins Holy Thursday evening no other services are scheduled in the main church other than Stations of the Cross on Good Friday. The other Sacraments such as Communion to the Sick, Reconciliation, and Anointing of the Sick are usually only celebrated during the Triduum in emergencies – if a person is near death. Of course, the rest of the world is not necessarily silent and reflective. Some may be preparing to welcome family and friends for Easter, others may have to go to work, and a lot of things are getting done. I think the main thing is that we try, in the midst of our activity, to stay somewhat recollected and remember in prayer, when we may have a quiet moment to ourselves, those who are on the Triduum Journey with us, especially our Elect and Candidates for Full Communion. If you can, it would be nice to get cards for those whose names you received to pray for the beginning of Lent. It has been a good journey and I feel blessed for having made it with you. Love,

This Sunday known popularly as Palm Sunday and “officially,” as Passion Sunday begins the most solemn time of the Church Year. We will begin this Sunday with the blessing of palms and as we process into church will remember Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem. We will move through Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with days of preparation. They will be days of preparation in many ways. The church environment will be prepared for the Triduum which will begin later in the week, our Elect and Candidates for Full Communion will complete their final preparations to be received into the Church, and we will complete our own preparations to enter into the Lord’s Triduum. The Sacred Triduum will begin Holy Thursday in the evening at seven o’clock with the Liturgy of the Lord’s Supper. We will celebrate the Euchar ist of the Lord’s Supper, which will also include the washing of feet of representatives of the parish. We plan to have representation from our newly Confirmed, representation from our RCIA Elect and Candidates, representatives of our Elderly, our Sick, a couple planning on marriage in the near future, a representative from the mission in Livingston, and repre-sentatives of our youth. At the end of the Eucharist, we will process with the left over Communion to the place of repose where the Communion to be distributed at the solemn services Good Friday will be placed for private prayer and adoration until 10:00 at night. The Sacred Triduum will continue on Good Friday, with the Solemn Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion at 3 p.m.. Parishioners arriving for this service will find the church stripped bare. At this service we will proclaim the Passion of the Lord, have Adoration of the Cross, the Solemn Prayers, joining in prayer for each other and the world as Our Lord prayed from his cross. The service will conclude with Communion which has been consecrated the evening before. Stations of the Cross will also be prayed in the evening, as a type of Evening Prayer. The Easter Triduum continues Holy Saturday evening at eight o’clock. Par ishioners ar r iving will find the church in darkness, with the new fire lit outside in the drop off. The service begins outside with the Blessing of the new fire and the Easter Candle. As the ministers and RCIA Elect and Candidates process into the church, the candles of the congregation will be lit from the Easter Candle. The only ones who will not have candles will be the Elect who will have their candles lit later in the ceremony when they are baptized. When all are in the church with lit candles, the

The Steubenville on the Bayou Ministry Team will share the Gospel message that is intended to help you develop a deep-er relationship with Jesus for today’s Catholic teen. This conference is sponsored by the Franciscan University and the Diocese of Houma –Thibodaux. It is held in the Houma Civic Center located in Houma, Louisiana.

Some highlights of the weekend are: Holy Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, men’s and wom-en’s sessions, small group discussion time and meeting new friends.
