Reflecting on the GospelThe disciple’s journey to Jerusalem includes both dying and rising.  When we describe paschal mystery and Gospel living as dying and rising, we are using a metaphor which has  a  number  of  interpretations  and  implications.    In  this  Sunday’s  context  of discipleship, we are saying  that ministry brings us  to a kind of dying  (the pain of  the disciple when other don’t accept the Gospel) as well as rising (the rejoicing that is ours because we are doing  the work of God).   The end of  the  journey  in  Jerusalem brings both the dying and rising, too:  cross and resurrection.  If the journey is taken alone, we will fail.  We are successful, however, when the journey is faithful to Jesus’ ministry and we are open to the Power – the Holy Spirit dwelling within us – given us. Any faithful discipleship and Gospel living calls for an openness to God’s presence in us.  Part of our very ministry,  then, and of  living  the dying and rising mystery  is  to spend time every day in prayer being attentive to God’s presence, the gifts God gives us to be successful, and the power of the Spirit which washes over us.  This kind of prayers helps us remember that the ministry is not ours, but Christ’s.

With the impending CTIC Winter Night Shelter Scheme, coming in to effect in a few weeks time, inflatable beds and sleeping bags will be needed, so any of those you may have, surplus to requirements, would be gratefully received. A BACKGROUND TO MODERN THEOLOGY Father Michael Morton from St. Winefride’s, Sandbach is running a series of talks on 21st 7:30pm at St. Gabriel’s, Alsager; 28

th February 7:30pm at St. Anne’s, Nantwich and 7th March 7:30pm at St. Mary’s Primary School.  These talks will explore the  changes  in  theological  thinking  that have  taken place  in  the  19th  and  20th  centuries  –  a  period of  radical political, economic and social change that has impacted enormously on the moral landscape of our times.  Full details can be found on the noticeboards ‐  flyers are also on the table in the porch. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  

 

FROM THE PRESBYTERY This Sunday at 6:30pm we welcome Jo Boyce and her CJM Music team  to  Church  for  a  free  concert  as  part  of  the  Love  Crewe Mission. No  tickets are  required,  so  fill our beautiful church. A retiring collection will be taken up to cover the bands travelling budget. A full range of events for the Love Crewe Mission are contained in our newsletter. I hope to see you at some of them. Last  weekend,  Robert  Dykes  joined  us  to  begin  his  summer holiday after a great year at Oscott College. The coming weeks will  see  him  attending  ordinations,  taking  part  again  in  parish life, and enjoying a good rest.

This week we  sadly  learnt  of  the  deaths  of Evelyn  O'  Malley  and  Anna  Kent  (nee Grzadzielewska).  Eternal  rest  grant unto them, O  Lord. May  they  rest  in  peace.  Amen. 

 

 Thank you to all those who supported the  last cafe of the year, and  table  top.   We will  be  taking  a  break  in  August  but will return on 2nd September 2016.   We will announce the takings in next weeks Newsletter.    The Cafe Crowd  SUNDAY  MORNING  REFRESHMENTS  AFTER  9AM  AND  11AM MASSES Refreshments will continue and  they will be  led by  the various Parish groups.  This weekend the SVP will be providing you with teas and coffees so do please come along for the social. 

 VOLUNTEERS  NEEDED  TO  HELP  WITH  SUNDAY  MORNING REFRESHMENTS If  there  are  any  Parishioners who would  love  to  get  involved with the running of/helping with the refreshments on a Sunday morning  can  they  please  add  their  names  and  contact  details (email/telephone  number)  to  the  list  at  the  back  of  church urgently please.   From  this  list  I will draw up a rota of helpers. The refreshments would be run on 2 shifts – 8:30 ‐10:30am and 10:30am ‐12:30pm.  Obviously the more volunteers we have the less  of  a  burden  it will  be  for  everyone.    If  you would  like  to discuss  what  is  involved  please  give  me  a  call  during  office hours.  Many thanks for your cooperation.  Helena.

50TH  ANNIVERSARY  DISCO  AT  SAINT  THOMAS MORE  ON   15TH  JULY 9PM‐12PM To  celebrate  the  50th  Anniversary  of  St  Thomas More,  we  are holding a wonderful disco on Friday 15th July at 9pm. There will be a warm  and  cold  food  buffet  served  at 9pm for  you  all  to  enjoy whilst  dancing  and  singing  along  to  60's  music!  We  would  be grateful for donations of small cakes – these can be dropped off to the office during office hours anytime until 2pm on Friday 15th July.  MOTHERS PRAYERS  The Home Shrine will be taken by a member of the parish to have in their home for four weeks. It  is Mothers  Prayers  Groups wish  that  during that time the recipient will hold a prayer  

evening, inviting perhaps members of their family or friends of the parish to join them in an evening of prayer. If you would  like  to have  the Home Shrine  in your home  for  four weeks, please add your name to the list on the table at the back of church.  I will be contacting the parishioners on the list to organise the  collection  of  the Home  Shrine. Along with  it  there will  be  a leaflet  and  book  giving  guidance  of  how  to  honour  the  Shrine whilst in your home. The Sunday Night  Prayer  Group  have  very  kindly  agreed  to dedicate  the  first Sunday of each month  for devotion  to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Mothers Prayers Group would like to say thank you for  this  opportunity  for  the  Parish  to  have  a  dedicated  time  to honour Our Lady of Guadalupe. If  there  are  at  any  time  any  queries  please  do  not  hesitate  in contacting me on 211853 Anne Walker.  SCRIPTURE GROUP Scripture  Group will  be  taking  a  break  for  the  summer  and will return on 15th September 2016.  SVP NEWS     The next SVP meeting will take place on      Wednesday 6th July.  If you would  like to  join St     Mary's SVP please contact Alison Collins on      07957481626 or come along to the next      meeting.  SMARTIES FOR LOURDES –The Lourdes Group will be departing for their Annual pilgrimage on 27th July. Eleven Saint Thomas More pupils will be taking part this year. Thank you to those who have contributed so far.     ALSO   LOURDES BBQ 

This will be  the  last Fundraiser before the group  set off  for  Lourdes and will take  place  on  Sunday  17th  July  after 11am  Mass.  Let’s  pray  that  the  sun shines  for  us  on  the  day.    Do  come along  and  enjoy  a  glass  of wine with the BBQ. Entrance by donations which will help with the cost of funding the pupils and pilgrims on the Lourdes Pilgrimage. 

 

ST MARY’S  PRAYER  GROUP  – meet  Sunday  evenings  7:30pm  – 8:30pm The Prayer Group has now been going for over 10 years and many, many  people  have  seen  great  healings,  miracles  and transformations over that time.  We have people of all nationalities who  regularly  come  to praise God and  come  to  spend  time with Jesus.  In this Year of Mercy we invite and welcome all who would like to come and spend some time with the Lord.  'Come to me all who are weary and overburdened and I will give you rest.' Matt. 11:28  LATH NEWS
