RECONCILIATION CANCELED FOR SATURDAY, JUNE 30 There will be no Confession on Saturday, June 30, at 3:30 p.m.

MASS AT TRINITY VILLAGE Effective July 4, Mass will no longer be celebrated on Wednesdays at Trinity Village due to the significant decrease in participants.

LITURGY NOTES

BEING A WELCOMING CHURCH

Our God is a welcoming God! God welcomes anyone and everyone into God’s family. While He lived on Earth, Jesus always welcomed anyone into His presence or to wherever He was preaching at the time.

With Jesus as our example, we should never be shy about welcoming others. Whether it’s welcoming friends into our home, visitors into our church, or just saying hello to a stranger on the street, as Christians we should display the welcoming attitude of God.

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male or female, for you all are one in Christ Jesus.”

(Gal 3:28)

This verse epitomizes God’s welcoming attitude. In the early Church, it went against their culture to welcome people different from themselves. In today’s world, we too might find it hard to welcome everyone – but if people are believers, they are the same as we are and should be welcomed! It is not always easy to welcome the poor, the sick, or anyone we might consider “different.” Our kindness and openness to all is not only a reflection on Christianity as a whole, but it reflects on how we think of Jesus.

Go and make someone feel welcome today!

Andy

IN LOVING MEMORY

We commend to God Elizabeth “Betty” Stich whose funeral was celebrated here this past week. May her soul and the souls of all our faithful departed rest in eternal peace. Please remember Betty and her family in your prayers.

THE NATIVITY OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST JUNE 24, 2018

FROM THE DESK OF THE

PARISH DIRECTOR We welcome Fr. Ralph Gross this weekend. He hasn’t

been here for a weekend Mass in the past, but has celebrated a holy day and a few weekday Masses here in the last two years. Fr. Ralph and I worked together at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in New Berlin in the 90s. He was chancellor of the Archdiocese at the time and lived and helped out at the parish. He will be with us again next Sunday. Bishop Sklba will celebrate next Saturday’s Mass.

Included in today’s bulletin is the 2018-19 budget. A few highlights for you to consider:

· We have decreased the amount expected for weekly contributions/offertory collections given this year’s experience, but only slightly. Hopefully now that our Restoring Our Buildings campaign has ended, our weekly contributions might increase again and be closer to last year’s amounts. (We actually ended last year’s contributions more than $6,000 over budget.)

· Because we were not able to hire a new part-time maintenance person, we have had to outsource cleaning of the church and school, lawn care and snow shoveling. As you can imagine, those costs are greater than adding someone to our staff.

· As with our past school building tenants, The City School will pay 90% of school utilities, repairs and maintenance in addition to their rent.

· We have budgeted the installation of a new boiler for the church building. You will see that expense under Major Maintenance and Capital Expense. We have two boilers for the church. For most of the heating season, one boiler is a backup to the other. When it gets very cold outside, the heating load exceeds one boiler’s output and both boilers will run. One of them died at the end of the heating season and will be replaced this summer.

· Major Improvements - School Building includes new doors in the gym which need to be replaced due to asbestos and painting of the gym.

· The expenses of our Restoring Our Buildings campaign are not reflected in this budget.

You have been so very generous in giving to the Restoring Our Buildings campaign and that is greatly appreciated. However, our weekly giving is so very important to the daily operation of the parish and our many ministries. You will see in today’s bulletin that we are at a deficit of $19,025 for weekly contributions. There’s only one week left to the current fiscal year, although next weekend’s collection will be the start of the new fiscal year. Hopefully we can turn that trend around for the coming year. Restored buildings are wonderful, but if we don’t have the funds to do our work, they won’t really matter.

I mentioned above that our Restoring Our Buildings appeal has ended. We kicked that off in August 2017 with a goal of $60,000. We have pledges of $78,464 and already have $73,143.67 in hand. Most people who pledged have already made payment in full. Only a few continue making payments. Thank you again for that generosity!

In Christ’s peace,

Debbie

MAN WITH A SIGN If you were at our 9:30 Mass last weekend, you may have noticed a man sitting at the corner of 76th Place and Brown Deer Rd. He was holding a sign that said, “The People of this Church Hurt Me.” He has not contacted the parish, so we do not know what his issue is. If he returns, we will talk with him.

CONTRIBUTION ENVELOPE MIX UP If you receive a packet of contribution envelopes from Ascension Lutheran Church in Arizona make sure you open the envelope. They will most likely be your envelopes for St. Catherine. There was a mix up with some of the packets. Only the outside envelope was incorrect. If you threw this packet away thinking it was junk mail, please call the parish office and a new packet will be sent to you. We’re told only a few parishioners were affected.

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETS JUNE 26, 2018 Our last Parish Pastoral Council meeting for the fiscal year is this Tuesday, June 26. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. We will welcome the newly elected members. Our council members welcome your input and questions. You may contact members directly and can find their contact information on our parish website or by calling the parish office.

SENIOR CLUB The next meeting of the St. Catherine Senior Club is this Tuesday, June 26. They meet the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 1 - 3:30 p.m. in the Granville Room. All are welcome.

SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL FOOD COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND Our first weekend of each month food collection will take place next weekend. If you prefer to give a financial contribution, please make checks out to St. Vincent de Paul and place in a separate envelope marked “St. Vincent de Paul”. Thank you for your continued support of the pantry. Your generous donations make it possible to feed needy families in our neighborhood.

PRAYER AND WORSHIP COMMITTEE - ARE YOU CALLED? The Prayer and Worship Committee is looking to add another faithful parishioner who would be interested in joining or learning more of what our mission is for serving our parish. Please contact the Chair, Kevin Senfleben, at 262-408-1543.

INTERESTED IN OUR COLUMBARIUM? As we’ve been announcing, we are considering the addition of a columbarium in our cemetery, a structure for urns holding a deceased’s cremated remains. Before we proceed, however, we need to know if there is an interest. The response thus far has been positive. If you would like to add your name to the list of people who may be interested in a niche, please contact Debbie Hintz. It would be helpful to do so within the next weeks. You will not be making a firm commitment, just expressing a possible interest. To view the bulletin insert that includes more information, go to the home page of our parish website. Additional copies are also available in the main entrance of church.

GARDENERS NEEDED Do you like to garden and have some time to help care for ours at the parish? Ginny Jacoby coordinates our gardening volunteers and is looking for a few more people. It's something you can do around your own schedule. Interested or have questions? Please contact Ginny at 414-354-7325.
