From the Rector

Dear People of Holy Family Cathedral:

What an exciting month we had in May: the parish children honoring the

Blessed Virgin Mary on the first Sunday of May; the reception of First Holy

Communion by twenty-seven of our parish children on Mother’s Day; the most

successful, to date, Holy Family School Auction where we honored Kay Keith

as a living example of this year’s theme “Honoring Our Past, Looking toward

our Future”; the Ordinations of Fr. Kerry Wakulich and Deacon Jorge Alfonso

Gomez Alvarado; and of course the graduation of this year’s Eighth Grade

from our parish school. I think we even managed a few weddings during this

month as well. In addition to this we managed to celebrate the great feasts of

the Ascension of the Lord, Pentecost and The Most Holy Trinity. I think the

month was a success.

Now summer is upon us and life will slow down just a bit for a few weeks. I

remind you however that the bills continue to come in the mail and the air con-

ditioning is still used and the lights are still necessary for worship. All of this

testifies to the need we have for you to continue to support your Cathedral dur-

ing the summer months. The Sunday collection is still our primary and neces-

sary means of income. While we all want a little vacation during the summer

months, our needs here at the Cathedral continue to exist. So please do not

forget us wherever you may be over the summer months.

I hope you all have a refreshing and healthy summer. Hope to see you in

Church!

Sincerely in the Holy Family

Notes from the Knightstand

BY MARTIN REIDY

Summer's here-

rain and heat!

Means 'skeeters' near-

so grab that Deet!

Nell, that was quick! Last month I

wrote that we would see you in the

Fall-only to be told, much to my sur-

prise, that there was this month's

summer issue! Thus, there is not

much new of which to write. How-

ever, I did write that pick-ups would

cease, I believe, the 28th of May as I

was under the impression that the

garage sale would be held the first

week-end of June. Too late to cor-

rect that error of information I discov-

ered that the Sale will be held June

17th-19th. So, pick-ups continue/

continued, as the time case may be,

until June 9th. I hope that this error

and/or confusion on my part was not

detrimental to anyone anxious to

donate to this very worth cause. If

so, save it for next year - in the event

that we do this again! Have a safe

and enjoyable 4th of July — and we

will see you in the Fall! Pax

Summer sessions have begun and continue on most Wednesday eve-nings at 6:30. We’ve already had sessions on the basics of what the Church teaches and on the authority of the Church. We’ll be covering a wide range of topics (see the calen-dar on the HFC website: www.holyfamily-tulsa.org), but each session is designed for open discus-sion of any topic an individual may bring. There is always room for more inter-ested questioners, so do encourage anyone you know who might have some curiosity to join us. While we are presenting an overview of spe-cific topics each week, the main goal is to get to know those who are curi-ous about Catholicism and to get their questions answered. The intent is to simply present what the Church teaches, how it communicates, and what the living Catholic is like. We meet at 6:30 in the Halpine room

on Wednesdays. Entry is via the

trance is locked.

The individuals who have attended so far have brought thoughtful ques-tions. Most have made extensive personal research efforts and have found greater understanding in our group and the surroundings of the church. We are excited to continue these relationships that have already become friendships.

The Cathedral Women's Club Annual

Garage Sale Fundraiser will be in the

auditorium, June 17 & 18, 7:30 a.m.-4:00

p.m.; June 19, 7:30 a.m.-Noon. Call

Mary, 749-5286 or Ruth, 627-2175 for

pick-up service, which will end June 5.

Items may be dropped off in the audito-

rium beginning June 14, 7:30 a.m.-4:00

p.m. Your donations allow us to help the

Cathedral, our Cathedral school, Meals-

on-Wheels and other events and chari-

ties.

Cathedral School Auction benefits Endowment

MARY BOURSHESKI, NANCY MULLIKIN, AND JEAN CALDWELL LEE AND JAY LUETKEMEYER, MR. & MRS. TOM LUETKEMEYER, AND MSGR. GIER ENJOY THE AUCTION.

Holy Family Cathedral School recently held the 2010 Auction to benefit Holy Family Cathedral School. Mary Kay Stromie Keith was honored and inducted into the Holy Family Cathedral School St. Katharine Drexel Soci-ety. The 2010 Auction was one of the most successful auctions to date, raising $40,000 for the Holy Family Ca-thedral School Endowment.

Holy Family would like to thank all that attended and vol-unteered for a truly successful evening. We would also like to again recognize Kay Keith for her continued sup-port of our wonderful school.

With gratitude,

Jay Luetkemeyer

For the past three years, we have celebrated the life and

generosity of one of our benefactors. This year, in keeping

with our theme, “Honoring our Past, Looking toward our Fu-

ture”, we honor Mary Kathleen Stromie Keith. She is better

known to us as Kay and certainly is the embodiment of this

year’s theme. She has been a constant and consistent force

in her support of her alma mater.

May God continue to empower us to proclaim His message

and educate His children. Thank you once again for

your presence and support.

Sincerely in the Holy Family,
