President’s Report -Hello to all members and friends. Not such a big welcome to the winter though mainly because I hate it with a passion. Too cold to get up in the morning and when I do it’s dressing like an Eskimo. The previous two monthly shows were very good musically and with attendances. In May we had the Steve Bartel Band who were exceptional and of course a full house. What a great artist. The band had the dance floor full all day. Then in June we were entertained by the Creole Cowboyz who had a seven piece band. They did a great job and seem to be getting better and better each time they perform. Colin McDonald was the guest artist in May and Chooka Williams in June. Good entertainment by both artists. On Sunday August 6th, the Club is having its 28th Annual General Meeting starting at 11.00am. The following positions will be tabled for nominations.President for 2 yearsSecretary for 2 yearsPublicity Officer for 2 yearsCommittee persons 3 for 2 yearsVice President (casual vacancy) for 1 yearCommittee persons There may be one or two casual vacancies for 1 yearIt is imperative that all these positions be filled at the AGM so as it can reduce the workload on the rest of the committee. As President of the club I am asking you to consider taking on a position, albeit an Executive

position (at least 12 months membership required) or a Committee position where any member can apply.I myself had no intention of going on committee, having previously served 9 years as Treasurer, but I changed my mind following the untimely death of Russell Byrne (Pres.) and put the Club before my own life intentions and took on the President’s position. I have not regretted my decision at all. I now intend to nominate for a further 2 years. Any member can do the same as I did and apply for whatever position that would suit your liking.Nomination forms will be included in this Country Call newsletter along with nomination forms for the Merit award.
The Catering Co-ordinator in the past was taking pre-orders for lunches. This procedure has now ceased as it was deemed unfair for those that waited in line to purchase lunch. The only pre-orders taken now are from committee and the band.
The next show on July 2nd is the Trevor Keilar band along with Robyn Gleeson. This is a show not to be missed. Their entertainment variety is full on and first class. They are travelling from Warnambool in Victoria to entertain us.
Keep it country.

Robyn Gleeson“I have worked in shearing sheds, been a cook, owned a pub, been a bookies clerk for my dad, owned and operated a large bakery but more recently I have been working in the Real Estate industry.I started singing about 16 years ago but have become a bit more serious about it in the last few years.I have recorded 3 CD’s and they are doing very well for me. Lately I have been doing “Tribute to Johnny Cash and June Carter” shows with Trevor Keilar at festivals and country music clubs which include the Port Fairy Folk Festival and the Lake Charlegrark Country Music Marathon. In my own right, I sing the songs of Patsy Clyne, Isla Grant.Connie Stephens and other favourites from yesteryear, I’ve done many guest artist appearances at country music clubs more particularly in South Australia and Victoria. I am hoping to go to Tasmania and New South Wales later this year to expand my audience a bit. I enjoy travelling around, singing, and meeting new people.”The above was on the Kyabram RV Country Music Corral website!I first heard Robyn at a Country for Cancer gig in Mt Gambier in June of 2011 and have enjoyed
her performances through the years since then at Barmera (2012 and 2017), Lake Charlegrark, Mount Gambier and at the Southern Country Music Club in 2016. She has a wonderful voice, we are in for a treat! Ian Fisk
Trevor Keilar“In my younger days, I enjoyed a successful career in professional running whilst working as a self-employed builder.I retired from building and took up performing country music after being inspired by the Movie “Walk the Line”. I’m in my 9th year of singing country music mainly doing “Tribute to Johnny Cash” Shows. I’ve travelled a lot of places, particularly in Victoria and South Australia, performing at numerous country music clubs and Festivals and meeting a lot of interesting people. I went to Tamworth five years in a row, busking in Peel Street, selling a lot of the seven CD’s I have recorded over the past few years. Some of the bigger Festivals I have been in are, the Port Fairy Folk Festival, Horsham CMF, Lake Charlegrark, Barmera and Swan Reach Country Music Festivals.”The above was also on the Kyabram RV Country Music Corral website!Robyn and Trevor will be joined by Leon Rowbottom on keyboard.

Len and Lorraine Wakefield Memorial FundSubject to certain conditions, the purpose of the fund is to assist younger talent with proven ability: a) in entering talent quests throughout South Australia, Mildura and Tamworth, b) by payment or part payment of professional tuition, and c) towards the cost of a musical instrument. The fund is administered by the ACMC committee with expenditure limited to the interest from capital invested (plus raffles from time to time), with all payments made to the appropriate body. Annually an awardee is chosen by the Full Committee. Contributions to the fund, which may be made to the club treasurer at any time will be acknowledged in the club newsletter.
After Lorraine’s passing the fund was renamed to include Lorraine’s name. The selection procedure has had to be changed slightly as there are fewer talent contests held at present than in the past.
Our Annual General Meeting on August 6th. The positions up for election include:- President, Vice President, Secretary and Publicity Officer plus five general committee positions. Please consider nominating yourself or others to fill these positions! Nomination forms are included with this Country Call. (and on our website) Please also consider possible candidates for our Merit Award.
Annual General Meeting August 6th
Pre 2006 Country Calls and PhotosBob Johnston has not yet sent any issues past the 1989 issues, but has promised to do so soon. My son is gradually scanning issues from August 1998 to Jan 2006 (from hard copies provided when I took over from Roger Parker). From the scanned images, I have put together many issues from that period. Check our website for the issues available. More will be uploaded to our website as they are received.
I also went through many of my ACMC photos from 1999 to November 2008 and have uploaded many to our website, do have a look. If anyone has more photos, please get them to me either prints or digial copies, prints I will scan and return. Robert Chapman has covered many shows I have missed as did Bob Sharrad.
