Lesotho can use the yield of Podihali Dam to generate power as it comes available.

Provides for environmental flows in the Caledon / Mohakare.

Can supplement supply to Maseru.

Provides dilution for the Sulphate and Chloride pollution from Maseru’s clothing manufacturers.

ENVIRONMENTAL FLOWS FOR THE MOUTHIncreased flows in the lower Orange will address salinity increases.Will improve environmental quality in the estuary and river.The effects of Vioolsdrift Dam on salinity would have to be investigated.Vioolsdrift is likely to experience algal blooms, but downstream blooms could be reduced.
