ACCIÓ is the Catalan Agency for Business Competitiveness and operates worldwide as Catalonia Trade & Investment.

Catalonia Trade & Investment assists Catalan companies in their efforts to tackle foreign markets. The Agency also advises companies on productive investments in Catalonia. Last but not least, Catalonia T & I boosts the innovative profile and the interconnectedness of Catalan companies through several instruments. These range from advisory and assistance in the fields of technology transfer and applied innovation, the organisation of B2B events, or the funding of bilateral international innovation projects (NUCLIS), to talent acquisition (TECNIOSpring+). Our certification label TECNIO aims at enhancing the capacities of Catalan suppliers.Catalonia T & I has a network of 39 offices worldwide which work in close cooperation with the Headquarters in Barcelona in order to achieve the strategic objectives of the Agency.

This year Catalonia Trade & Investment is leading a delegation of eight Catalan industrial companies and one Technology Center (Eurecat) to the Hannover Messe, in cooperation with Hessen Trade & Invest GmbH. Both public agencies are members of the Enterprise Europe Network, an initiative of the European Commission launched in 2008 to help businesses innovate and grow.

Catalonia Trade & Investment’s International Innovation Program The main goal of this Program, launched in 2014, is to create opportunities for technology transfer and to support Catalan technology-based companies in their internationalisation. Almost all External Offices of the Agency’s network play a role in this regard.

The services offered by this program include:

Supplier-search and identification of technological partners

Drawing up projects and putting technological offers together

Legal advice as to consortium agreements, intellectual property rights, etc.

Advising on funding schemes and tax incentives

Brokering the participation of Catalan technology centres in international con-

sortia

Catalonia Trade & Investment manages a funding scheme called NUCLIS to support international technological cooperation, R&D projects specifically, between Catalan companies and companies from Germany, Chile and Israel. In the framework of the bilateral scheme with Germany, NUCLIS is coupled with the international branch of the Zentrales Innovationsprogramm Mittelstand – ZIM, funded by the Federal Government.

Catalonia has an industrial, innovative and competitive economy. Industry represents 21% of Catalonia’s GDP. This percentage is above the European average and already meets EU 2020 objectives

Catalonia has a powerful ICT sector, with more than 12,800 companies, more than 14,000 million euros of annual revenue and more than 200 million euros spent annually on R & D investment.

The combination of an industrial economy with a powerful ICT sector and other important emerging sectors (such as Mobile, IoT and 3D Printing) has a pull-effect on Industry 4.0 and is a motor for growth in Catalonia, generating wealth and quality jobs.

Catalonia has up to 365 companies supplying Industry 4.0 products and services. Besides, there are 21 certified technological centres with the TECNIO network, 14 professional associations, 20 training providers, and 10 industrial clusters linked to the concept of Industry 4.0.

82.7% of those suppliers are small and flexible companies which offer first level technology for Catalan companies and multinationals based in Catalonia.

Catalonia is also home to a powerful hub of digital entrepreneurship, with a quite a few number of start-ups specialized in Industry 4.0 solutions. All of them build up an ecosystem named the Barcelona & Catalonia Hub.
