Foreword
This publication represents the 3rd edition of the catalogue of Moldovan researchers, research centres, non-governmental organizations, and companies active in the fields of Environment and Energy research. It contains current and detailed information on contact persons, expertise or project ideas, experience of participation in international and national projects etc. It is a useful tool for finding appropriate partners for your R&D activities. The organizations and the researchers featured in this catalogue are looking for partners and consortia for the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) and other international cooperation research projects.
High Quality Partner Search for International users:Environment & Energy Research Moldova is the source for finding
high quality research institutions and companies in Moldova. Moldova will formally become associated to FP7 from 1 January 2012. In practical terms this means that Moldovan research organizations will be considered as being from an associated country for all the calls from the 2012 work programmes, as grant agreements for these calls will all be signed after 1 January 2012.
This Catalogue offers the opportunity to gain current and detailed information on numerous Moldovan Environment and Energy research entities. All entries are quality checked.
Registration for Moldovan organizations:If you want your organization to be featured in the Environment &
Energy Research Moldova, please contact the Energy & Environment National Contact Point for the Seventh Framework Programme in the Republic of Moldova, Dr. Veaceslav Boldescu. Contact details can be found bellow. The registration in the catalogue is free of charge.

Brief description
The Institute of Applied Physics (IAP) decided to set up the Atmospheric Research Group (ARG) in 2003.
Core competencies / Keywords
solar radiation, UV radiation, aerosol optical properties, ozone column content
Expertise / Competencies / Technologies / RTD know-how
☐ Monitoring of solar radiation from UV to IR and atmospheric long-wave radiation at the radiometric complex ☐ Investigations of atmospheric aerosol optical and microphysical properties within the global AERONET project ☐ Total column ozone content monitoring ☐ Analysis of temporal variability of measured elements and their mutual interconnections
Research activities of ARG group consist in study of aerosol optical thickness, column ozone content and solar irradiance variability in an urban environment. In Moldova, this complex program of atmospheric aerosol, ozone and solar radiation research is being carried out for the first time. Monitoring of atmosphere and solar radiation is being realized at ground-based station at the IAP. The station is situated in an urban environment of Chişinău city. The station consists of multifunctional radiometric complex, sun photometer Cimel 318, hand-held ozonemeter, and automatic weather station. The complex consists of stationary and moving platforms equipped with nine broadband sensors for measurements direct, diffuse and total solar radiation within the wavelength region ranged from UV-B to long-wave spectra. Moving platform performs active sun tracking in automatic mode to measure direct solar radiation. Solar and atmospheric radiation is measured in continuous mode. Total ozone content in a column of atmosphere at the station is regularly measured with ozonemeter. Measurements of atmospheric aerosol optical properties are carried out with sun photometer. Measurements of main surface meteorological elements are carried out in continuous mode at the weather station. In 2003, ground based solar radiation monitoring station at the IAP was registered in Global Atmosphere Watch Station Information System (GAW SIS) as a Regional fixed station in WMO RA VI – Europe. Areas of Application Data on solar radiation, aerosol optical properties and total column ozone are submitted to the:
☐ Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET), NASA/GSFC; ☐ Solar Radiation Network (SolRad-Net), NASA/GSFC; ☐ World Ozone and Ultraviolet Radiation Data Centre (WOUDC) GAW WMO; ☐ World Radiation Data Centre (WRDC), GAW WMO.
Solar radiation data in visible wavelength range is used for assessment of solar energy potential for application photovoltaic (PV) and thermo conversion units in Moldova. Data on total column of ozone and UV-B radiation present an interest to medical institutions dealing with the eyes and skin diseases and to researchers interested in analysis of temporal variability of ozone layer. Ozone data from ground observation are utilized for validation data retrieved from EP TOMS and Aura OMI measurements. Solar flux data are of interest for studying it local variability on the Earth’s surface, for modelling regional climatic changes, and they are used for validation of data retrieved from satellite platform METEOSAT-9 observations in the course of generation new solar radiation database HelioClim-3. Data on aerosol optical properties are used for evaluation of their influence onto surface level of solar radiation and for evaluation of the aerosol pollution of the atmospheric air.

Brief description
The Institute of Applied Physics (IAP) decided to set up the Laboratory of Materials and Structures for Solar Energetics in 2006.
Core competencies / Keywords
alternative energy, bifacial solar cells, pyrolytic pulverization
Expertise / Competencies / Technologies / RTD know-how
☐ Selection and investigation of semiconductor materials to be used in developing structures for photovoltaic conversion of solar energy, ecologically friendly energy sources;
☐ Participation in the implementation of national and international programs/projects of valuation of sources of renewable energy;
☐ Elaboration of experimental samples of silicon photovoltaic (PV) modules by spray pyrolysis. One of the major problem of the Republic of Moldova is the shortage of conventional energy sources. About 98% of its total energy consumption is imported. Partly, this problem can be solved by renewable energy sources utilization, namely PV conversion of solar energy. In the Republic of Moldova the average total sunshine hours constitute about 2200 h/year. One of the latest elaborations is bifacial solar cells fabrication using a simple spray method. This technology needs considerably lower temperatures, no more than 500°C, and shorter time than in the case of p-n junctions fabrication. The photoelectric parameters of the elaborated bifacial solar cells have been determined in standard AM1,5 conditions. Bifacial modules can produce up to 50% more electric power, are transparent to infrared radiation, have a high power-to-weight ratio. A novel type of bifacial cells containing only isotype junctions was elaborated. Their advantages are: the frontal junction is obtained with a simple spray technique at low temperatures, it is not necessary a double diffusion process; the frontal ITO layer is at the same time collecting electrode and anti-reflection coating. Areas of Application The main field of SC application is power supply of different consumers, especially in the case of remote from the electrical greed consumers. Besides the conventional application for SC, bifacial SC have many special applications like the power supply of satellites in low-earth orbit or geostationary orbit, or photovoltaics in buildings. The summary efficiency is 13% and the improvement of the parameters is possible. The spraying methods of monofacial and bifacial SC preparation are protected by:
☐ Moldovan Patent: Method for obtaining of oxide semiconductor thin films N MD 2245; ☐ SU Patent: Method of photovoltaic cell preparation N1533590; ☐ Moldovan Patent Application: 2007 0084.
