Why wood?

Few materials have the wood capacity of evocation. For thou-sands of years humans have manipulated it to serve our needs. Throughout history the wood has been used in many fields, as in aeronautics, nautical or construction. We see it in housing, tools, and even the early bicycles of history were made in wood. Today it remains an irreplaceable material in innumerable elements and applications that accompany us in our daily lives.

Timber fibre has characteristics of hardness, resistance and light-ness that make it the perfect material to manufacture bicycles. The features that make timber a unique material, are its strength on the fatigue of the frame that supports much more vibration by its own molecular structure; the rolling is most convenient and comfortable; as timber is a natural living element, it is possible its restoration and reparation, so if it is impacted, fissures will not be expanded and it is a material that contributes to sustainability.

Contrary to what many people may think , our creations with tim-ber, which we submit to a process of sealing with epoxy resin si-milar to the nautical, offer high resistance to environmental fac-tors such as humidity, rain or ultraviolet radiation. When timber is combined with a set of advanced technologies it becomes a high performance material that will forever change your concept of the timber.

Wood is a friendly material to the environment, a renewable raw material whose sustainable use benefits the environment and society. Almost imper-ceptibly, wood surrounds us in our everyday life and qualities include that it is recyclable, contributes to mitigate climate change, hardly uses energy or emit C02 in their preparation and offers solutions that enable innovative designs.

We talk about sustainability from the manufacturing process- since it uses less energy and emitted less C02 than in the manufacture of bicycles made with other materials-, and also in terms of the choice of our raw.

In our commitment to the principles of Corporate So-cial responsibility, the timbers from which we manu-facture our TBKbikes come from sustainably mana-ged forests.

From TBKbike, we select the best timbers from com-panies that have relevant certifications and belong to the Spanish Association of Commerce and Industry of Wood, entity committed to responsible timber.

Environmental Sustainability

Wood is a friendly material to the environment, a renewable raw ma-terial whose sustainable use benefits the environment and society.

The frame, made with timber, does not require any specific maintenance. Our frame warranty complies with the applicable regulation/legis-lation. This is a 5 years warranty and covers the breakage of frame for manufacturing defects.

Waterproof qualities and UVA / UVB filter

The timber frame is totally waterproofed against any temporary in-clemency. This is due to the water-resistant treatment that carries, similar to what it is used in the nautical. This treatment: in addition to the beauty that brings, form a barrier against the penetration of moisture in form of water (case of rain) or in form of water vapor (more general case).Through this treatment each piece is impregnated with resin epo-xy, resulting in waterproofing. This also protects our pictures from the ultraviolet radiation (UVA and UVB). An epoxy sealer consists of two parts: a resin and a hardener. When these two chemicals come into contact occurs a reaction that pro-duces a hard protective coating that can be used on wood and me-tal. The resulting layer of epoxy is resistant to UV and water. There are many different types of epoxy resins, but paints and sealers of this compound are the best for waterproofing. Unlike other types of waterproof sealers, which need to be reapplied every few years, an epoxy sealer can last indefinitely.
