Application areasThe compact submersible mixers of the RW series havebeen designed for a wide range of applications. Theunits can, for example, be used for many mixing andstirring applications in sewage treatment plants and inindustrial and chemical processes.
The submersible mixers can be installed in all tankshapes and sizes. Depending on the requested intensityof mixing and flow formation, one or more mixers maybe installed in a single tank.
SelectionIn order to ensure optimum selection we ask for thefollowing information:
Purpose of applicationTank shapeTank dimensionsMedium to be mixedViscosity, specific weightTemperature,dry-mattercontent, etc
Installation
ABS submersible mixers are generally installed using auniversal guiding system which allows use of the unit atdifferent water depths in a tank.
Dead zones within a tank are therefore avoided.Using the ABS guide tube system it is a simple matterto raise or lower the mixer for maintenance purposes orfor repair even when the tank is flooded.

The major advantage of horizontally operating submersible mixers in comparison to conventional mixers, is that theyallow the possibility to direct the flow in different directions. This allows better optimization of the flow pattern in thetank. Depending on the location of the mixers we get different types of flow patterns which have different effects.
In order to ensure the best arrangement for an effective energy saving mixing operation in the various types oftanks, the positioning hints in the sketches below should be carefully considered.
The rotating flow formation is the simplest type of flow. Itis an effective method to mix materials with a high dry-matter content, as a high flow velocity is establishedafter a relatively short running time.
It should be noted, however, that heavier particlesmay be deposited on the floor in the center of the tank
Effective thorough mixing in a round tank, withoutrotation of the material, can be achieved if thesubmersible mixer is set-up at an angle of 7 to 10° tothe center line of the tank.
The height of liquid in the tank should be within theratio 0.3 to 1-times the tank diameter.
Rectangular tanks can be effectively mixed if the mixers are installed as shown in the illustration below. When using amixer the length/width relationship of the tank should not be greater than 5. Otherwise a number of mixers should beinstalled. Optimum energy usage is achieved if the length/width ratio does not exceed 2.5.
For tank widths which are smaller than 5 to 8 times thepropeller diameter, the mixer can be located as shownabove.
In larger tanks a position as per this illustration shouldbe carried out.
When using a number of submersible mixers the arrangement in these illustrations is recommended.

The RW 200 mixers are mainly used for mixing applications in pump sumps. Thefunction of the mixer is to thoroughly mix up the contents of the sump before thepumps themselves start up, so that after completion of the pumping only a smallamount of deposit remains. Silting up of the pump sump is therefore effectivelyavoided.
In addition this mixer can prevent the formation of floating crusts in pumpsumps.
In general the operation of the mixer inthe pump sump is controlled as follows:
The mixer is operated by a level controlunit which switches it on shortly before thepumps themselves are switched on. Ingeneral a timer allows 30 to 45 secondsmixing before starting of the pumps. Anadditional level control unit switches off themixer while propeller coverage of 30 to40 cm remains.

All metal parts in contact with medium are manufac-tured of alloy chrome nickel steel. Mechanical seal ismanufactured of pure sintered silicon carbide (SiC) andis, therefore, resistant to almost all components found insewage.
The jacket of the power supply consists of sewageresistant elastomer (CSM).
For special applications seals and cable protectivesleeving of other elastomers, as well as anti-abrasivepropeller coatings are available.

ABS submersible mixers are normally installed using auniversal guide system, which allows the flexibility ofusing the unit in the tank at different water depths andthereby avoiding dead zones. When using the ABS guiderail system the mixers can be easily raised or loweredfor repair or maintenance even when the tank is full
An installation kit consists, for example, of:
Lifting frame withrope hoist andstainless steelrope
Upper holdingbracket with guidetube clamping
Closed mixerbracket
