Created by guest designers from various disciplines, Quinze & Milan collections

encompass parts of a whole rather than existing as solitary objects. These are

designer pieces that imbue a space with meaning by skirting the edges of all that

is obvious. Pieces that exude energy and push the envelope of design.

All our collections are rooted in specific projects, including public schemes, thus

guaranteeing an extensive development phase and thoroughly tested results.

Furniture designs are available in a standard range of 31 QM FOAM™ colours,

as well as with leather or fabric upholstery.

A STANDARD, HEAVY DUTY COATING FOR ARCHITECTS & DESIGNERS

Next to the original QM FOAM™ we all appreciate, its new, extra-strong Heavy Duty variant

is a water- and weather resistant finish that can be easily cleaned with soap and water —

making this coating extremely well suited for both in- and outdoor use, especially for public

spaces, schools, shopping malls, theatres, … and other intensively used public interiors.

Offered in 31 standard colors, (and your own RAL color of choice)

this new coating also contains a UV filter to prevent fading from the sun.

In 1999, the iconic PRIMARY collection kicked off the succes of QM FOAM™, a proprietary

material originally developed and produced by Quinze & Milan. QM FOAM™ refers to the

result of a chemical reaction between the polyurethane foam shape and different layers,

with different compositions, sprayed on to it.

It is a flame-, water- and weather resistant compound that can be cleaned with soap and

water—making these pieces suited for in- and outdoor use, especially for pool terraces,

child-oriented areas, and health-care interiors. Offered in countless colors, the coating

also contains a UV filter to prevent fading from the sun.

QM FOAM™ ensures easy cleaning, superior comfort and durability.

Stripped to the essence, PRIMARY is the first comprehensive Quinze & Milan

collection and a line that deserves to be called a Quinze & Milan classic.

PRIMARY kicked off the use of QM FOAM™, a proprietary material developed

and produced by Quinze & Milan. The pieces in this collection include stools with

and without legs (POUF 01, POUF 02, POUF 03 AND POUF 04); one-, two- and

four-seater settees (SOLO, DUO and QUATTRO); and a chaise longue (LOUNGE).

Soft materials and a simple design language are a tried-and-true formula for a

Simple, plain, bold: three words that describe the body language of CLUB, a design

that seems to say: ‘If the basics are right, who needs ornament?’ Made from our

proprietary QM FOAM™, CLUB is happy indoors and out.

After many succesful years, CLUB is now enhanced with a series of new shapes and

solutions. Especially the loose cushions are important additions. The seating cushions

are made of a combination of memory foam and wadding to create extreme softness

and comfort in just a few centimeters of thickness. The back cushions are made of

goose dawn. All loose cushions have removable covers.

The new lateral units come with a straight back on the inside.

Versions with an inclined inside back are available upon request.

The 81.000 SF Disney Store Headquarters by Clive Wilkinson Architects was

a conversion of the historic Royal Laundry Building for The Children’s Place,

to create an open and collaborative work environment for 230 employees.

The existing brick walled structure inspired the creation of brick-like elements

for the interior, which allude to the playful building block habits of children.

A 20-person ‘Block Conference Room’ is formed on two sides by foam block

walls. When the foam modules are disassembled, they become the seating

system for 200-person company meetings.

OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture) commissioned Quinze & Milan to furnish the

Seattle Public Library, a project for which the seating system had to comply with the strict

Kazuka Okamoto creates designs combining fun and function. Fun? A perfect cut out

Dai Ottoman right out the Dai Sofa. Function? Extending the sofa with a table piece

attached to the sofa. Put your laptop on your sofa! Put up your feet on the Ottoman!

in the realization of their ideas, and like to push the boundaries – our own and those of the people

around us. In our cosmos, boundaries exist only to be shifted…

In addition to producing furniture at our in-house factory, we work in close collaboration with

specialized manufacturers that make use of Quinze & Milan’s proprietary equipment when

producing products and designs. In both cases, the result is a quality product that has the added

advantage of flexibility – particularly important when serving clients with special requirements.

ROUNDDESIGN DISSING+WEITLING / 2008

Round was originally designed for the University Library, a part of the Danish Royal

Library, Copenhagen. Round was created to cater for easy socializing in the lounge

areas. By composing the various basic elements it is easy to create a relaxed land-

scape of seating and socializing possibilities. The new humanities faculty library offers

the students a well designed, functional library building designed with singular focus

on creating the optimum facility based on users’ needs.

The architects from Dissing+Weitling’s project group have liaised closely throughout

the entire process with a user group of Royal Library employees.

DYNAMIC EXCITEMENT

Encouraging interaction between employees while communicating the

company’s brand values and identity were the dual aims of the design of

Red Bull’s new 1,860 sqm headquarters. Designed by Jump Studios, the

resulting £2m offices stimulate employees and visitors alike. The stunning

interior generates adrenalin and a sense of dynamic excitement, emotions

associated with the Red Bull brand and its various activities.

M2DESIGN SCOTT WILSON / 2003

Flexible by nature and ideal for large public spaces, the M2 is a modular seating system

designed by Scott Wilson for Quinze & Milan. Three basic units (corner, linear and level

units), each 1m², supported by powder-coated steel frames fit together to form the desired

configuration. Components can be interconnected or can stand alone.

Steal elements are powder-coated in standard grey. Sidetable standard grey or black.

old-fashioned armchair. Familiar and fascinating at the same time, FRAME combines

Its fresh, distinctive look complements any contemporary setting, while blending with

equal ease into a more classic environment. FRAME includes one- and two-seater settees

ANAN, JAPANESE NOODLE BAR

AUTOSTADT / WOLFSBURG / GERMANY

A PIECE OF CONTEMPORARY TOKYO

AnAn is a new Japanese noodle bar designed for Autostadt, Germany, the theme

park and communications platform of the Volkswagen Group. Hosoya Schaefer

Architects won the design competition held by Autostadt GmbH in 2005 and

completed the project in 2007. The task was to build a Japanese noodle bar

that represents on a small area, a piece of contemporary Tokyo. The space is

conceived to be both transparent and filled with a range of different graphics

and sensibilities creating a heterogeneous, urban whole.

from all unneccesary frills, until we were left with nothing but its core, the bones. Given the deconstructed chair and keeping in mind traditional upholstering in leather,

we then started playing – the result being a comfortable chair reflecting a 21st-century interpretation of time-honoured craftmanship.

A strikingly simple framework, created from massive lacquered oak, supports a generous piece of leather skin which is wedged between the back and arm rests.

Each chair is constucted by hand and totally unique, due to the variety in cut-outs of big pieces of leather and the way they are draped around the framework.

The wink to fashion should be obvious, as well as the reasoning behind its name - although apart from leather, there is also the option of

upholstering the chair in the desired colour of Kvadrat® fabric. If desired, up to five layers of (contrasting) leather or fabric can be applied to one chair.

DIE KUNSTBAR

Wooden boxes used in art transport are covering ‘die kunstbar’. What’s behind it,

stays unrevealed. A metaphor for the church not revealing what happens in the

church as its trying to keep hold to its controlling role in society. Those boxes

wrap up art, church wraps up the freedom of the mind. Quinze & Milan furnished

the interior of the 174 sqm large ‘die kunstbar’ with various adaptations of the

Room 26 Seat.

As an ultimate communication tool, an Airbench setting creates a landscape

of human interaction. Available in variable shapes — crosses, rectangles or

meanders — airbenches are multifunctional and modular, offering endless

combination possibilities. Airbenches Small and Large move tortuously in

public spaces. By accident people meet each other as they take place on the

bench and immediately look into the opponents eyes. Airbenches are the ideal

Airbench Double settings by Quinze & Milan for Futurotextiel 08, which not only

introduced visitors to spectacular and advanced textile applications, but also

focus on the importance of research techniques and developments in the textile

industry. The exhibition aims to instil not only a sense of wonder but also some

form of awareness in the visitor. Textile and the innovative technological

applications thereof are the ideal basic ingredients for artists. Companies,

educational establishments and artists joined efforts to structure the content

of the exhibition.

of each other and start communicating out of curiousity. People get interwoven

PENTAGONDESIGN THOMAS TRITSCH / 2007 Don’t think one, think five! In his design Thomas Tritsch underlines the sturdy form of the mathematical figure existing out of five corners. Inspired by medieval fortressess proved well-fortified when built as a pentagon. The result is a broad collection combining different materials: oak wood, qm foam or upholstery in several pieces or in one single piece. Put the modular collection together in multiple variations and discover its numerous possibilties.

Quinze & Milan tackles geometry once again and has furthered its work on forms

and faceting, seeking new effects from the wood and creating a chair whose design

is a combination of the past and future. Using the most classic of materials,

Quinze & Milan has successfully made an object with a symbolic shape in which

the material gains qualities of luminosity.

Quartz is an object of the future that retains the intrinsic value of wood – strong and

hard-wearing, comfortable and basic. “We wanted to give the material a different look

without however ignoring its natural qualities. The facets give a dynamic and vibrant

appeal, while the surface plays with the light, creating a sparkling effect. Just like quartz.”

The MAZE collection was born in our studio, but its genes are of the East – MAZE means

table in Hindi. Viewed from above, it’s almost as if you’re looking through the mesh of a net.

There’s something mysterious about it; it looks different depending on the angle you view it

from. Although small in size, the MAZE SIDE TABLE enchants everyone with its suggestion

of transparency. Its common sense lies in its flexibility: place it inside, in the living room or

in the bathroom, or outside, in the garden – with its plastic body, MAZE SIDE TABLE fits in

JELLYFISHDESIGN WIEL ARETS / 2006

A relaxing chair that encourages active use is JELLYFISH, a seat for lounging, for listening

to music, for having a bite to eat, for talking with friends. The dynamic JELLYFISH is a

modern rocking chair. Owing to the rounded form of the base, the chair moves slightly.

It’s a seat that ruffles the feathers, so to speak, but in a positive way.

The standard JELLYFISH HOUSE collection is produced in sturdy rotation moulded

PE which is extremely well suited for outdoor use, the same frame is used as the base

for an upholstered edition (leather and Divina by Kvadrat®), therefore few of these chairs

have the same outward appearance. The colours are UV stable.

HONEYCOMBDESIGN CLIVE WILKINSON + INTELLIGENT DESIGN / 2007

Honeycombs one of the oldest architectural concepts known, inspired this design

of a flexible shelving system. Of course we had to call it HONEYCOMB. The individual

units are made from rotation-molded thin walled polyethylene resulting in an exceptional

transparency and rigidity. A straightforward riveting system allows for an efficient and

reversible installation with unlimited and flexible compositions.

HONEYCOMB ensures an enhanced structural capacity that allows stacking up to

7 meters in two directions and even allow the removal of units within a built wall to

create ‘windows’. So keep your things in place, your peeping neighbors out or your

friends in and make your own humming environment…

BAG STOOLDESIGN GITTA GSCHWENDTNER / 2009 Referencing material consumption, Gitta Gschwendtner has created concrete and woodcrete stools cast from moulds based on paper shopping bags. Their individual, irregular form is created during the casting process. This playful design looks like it’s popping up right from the ground. Gschwendtner poses people consume too much today and she wants to turn around the process just like she turns up side down the shopping bag into a sitting element.

The concrete version is suited for outdoor use and the woodcrete version for indoor use. This second is a lighter version made up from a mixture of concrete and wood fibres which makes it lighter and more environmentally friendly.

At the same time, children specific furniture is announced: High Chair, Play tent,

RUN, PLAY, HIDE AND SEEK

LITTLE MISS ODESIGN CONCRETE AMSTERDAM / 2009

When UN Studio asked them to design certain areas for their major project, the

Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, CONCRETE AMSTERDAM based all

its designwork, down to the very detail on the specific identity of the owner. Their aim

was to create identity within a total space experience: create individual worlds where

a single visitor identifies with and which invites him to stay. The dishes, table linen

and silverware in the restaurant as well as the division of the spaces are all in a way

renditions of the three-pointed Mercedes Benz logo. LITTLE MISS O, which is placed

in the children island, is a result from that research and provides an ideal playground

where to nurse children and play with them.

Scott Wilson

Scott Wilson is founder of MINIMAL, a multidisciplinary

design studio. He’s an accomplished designer experienced

in developing iconic, industry-leading products.

His alternating experience within three consulting firms

and four global corporations has provided him with the

skills necessary to navigate through companies and

industries consistently delivering compelling consumer

concepts to market.

Jürgen Mayer H.

Founded in 1996 in Berlin, Germany, J. MAYER H Architects’

studio focuses on works at the intersection of architecture,

communication and new technology. From urban planning

schemes and buildings to installation work and objects with

new materials, the relationship between the human body,

technology and nature form the background for a new

production of space. Jürgen Mayer H. is the founder and

principal of this crossdisciplinairy studio. He studied at

Stuttgart University, The Cooper Union and Princeton

Universtiy. His work has been published and exhibited

world-wide and is part of numerous collections including

MoMA New York and SF MoMA.

Wiel Arets

Wiel Arets investigates and produces space in response

to life, the potential of function, the character of place

and the nature of material. As well as bespoke architecture

and urbanism on every scale, the studio develops products for

mass production in collaboration with leading manufacturers.

Concrete Amsterdam

Concrete hosts different disciplines such as product and

interior designers, architects, visual marketeers and now

an urban planning/architectural firm too. Concrete’s

deliberate choice of breaking away from traditional

hierarchies and the dominant forces which dictate the

design process today, gives our agency unprecedented

freedom. Concrete’s designers want to be inspired not just

by modern art but by comics too, by ideas from the world

of architecture and multimedia, by haute cuisine and the

snack bar. They appear contradictory, but, in this collision,

the perfect expression of our post-modern age can be found.

Gitta Gschwendtner

Born in Germany in 1972, Gitta Gschwendtner moved to

London in the early nineties to study design at Central Saint

Martins, Kingston University and the Royal College of Art.

Following graduation from the RCA furniture MA in 1998

she set up her independent design studio for furniture,

interior design, exhibition design and public art projects for

cultural, arts and corporate clients. Gitta Gschwendtner’s

studio focuses on conceptually rigorous, visually intriguing,

functional designs across several disciplines.

Clive Wilkinson + Intelligent Design

Clive Wilkinson founded Clive Wilkinson Architects in

Los Angeles in 1991. He was educated as an architect

at the University of Cape Town in South Africa and at the

Architectural Association in London. His background

includes extensive experience with the design of cutting

edge commercial and institutional projects, ranging from

large scale new construction in Britain to the interior

architecture of some of the world’s most creative and

leading edge companies. Honeycomb for Quinze & Milan

was conceived in collaboration with Intelligent Design in

Portland, USA.

Thomas Tritsch

Thomas Tritsch founded the design and furniture brand

MORGEN in 1997 together with Sabine Mühlauer. He studied

art and made his master in environmental installations.

When creating spaces like the COCOON VIP LOUNGE, a

hotelsuite for Juan Amador, offices for Sven Väth, Bread

and Butter or Red Bull his mainly influenced by this artistic

view. One of his favorite credos is forming things as simple

as possible and creating spaces packed and stuffed with

electrifying excitement.

Kazuko Okamoto

Kazuko Okamoto’s —born in Chiba, Japan but currently

living in Milan — interests lie in furniture and productdesign.

In the past she has made tables, shelves and chairs but

also cups and plates. Foam and oak wood are her favorite

materials to create furniture as the first has the most

flexible form you can play with and the second is all about

nature. After working in a company she stepped in the world

of freelancers, exactly what Quinze & Milan was looking for.

Marc Thorpe

Since the establishment of Marc Thorpe’s studio in 2005

he has been working in New York producing residential

and commercial architectural projects as well as an

extensive body of work in the field of furniture design.

Thorpe’s work can be defined as routed in function with

a sensibility to character through detail. As a young

practicing architect in New York City, he carries over his

training to furniture design by exploring the impact a given

program has on a products form in relation to its perfor-

mance. This pluralistic approach to design gives Thorpe’s

work relevance and inherent meaning.

Hosoya Schaefer Architects

Hosoya Schaefer is a Zürich based studio for architectural

designs, strategies and research. It was founded by Markus

Schaefer and Hiromi Hosoya in 2003. With an international

network of collaborators, the studio is involved in building

design and realization, media installations, strategic

planning and consulting. Past teaching engagements link

the studio to the Department of Architecture at Cornell

University in Ithaka, NY and the Berlage Institute in

Rotterdam.

Büro Wehberg

Büro Wehberg is a Hamburg based studio for design and art,

founded by Max Wehberg in 1999. Their multi-disciplinary

projects range from artistic project development, realization

and consulting for commercial clients, production of design

products to stage design and artworks. “We see Quinze &

Milan as a furniture label with a lot of possibilities and a

continuation of the DNA of our company. We make it happen

for designers and architects and we love to work with a lot

of different people.”

Dissing + Weitling

Dissing+Weitling’s goal is to create optimal spaces

for human activity – at work, in the home and in the public

sphere. They have a clear and accommodating approach,

characterized by user-centric solutions that pay particular

attention to the physical, cultural and environmental context

of each project. D+W was formed in 1971 to continue the

work started by Arne Jacobsen. Since then, the company

has refined and developed this Scandinavian design tradition

with works that have set new standards in both design and

architecture.

KiBiSi

Founded by Kilo Design (Lars Holme Larsen), BIG,

(Bjarke Ingels) and Skibsted Ideation (Jens Martin Skibsted),

KiBiSi is a Copenhagen based idea-driven industrial design

firm. Each partner contributes with intelligence and

experience from within his specific field providing KiBiSi

with cutting edge knowledge and knowhow within the fields

of architecture, design, furniture, electronics, transport,

contemporary culture and lifestyle.

“We believe the product should be the carrier of its brand

idea rather than some designer’s form and formula. In the

fertile overlap between Design, Architecture and Ideation we

seek to spawn a new breed of idea driven design.”

Søren Rose

Artist, designer, merchant, entrepreneur with a highly

developed sense of quality, craftsmanship and a global

outlook of the things that will live past our time.

That, together with a healthy dose of humor and a tongue-

in-cheek approach to life in general, is the DNA of Søren

Rose. It is also the essence of Søren Rose Studio.

Jakob + MacFarlane

Jakob+MacFarlane is an architectural firm based in Paris,

founded by Brendan MacFarlane and Dominique Jakob.

Its work explores digital technology both as a conceptual

consideration and as a means of fabrication, using new

materials as a possibility to create a more flexible,

responsive and immediate environment.

zhili Liu

Zhili Liu was born in Chengdu (Szechwan, China) in 1979.

In 2005, he started working for NHDRO/Design Republic

in Shanghai as a furniture and product designer. In 2009,

Zhili Liu was appointed senior designer at Shang-xia,

a new luxury goods brand founded by Hermes.

He’s planning to set up his own studio in 2010.
