About our productsAll soft toys are tested according to EU (EN-71 1,2,3) Standards. These tests ensure that our products are designed and manufactured in a way that makes them completely safe for little children. All fabrics are new and Azo free. See page 51 for more information about our tests and fabrics used.

We are delighted to show you our new catalogue for Spring 2016, full of fresh and original new products. As always, they have been designed and produced with love and care.Our famous felt masks and party flags have had a crisp make-

over and we welcome four new-born animals to our knitted collection: Giraffe Spaceman, Panda Fu, Tiger Bill and… Zebra Raf has become the proud brother of sister Zena!

In the centre of Amsterdam, Annette, together with a small team, lovingly works on the Global Affairs collection.

Global Affairs tries to brighten kids’ worlds and this can be seen in our products. All our products are soft, colourful and completely safe to snuggle, play or sleep with. The bright and the colourful living accessories complete this collection.

Our selected suppliersOur suppliers are based in China, India and Peru and most of our products are handmade. We only work with small producers whom we strive to do fair business with. We visit our producers on a regular basis in order to build a strong working relationship; based on dialogue, transparency and mutual respect. As a result, we have established long-term relationships with our most valuable suppliers (i.e. 10 years).

Many of the companies we work with are led by women and most of the employees are also women. This leads to independence, which is essential in all countries, but especially in China and India.Our suppliers are based in rural areas, which means the workers do not have to migrate to big cities for employment. They can care for their families and they do not have to work unfairly long hours or travel long distances.

Many of the employees are farmers and they work at the farm during the harvest season and work for our suppliers the rest of the year. This provides them with year-round income to support themselves and their families.

Of course, we always consider the safety and convenience of the workers. All of our suppliers meet the standards for a safe working place. Some have passed the BSCI audits, and others are in progress in obtaining this certificate. Furthermore, we try to make sure that the work environment of the workers coincides with their own culture. We think it is very important to respect other norms and beliefs and not impose our own Western culture.

Our productsShades and colours can change from batch to batch because most of our products are handmade. However, this always stays within our margins and a product will never leave the workplace without our approval. The only thing that doesn’t change is the safety of all our toys, which meet the very highest security standards: EN71 1-3, CE. All our products for children are tested according to EN71-1/3 standards, meaning all our toys are safe for babies, unless stated differently. All the testing documents are filed in our Amsterdam office.

Working in developing countries and with small scale factories is a big but also very rewarding challenge, as every day is exciting and informative. The Global Affairs products come from constant communication and learning from one another. Annette Klein BogFounder and multi-tasker

About 20 years ago, Annette was a regular traveller to India and China and enjoyed it very much. Her love for these countries and the bright & vibrant colours used by their craftsmen inspired her to start Global Affairs. An engaged entrepreneur, she is always curious and interested in history, new initiatives, stories, food and more. Everything inspires her, even the small things in life and she is the engine behind Global Affairs.

Nowadays , Global Affairs develops and produces colourful interior accessories and children’s’ toys. Designs are created in the Amsterdam office and sent abroad for production.

Ilanit Schoon - WellingAccount- & optimistic projectmanager

You will often see Ilanit at trade fairs, especially in Germany as she loves to speak German. She answers all customers’ questions with a big smile and takes care of their orders. She is always thinking of new concepts for custom made items for museums, shops, events and more. As a true “Amsterdammer” she considers Artis (Amsterdam Zoo) an extension of her back garden and she cycles everywhere on her bike, with a big basket on the front.

Marije CouprieStylist and ‘the rock’ of Global Affairs

The creative of the team, Marije is always searching for new product ideas. She is also the stylist of our trade fair booths and catalogues. Inspired by the simple things in life, she always manages to turn nothing into something special.

Marina FerranteOffice manager and language wonder

Marina has recently joined our team. She keeps calm in busy times and brings order and structure to our sometimes hectic office. She travels from the countryside to Amsterdam every morning by bus and bike and speaks fluent Dutch, German, French and Italian, so feel free to contact her by phone.
