NEW PRODUCTS AND POLICY CHANGES

EXTENDED BACKFILE PROGRAM CONTINUES –ACCESS BACK TO 2010As a reminder, OSA Publishing’s individual-title subscription pricing includes access to newly published articles in 2020 plus complimentary access to a portion of the backfile. In 2020, the complimentary access will include content back to 2010. In addition, OSA Publishing is launching an online-only plus extended backfile product for Advances in Optics and Photonics (AOP) that will cover content from 2009 to 2020.

Subscribers have a few different options for accessing con-tent prior to 2010. They can pay a minimal additional fee for our “leased extended backfile,” which enables their patrons to access all published content related to an individual title. Alternatively, subscribers purchasing one or more individual titles can upgrade to one of OSA Publishing’s package prod-ucts and receive complimentary access to the entire backfile for that package, or they can acquire one of our Digital Archive products. See pages 17–18 for details.

NEW: INDIVIDUAL TITLE DIGITAL ARCHIVESStarting 1 January 2020, OSA Publishing will offer new indi-vidual Journal Digital Archives for our core journals: Applied Optics, the Journal of the Optical Society of America A, the Jour-nal of the Optical Society of America B, and Optics Letters. These new individual title digital archive products, entitled “(Jour-nal Name) Digital Archive 2,” will provide perpetual access to PDFs for each Journal’s content published between 2007 and 2011. Further, these new products complement each Journal’s Digital Archive product. As a reminder, the Digital Archive 1 product for each individual title provides access to all content from the first issue published to 2006. See Page 18 for more details.

REDUCTION IN CC BY FEE FOR GOLD OPEN ACCESS ARTICLESOSA Publishing is a long-time advocate of open science, with our first Gold Open Access journal, Optics Express, pub-lishing its first issue in 1997. As the open science landscape evolved, our publishing program did too. Not only did we launch several new Gold Open Access journals, but we also started offering a CC BY license option to authors whose funders require it as condition of their grant. In 2020, we are reducing our CC BY fee by 50% as another way of supporting our authors and the open science movement.
