POSSIBLE USES

• Producing simple raised-line graphics (e.g., geometric shapes, maps, graphs, etc.).

• Demonstrating math and science concepts.

Page 3: Catalog No. 1-08857-00. POSSIBLE USES Producing simple raised-line graphics (e.g., geometric shapes, maps, graphs, etc.). Demonstrating math and science

POSSIBLE USES (continued)•Practicing handwriting skills.

•Facilitating tracing tasks (e.g., tracing within a cut-out shape/template or around an object).

POSSIBLE USES (continued)

• Playing games (e.g., Tic-Tac-Toe)

• Creating art drawings.

• And much more—you decide!

STEP 1: Open the right and left hinged wings of the DRAFTSMAN Tactile Drawing Board.

STEP 2: Center one sheet of Tactile Drawing Film on the padded surface. If needed, flip the drawing film to the side of the sheet that lies flattest on the drawing surface.

STEP 3: Close both wings, one at a time, to lock and secure the film on the drawing surface.

STEP 4: Draw directly on the film using a ballpoint pen or stylus and feel the image raise instantly!

EASY TO USE

TIPS and TRICKS Apply slow and steady pressure as you draw a

line or figure with a ballpoint pen or stylus onto the drawing film. The more pressure applied while drawing, the higher the line produced.

TIPS and TRICKS The included two-sided tactile drawing stylus

will allow you to produce a thick solid line and a thin solid line, depending upon which end of the tool is used. Try to maximize tactile contrast of lines that intersect each other within a graphic display.

TIPS and TRICKS The Tactile Drawing Film can be inserted

into a braillewriter if text/labels are needed within a drawing. It is best to plot and apply the braille before drawing the graphic.

Line-drawing tools from APH’s Tactile Graphics Kit [Catalog No. 1-08851-00] can be used to create additional lines such as low-dotted line paths and double-dotted line paths. When using these tools, draw on the reverse side of the drawing film or drawn image.

TIPS and TRICKS Facilitate measuring tasks by using the

provided tactile ruler that slides within the vertical and horizontal grooves of the frame. One side of the ruler has tactile markings for every inch, half inch, and quarter inch; the other side of the ruler has a saw-toothed edge that indicates every quarter inch and every sixteenth inch (as indicated by a groove).

TIPS and TRICKS Trace important features of an original printed

diagram onto the drawing film using a marker or pen. Then, lock the drawing film into place on the DRAFTSMAN Tactile Drawing Board and re-trace the image with a pen or stylus to raise the image. Remember that in most cases a good tactile graphic is not a complete duplicate of the print original; trace only necessary features of a diagram, graph, etc., re-sizing where needed to accommodate braille text and labels.
