About Club

History of Haifa photo club "Tsafon" began in the last millennium. Club was founded in 1995 by two enthusiasts of photography - Zinovy Shegelman and Jacob Khavin. Zinovy Shegelman, unfortunately, is no longer with us, and Yakov Khavin still regularly helps us by his analysis and tips.The basic form of the club – regular meetings in the evenings, twice in a month, when we discuss everything related to photography. We keep organising personal presentations, competitions, exhibitions and once a year – Club exhibitions with best works of our members. The photoclub maintains contacts with photoclubs of Jerusalem, Be'er Sheva, Ashdod, Rishon Lezion, Tel Aviv, Netanya, Afula. In addition, there is a good tradition to visit photo-exhibitions in the new museum of Tel Hai. Periodically we organize club sessions in open air followed by a discussion of the results.Photoclub is an associated member of Israel Photographic Art Society (IPAS).Club is open for newcomers – if you are not indifferent to the beauty around and want to share it with others – you are wellcome!

1Founder of the club

Zinovy Shegelman

Zinovy Shegelman was born in 1940 in Bobruisk (Belarus). Began photographing at age 17.While studing in the Leningrad Medical Institute, Zinovy at the same time studied in the photography school. Upon graduation, Zinovy Shegelman worked for 25 years as pediatric surgeon in Mogilev.Besides his main job he took part in organising local and international exhibitions of photography, and was the leading figure in the art photography in Belarus.In 1988, Zinovy Shegelmanu was awarded "Artist of the International Association of Photographers' AFIAP", and in the 90's received the highest rank of the International Association of Photographers – EFIAP.In 1990, Zinovy immigrated to Israel. He worked in Haifa "Bnei Zion" hospital, as medical photographer. Thanks to his energy club movement in Israel was reborn. He took part in more than 1000 exhibitions and competitions, many personal exhibitions and got more than 60 gold and silver awards at prestigious salons ...In 1995, Zinovy Shegelman with Jacob Khavin founded in Haifa amateurs photo-club "Tsafon".Zinovy Shegelman died in 1999, not long before his 60-ty.
