Each mixture is evaluated to ensure the flammableconcentrationiswellbelow theflammablelimits.Praxairwillde- termineifthemixturemustbemade at reduced pressure. Final mixture pressuresarebasedonBTU calculations. </p><p> Vapor Pressure Restrictions Mixtures containing low vapor pressure components are generally made at reduced pressures. </p><p> Pressure reduction helps prevent condensation of less volatile component and ensures mixture homogeneity. Computer modeling is used to generate phase envelopes for mixture evaluation and determi nation of appropriate pressures. </p><p> Whereapplicable,Praxairwill recommendlow-pressurecontainers to maximize the volume of contents. RefertopageB4fordetails.</p><p> Reactive Gas Mixtures Mixturestabilityisassessedtomake sure the requested components do not react with each other or with the cylinder. Primary consideration is given to safety and the potential by-productscreatedbyachemical </p><p> reaction.Integrityofanalyticalaccu- racyisalsoevaluated.Afeasibility review is peformed prior to mixture preparation. </p><p> Whereapplicable,Praxairwillprovide aluminum or specially treated cylinders for low concentration reactive gas mixtures.SeeSectionBfordetailson aluminum(pageB3)cylinders.</p><p> Thestabilityofcertaingasmixtures canbeaffectedbythelengthoftime theyarestored,aswellasthestorage temperature.Toensuretheintegrity ofgasmixtures,storagetimeand temperatureforsusceptiblemixtures shouldbemonitored.</p><p> Mixture Grades and Specifications</p><p>Praxair mixtures are grouped into two basic categories, environmental and standard. Please refer to the table on page D1 for complete specifications of all available grades.</p><p>Environmental Gradeshavebeen developed to meet the stringent require-mentsofspecificenvironmentalappli- cationssuchasEPAProtocols,I&amp;M(InspectionandMaintenance)emissionstandards,andmixturesrequiringNISTTraceability.Inallcases,specificationshavebeendevelopedtomeetindustrystandardsor,insomecases,tomeetregulatory requirements. </p><p>WhenEPAProtocolsarenotnecessary,butNISTtraceabilityisdesired,Praxairsmaster grades provide the highest degree ofaccuracyandconfidenceforyourmostdemandingapplications.Thesemixturesarepreparedgravimetricallyonhigh- precisions,electronicbalancesorwithstate-of-the-artdynamicblenders. </p><p>Theaccuracyfromthesemethodsgenerally exceed the accuracy of most analytical instruments. Praxair produces three grades within the Master category; Primary,Certified,andDynamic-Blend.Theminorcomponent(s)areanalyzedandcertifiedbyPraxairandaretraceable toNISTreferencematerial.</p><p>Forgeneralpurposes,Praxairsstandard gradesareavailableasPrimaryand Certified.Theseanalyzedstandardsaretypicallyusedforhighvolumeapplica-tionswheretheblendingprecisionand accuracy of the Master grade is not required. Standard grade mixtures are preparedusinggravimetric,volumetric, or partial pressure methods.
