Car Barn MuseumGrand Opening

Te Nelson Electric ramway Society(NES) are ready to offi cially open theiratest project, the Car Barn Museum. On

Monday, August 3 they are inviting theentire community to come on down from11 am to 4:30 pm with free streetcar ridesand museum admission. At 1 pm there willbe a special Grand Opening Ceremony with

ribbon cutting, tours, cake, refreshments,classic cars and special guests.

NES have been working toward thisgoal ever since they rolled out Streetcar #23n 1992. Te idea was to create a working

museum of Nelson’s history. Te rst phaseof this project was to get Nelson’s originalstreetcar operational and then over time create additionalopportunities to enrich and educate the community. Tegoal of NES recent history was to create a dedicatedspace for displays and historical artifacts. Over the past

two years the Car Barn, with the help and love of volun-teers, has been renovated to include a dedicated museumspace and displays throughout the barn.

Over the years, many artifacts and photos have beenentrusted to the society by community members whowished to keep Nelson’s streetcar heritage alive for futuregenerations. Te museum project has given the society anopportunity to present these items to the public. Te arti-facts are now housed in a dedicated museum space withadditional equipment displayed throughout the car barn.

“Te Car Barn Museum will have many benets for thecommunity, from keeping our history fresh and acces-sible to tourists and students, to giving retired people anopportunity to still be engaged with the community,” saysJim Robertson NES B.O.D./project manager. “Te bestthing about this project is that it will always be growingand developing. We are looking forward to helping keepNelson’s history alive.”

Last spring, Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundationocused their undraising efforts on a vital piece o equip-ment or the operating room (OR) – a new surgical table.CIBC had already made a generous donation to the cam-paign when they learned that the oundation was just shy$2040 o their $40,000 goal. o help complete the cam-paign, CIBC generously contributed the additional unds

to assist with purchasing the vital piece o equipment.

Steve was a life-long Nelson resident and general guy about town. Heenjoyed time with friends, had a ready laugh and was willing to share it.Cremation has taken place. The family will host a celebration of lifewith place and time to be announced.
