Annual part volume requirement: 350 pieces needed for a one time project. Background: Originally produced/machined from stainless Steel Problem: Specifications required parts to operate for 100 years with minimal service. Stainless Steel parts required maintenance and were very difficult to handle because they weighed over 500 pounds. Solution: Low cost tooling enables 350 pieces to be cast more economically then they could be machined. Using custom casting, these two piece assemblies could be produced with fast turn- around times and require minimal finish machining. The parts could not be injection molded because of their large size. The Nylatron custom cast nylon parts are corrosion and impact resistant and weight in at approximately 70 pounds. Nylatron is the brand name for nylon plastics that are commonly filled with a substance called molybdenum disulfide lubricant powder. This material is used in a vast array of mechanical applications because og it resistance to wear and load capabilities.
