Background

MuscatInternationalAirportisthelargestairportinOmanandthemainhubofthenationalcarrier

OmanAir.Situated32kmfromMuscat,theairportcarriesmorethan6.5millionpassengersevery

year.Thenewterminalwillhavecapacityof12millionpassengersayear.Thenewpierprovidesan

additional17,000sq.mofpassengercirculationandretailspaceacrosstwolevels.ThePierfeatures

Scope

With increasing traffic and the requirement for aesthetic interiors, consultant required tiles that

wouldactasacontrasttotheexistingthemelightinganddecorsintheterminalarea.Therichand

boldcolouredtexturesofNewportandSlateporcelaintilesprovidedapleasingeffecttothearriving

passengers.ThecombinationofdarkrusticfinishofSlateandsleektrendymoodsofNewportseries

flooring reflectanelegant lookwitha touchofwarmth towelcome travellerat the territory.The

highbreakingstrengthandmodulusofraptureofthesemodelshaveabilitytowithstandbothfoot

andtrolleytrafficwhilegivingeccentricornamentationtotheplace.

Results

Theairportexpansionplanhad to reflect the internationalappealofbusyairportsworldwideand

accordinglydesignerhadtoeffectsuchagrowth.Althoughbelievedtoberichintraditionalvalues,

onewouldbeabletofeelthepotentialenergyvibesintheairofOmanwhilewalkingintheairport

lobbyandterminalareawithRAKCeramicsproduct.
