As a charitable organization, you can create one or more lists of items you need. You can add almost any item sold at Amazon.com, select the quantity needed, and specify a different shipping address for each list you create. You also get reporting showing what items have been ordered from your Charity List.

Customers feel good knowing that Charity Lists are only created by verified, legitimate charities, and that it’s really easy to donate items that have been requested directly from their favorite charities.

How is Purrfect Pals Driving Donations Using AmazonSmile Charity Lists?In Aug 2018 and Jan 2019, Purrfect Pals sent an email to their supporters and posted a request for donations on their Facebook account. They also have a tile promoting their Charity List on their homepage, and a page dedicated to their Charity List in their “Ways to Give” section on their website. For both the Aug and Jan campaigns, within two days of sending the email and posting on Facebook, customers placed over 300 orders worth over $20,000 for Purrfect Pals. Since August 2018, customers have donated over $60,000 worth of products to Purrfect Pals through their AmazonSmile Charity Lists!

Who is Purrfect Pals?Purrfect Pals is a cat shelter located in Arlington, WA. They have a shelter with room for up to 225 cats, as well as a veterinary clinic. They have a team of 22 full-time employees and around 400 volunteers. They offer a variety of services including free spaying and neutering of cats, a cat food bank, care of cats from individuals and other shelters that can no longer care for them, and cat adoption services. Best Practices for Charity Lists• Add between 10 and 100 items to your Charity List with a range of price points.

• Be specific about your needs and how you’re going to use the items by adding item comments. Purrfect Pals stressed the urgency of the request and included compelling imagery. This is a great opportunity to remind your supporters about the important work you’re doing.

• Close the loop and thank your supporters. Purrfect Pals posted a thank-you message shortly after their original post, and then posted a picture of all the donations they received.

• Actively promote your Charity List using multiple marketing channels. Purrfect Pals used social media, email, and their website to spread the word about their Charity List. Just including your Charity List in the “Other Ways to Give” section on your website is generally not enough to get customers to donate. They need to be actively reminded through email and social media.

• Remind your supporters frequently. Purrfect Pals sent requests via email and social media in Aug 2018 and Jan 2019, and received over $20,000 worth of products each time.
