Nafta Geoterm (NG) Profile

• NG is a daughter company of Nafta Lendava, with extensive experience in exploration of underground resources since 1945;

• Located in north-eastern Slovenia rich with geothermal energy potential

• A key player for the further development of geothermal field in this part of central & eastern Europe

NG strategic activities

• Increasing the proportion of production and use of environment-friendly geothermal energy with:– direct use of geothermal water and– increasing the efficiency with Heat Pumps

• Providing Turn-key solutions on the field of geothermal energy exploration and its utilization

• The future built on – Exploring– Developing– Deploying

Bringing clean energy to your house!

Development in Slovenia

• A lot of potential for direct use, especially north-eastern part of Slovenia – 45 MWt installed at 27 locations

• GSHP installed – 2,33 MWt• GHP installed – 3,94 MWt• Geothermal system utilization increased

substantially in last three years (no official data available yet)

Source: Proceedings World Geothermal Congress 2005

• Utilization not optimal with regards to the potential available!

Facts and figures

• Fully automated system • Thermomineral water temperature: 67ºC• Flow rate: 90 m3/h• Heat exchangers:

• 1x 2,70 MWt • 1x 0,45 MWt• 1x 0,17 MWt

• Gas boilers for backup & peak loads: 2 x 1,320 MWt• Price of geothermal energy lower than conventional

Unexploited potential

• System based on district heating with high peak loads

• Energy potential not used in summer periods

• Wasted water temperature: up to 40ºC

• With the use of special high temperature GHP the installed power could be doubled!

OPTIMIZATION NEEDED!

HTH pump project

• EUREKA project

• Goal: to develop a high power (over 250kW) high temperature (up to 80ºC) GHP for exploitation of low temperature (up to 40ºC) geothermal sources

• Increasing the overall efficiency of geothermal systems

• Enable faster deployment of applications like (district heating, greenhouses, …)

• Development of geothermal systems in the areas with lower gradient

HTH pump project

• Input temperature: up to 40ºC• High COP• Output temperature: up to 80ºC

• Additional 2,5 MW in geothermal city Lendava

• Very high utilitzation potential
