Case report: DermaClose closes 18 x 8 cm wound resulting from ORIF of femur and compartment syndrome Courtney Amor, MD. Memorial Hermann Southwest. Houston, Texas. Case Report #43 Prior to application of DermaClose: A 26-year-old male patient fell off of a second story ladder, resulting in a fracture of his left femur and compartment syndrome. Prior to application of DermaClose the wound was debrided, open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) was performed and negative pressure therapy was applied. At that time the size of the wound measured 18 cm x 8 cm. DermaClose applied: Immediately after application of the DermaClose External Tissue Expander the wound measured 17 cm x 6 cm. Removal of DermaClose: 6 days post-operatively the wound edges approximated enough to allow for direct primary closure with minimal tension on the wound edges. NPWT using an incisional wound vac was continued for one additional week. Follow-up: Removal of staples and sutures occurred 2 weeks post-op. Healing was uneventful.
