e objective: Create a next-generation over-the-ad tractor with the best cost/performance ratiothe marketplace. Not just for today, but for theeseeable future.

e Cascadia started with a clean sheet of paper andopen mind. Freightliner spent millions of dol-

s to benchmark the competition by tearing downd conducting extensive analysis on our trucks andmpetitor trucks. The findings yielded strengths andaknesses, and identified best practices that couldapplied to the Cascadia. Scores of customers andvers throughout North America participated in its development, lending theirique insights and real-world knowledge to the process. Then engineers with

decades of experience, aided by state-of-the-art design and simulation tools, refined the Cascadia until they got it just right.

The result is an aggressively con-fident step in the direction yourealready moving: forward.

The Cascadia began life as one of the most thoroughly testedFreightliner trucks ever, ensuring its productivity, safety, durability and lasting comfort.

Months in Freightliners proprietary, state-of-the-art windtunnel helped define an impressive efficiency story. The firstof its kind, full-scale facility helped refine and validate theCascadias superior aerodynamics. Then thousands of mileslogged under actual operating conditions reinforced its fuel-squeezing bottom-line benefits.

Pushing the envelope into uncharted territory.

    Original thinking behindvery advance.

Engineers employed advanced computer-aided design tools, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and other simulationtechniques to develop, analyze and refine the Cascadias design. The most promising results were tested at full-scale in Freightlinersstate-of-the-art wind tunnel for verification.

b and major components withstood grueling performancets simulating millions of miles under the absolute worstnditions you can throw at a truck. The Cascadia is advancedd tremendously strong. In fact, the cab design exceededery U.S. and European crashworthiness standard.

he entire HVAC system was tested again and again ineightliners climate control chamber at severe temperatures,d then on the road under tough summer and winterving conditions. The resulting design guarantees precisionrformance and comfort.

Freightliner trucks are built to go the distance. From order sheet to finalinspection, the Cascadia endures a manufacturing process of rigorous andexacting standards.

Leading-edge automation and quality testing merge with a passion forcraftsmanship in Freightliners production system to produce superiorvehicles you can put to work immediately and with confidence.Manufacturing the Cascadia entails over 70 robots that guaranteereproducible quality and reliability.

Driver safety was a top priorityin the Cascadias development, resulting in a cab design sorigid and strong it meets orexceeds stringent Swedish andEuropean ECE R-29 crash testrequirements .

Ergonomic, robust door handles have endured their share of pun-ishment, as well.

A shape so refined it will redefine your future.

The most aerodynamic Freightliner ever , the Cascadia helps you put a lot more distance between fuel stops.

Pedestal-mounted, lightweight aero mirrors are exceptionallyminimum vibration. Hood mounted mirrors were included in the design to maximize the viewable blind spot area. These mirrors ressecure, built-in hood support placed forward to reduce splash from road In designing the mirror mounting, over 100 different positions were testdefine the optimum viewing of the rear, and minimization of blind spots The Cascadias large but lightweight cab features

aluminum sidewalls that are stamped and roundedwith a tumblehomedesign to create a stiffer struc-ture devoid of buzz, squeak and rattle.

Unique, shorter side extenders with breakaway sections anslightly to optimize aerodynamics and increase maneuverability.

The curved three-piece bumper is aerodynamic and lightweight toreduce fuel costs. If the bumper is damaged, only the damaged sectionneeds to be replaced, reducing repair time and costs.

nlike so many aeroconventionals on the market today, the Cascadianot just an enhancement of an existing model. Its a smarter solutionapped in a bold and beautiful aerodynamic envelope that will have youting the pace for years to come.

om bumper to back-of-cab, the Cascadias gracefulnd-swept lines produce the lowest coefficient of ag of any Freightliner ever conceived, more likeports car than a long-distance highway hauler.

he lightweight yet strong aerodynamic bumperects airflow smoothly into the radiator, around tires and under the chassis to reduce turbulence.

A large, laid-back grille optimizes cooling efficiency as it guides air alongthe low, sloped hood, sleek fenders and curved windshield, onward overthe truck and trailer. Unique, shorter side extenders are angled outward

slightly to preserve aerodynamic performance andincrease maneuverability. Lexan covered headlights,pedestal-mounted aero mirrors and optional full-length chassis fairings complete the package.

The practical benefit of such an intelligent andaesthetic design is industry-leading fuel economy.

ading-edge aerodynamic design is only part of the Cascadias Run Smartuation. Built-in capability, productivity and reliability are also factors youllme to appreciate.

en with its wider, taller cab, the Cascadia remains one of the lightest linehaulctors on the market, ensuring maximum payload capacity. Responsive rackd pinion steering, a wheel cut of up to 50 degrees, and exceptional visibilityoduce a highly maneuverable truck that is easier to drive.

d ride? Th e Cascadia will have drivers yearning for the road. An advancednt and rear cab mounting system reduces roll, vibration, noise and

companying fatigue while it enhances feel. Freightliner front and rear

suspensions elevate driving comfort to levels usually found onlyin fine automobiles.

Engine options with ratings from 350 to 550 horsepower include the mostadvanced, efficient diesel engines available from Detroit Diesel, Mercedes-Benz and Caterpillar. The Cascadia comes standard with a large 1,625square-inch radiator and features a 1,755 square-inch option for coolingbig-bore engines.

Best of all, the Cascadia is a truck you can count on, engineered and manufac-tured to log maximum revenue miles with round-the-clock reliability.

Sure-footed agility and ahealthy appetite for payload.

Rack and pinion steering , a Freightliner innovation in heavy duty trucks, is available on theCascadia. Through design research and development, our engineers developed a steering system

thats more responsive and provides tighter control. Rack and pinion steering is much moreprecise than integral gear systems, and because it utilizes a reduced number of parts and pivotpoints, it offers more accurately controlled wheel direction, reducing driver fatigue and boostingdriver comfort.

The benefits of smarter electronics.System Activation Modules (SAM)

The Cascadias smart electrical design features systemactivation modules (SAM) that allow you to specify manythings about how your trucks run on the job.

With SAM, you can request that certain parameters be setfor different operating conditions. For example, a fleet thatwants the brake lights illuminated whenever the enginebrake is activated can do so by having this parameter set.

SAM can also make sure that your lights always go onalong with your wipers to address visibility concerns.Heated mirrors can turn on automatically when a presetoutside temperature is designated, or automatic doorlocks can engage at a certain speed. With traditional wir-ing systems, these functions would have to be specificallyhard-wired to operate this way. SAM is dedicated to in-creasing the options available to fleets and substantiallyreducing the cost of implementing them.
