The Community We Serve Is The MostImportant Part Of What We Do!

In 2010 my father trademarkedhis magazine name as NeighborhoodNews & Lifestyles. In every maga-zine he’s owned over the past 20years, the publication’s name has al-ways been the focal point of themasthead, with the area in which itserves smaller on top.

Over the past 8 years I’veworked alongside my family andtheir publishing business. In thattime I’ve noticed a trend that seemsto be increasing with each monthlyissue that is distributed in all 7 edi-tions of our publications, whichreach over 130,000 Bay area homesand local businesses. My wife and Ilove to get involved in the communi-ties and attend as many events allacross Tampa Bay as we can. Almostevery time we’re out, a reader whorecognizes us comes up and says

something along the lines of “I loveMY Carrollwood magazine!” ;orOdessa, or Trinity, or Westchase; wedo have 7 editions so depending onwhere the event is, the edition theyreference may be different. But, re-gardless, they all have one thing incommon, and that is they take own-ership of the magazine as being themagazine for that community. Theyrefer to it as “MY magazine.” This isthe single biggest compliment wecan receive, because it symbolizes ex-actly what we set out to do withthese publications. We have alwayswanted to bring our community to-gether as one big neighborhood andwhen we hear the same commentover and over again, we really feellike we’re doing our job.

In 2014 we decided to trade-mark “Your neighborhood, Your

magazine.” We added that to ourmasthead as well, right under ourlogo. We did this just to reinforcewhat so many people were alreadysaying about us. It really means a lotto my family and me that you readand enjoy our publication eachmonth, so THANK YOU! If you no-ticed the masthead on our frontcover of this issue you’ll see that wechanged things up again. We de-cided to make Carrollwood the focalpoint of our cover’s masthead withour magazine name smaller and un-derneath. The community in whichwe serve is the most important partof what we do so we decided toproudly post it for all to see; big andbold right there on the top of ourfront cover! Again, THANK YOUCarrollwood; thank you for all ofyour support!

Tess Fine Jewelry may be new tothe area, but by no means are theynew to the industry. Owner and mas-ter jewelry designer Tuong Nguyenhas been in the industry for over 25years. Tuong really found his niche inthe custom jewelry design marketabout 15 years ago, staking his claimand putting his magical touch onthousands upon thousands of extraor-dinary custom-made pieces.

When asked about why he chosethis career, Tuong responded with,“I didn’t choose it. In fact, I had noidea this was my path would take me.All I knew was that I loved to designand work with my hands. I got myfirst job in jewelry; I was instantly de-termined to become the very best atit that I could be. I really feel like itchose me.”

When people walk into his beauti-ful gallery and meet Tuong, they aremeeting not only the designer but alsothe custom jewelry maker. Many cus-

tom jewelry stores have a separate de-signer and bench jeweler; Tuong, onthe other hand, is both. This is huge!Completely eliminating any chance ofmiscommunication between the jew-elry maker and designer, Tuong isthere throughout the entire process, which means he finishes each piece ex-

to look like before he creates it. Thisensures that you will get exactly whatyou want every time!

The rings and customized pen-dants that my wife and I saw insidehis gallery on our visit had both ofour jaws dropping and I’m quite sureI know exactly what she will be ask-ing for when her birthday comes in afew months.

The great thing about Tess FineJewelry is even though you get a cus-tom created piece designed especiallyfor you by a true artist, you don’t paythe custom price. I was surprised tofind that for the quality of metal andstones, his prices are comparable to

what you would find in a typical retailjewelry store.

Unfortunately, these days whenyou purchase jewelry at certainstores, a lot of it is outsourced fromother countries, such as China orIndia, making it difficult to its qualityand authenticity.

Every piece of jewelry created andsold at Tess Fine Jewelry is made fromthe highest quality metals and precious

stones and is guaranteed by Tuonghimself. It’s made not only in the USAbut right here in Carrollwood. It’svery important to Tuong that peopleknow they can get the highest qualitycraftsmanship right here at home.

As the saying goes, “diamonds area girl’s best friend.” If so, maybe youshould look for a new best friend atTess Fine Jewelry in Carrollwood, where they pride themselves on creat-

ing the most beautiful, high-qualityjewelry that is truly one-of-a-kind be-cause it is made especially for you!

Tess Fine Jewelry is located onthe corner of Van Dyke Road andN Dale Mabry in the LA FitnessPlaza at 17687 N. Dale MabryHwy in Lutz. Hours are Mon. –Fri. 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sat. 10a.m. – 6 p.m. They are closed Sun.For more information please call(813) 999-4994, [email protected] or visitwww.TessFineJewelry.com. From designing the rendering of the ring on his CAD software (L), to creat-ing the ring (M), to presenting the finished work of art (R), Master JewelryDesigner Tuong Nguyen is there throughout the entire process, which means

“Our turkey is real turkey, thesame thing you would eat on Thanks-giving,” says owner Stephena Pierre, who runs Carrollwood Café & Delialongside her husband Webster. “Ourcorned beef is an actual brisket thatwe slow cook and let rest for 24hours before serving to really en-hance the flavor, and we make ourbread fresh daily.” All of their soupsare homemade as well, and are a hugehit at the Deli.

The customers at CarrollwoodDeli really appreciate the love and carethat Stephena and Webster put into

“This is the best deli on many lev-els,” writes one customer. “I alwaysreturn for the delicious sandwiches;the wonderful homemade breads, tasty pastrami, corned beef, andchicken and tuna salads are amazing.Wait until you try their homemadesoups! My favorite is their chunkytomato with chickpeas! They offermany choices, none will disappoint. They did a wonderful catering job aswell. It is definitely worth the 40minute drive for me!”

Taking over ownership of theDeli two years ago, Stephena andWebster have kept the tradition ofCarrollwood Café & Deli runningstrong, offering the same delicioussandwiches that have been a staple inthe community for the past 18 yearsand creating new staples for genera-tions to come!

“Our #1 priority when takingover ownership was making sure thetransition was seamless – from thequality of our food to the level of ourservice,” says Stephena. “In the pasttwo years we have gotten to know a

vast majority of our customers; it’s likea Cheers feeling when you come in.We already know who you are andwhat you want to order. We enjoy de-veloping those relationships with ourcustomers and getting to know themon a personal level.”

Taking a glance over their menu, you are sure to be impressed by the se-lection. From deli sandwiches, home-made soups, and specialty salads, togourmet hot dogs and lunch platters,

they offer something for everyone! On our previous visit my husband

and I had such a wonderful experi-ence, from talking to Webster andStephena, to trying some of their deli-cious food! They gave us a few recom-mendations as to what to order, oneof which was the Wall Street Reuben.Made with their slow-cooked cornedbeef, and topped with sauerkraut,Swiss cheese, and Thousand Islanddressing served on freshly baked Jew-

Not to mention, thecrunchy Jewish Rye which it wasserved on was so fresh – you could tellit had just come out of the oven!

The perfect choice for summer, their Triple D dog, which is a spin ontheir famous Deli Dog, is loaded withawesomeness. Featuring a Nathan hot-

A favorite at Carrollwood Café &Deli, the corned beef sandwich is byfar one of the best I have ever eaten.Piled so high with meat, the onlyproblem was trying to figure out howto take the first. But, once I got the

first bite in, it wasn’t long before itwas devoured. You could definitely tellthe difference in the quality of themeat used – it wasn’t at all your typicalsandwich meat – it is the real deal!

There are many reasons we loveour Tampa Bay Rays! Of course, there are the games, where every in-ning has its white-knuckled, yell-out-loud moments and the breaks arefilled with laugh-out-loud antics thatkeep the live audience participating. There is no doubt, as you watch themheat up the diamond, that the Raysplayers have their heads and theirhearts in the game. Furthermore, theyhave put their hearts into the TampaBay community and have put theirheads together to make a real differ-ence for the people living here.

Spanning the organization fromthe players to the management, theTampa Bay Rays make it their team

mission to stay active, both on and offthe diamond. The Rays organizationis much more than entertainment andfinely tuned athleticism – though wedo love that! From the players andtheir families to the corporate employ-ees, the Rays are dedicated to makinga difference in the community.

One way that the Rays have beena positive force in Tampa Bay isthrough the Rays Baseball Founda-tion, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organiza-tion that supports youth educationdevelopment. The Tampa Bay Raysand their support team continuallypitch in to help families and individu-als in our community through chari-ties, volunteer programs andpartnership affiliates.

This Summer: RAYS UP For Our Community!

Most recently, the Rays created anew campaign called “RAYS UP forOur Community.” Launched onJune 1st and lasting until September20th, the “RAYS UP for Our Com-munity” campaign focuses on fourkey areas – Kids, Heroes, Health andEducation. Additionally, every gameduring each two-week campaignflight will highlight a partner agency“Everyday MVP” on the telecast andsocial media.

The four key areas of focus eachhave a Rays team ambassador, includ-ing pitchers Chris Archer and MattMoore, manager Kevin Cash and in-fielder Evan Longoria. Each cam-paign has a deep personal meaningfor them.

Tampa Bay Rays president BrianAuld says, “We enter the 10th year ofStu Sternberg’s ownership with a re-newed focus on our mission to ener-gize our community through themagic of Rays baseball. The ‘RAYSUP For Our Community’ campaigncelebrates our community partnersand helps share their successes with awider audience.”

Rays pitcher Chris Archer “threwout the first pitch” on the new cam-paign with RAYS UP for Kids on June1st. Archer dedicates his time andsupport to programs that focus onkids in the communities of TampaBay, and he is a mentor and advocatefor children.
