Anna Macleod is a Leitrim-based artist whose work on the complex subject of water has tremendous in-ternational and local relevance. Water Conversations: A Survey of Works 2007-2015 is a major exhibition of the artist’s activity to date, which has taken place in Ghana, West Africa, Northern India, USA, Ireland, Mongo-lia, Canada, Spain and Australia. Water Conversations describes an ongoing series of projects since 2007, and is articulated as series of small sculp-tures, posters, drawings and public interventions. The work explores the interstices between landscape, science, technology, culture and geo-politics, and has a collaborative aspect featuring many exciting partnerships. In addition to the exhibition, there will

be an associated programme of talks, practical workshops and children’s educational activities directly relevant to Water Conversations.

-THE YOUNG FOLK-

Carrick Water Music Festival presents an intimate concert in The Dock with The Young Folk, an up-and-coming Irish folk/rock/pop quartet. Not strict-ly a folk outfit, The Young Folk ac-knowledge their folky influences while asserting their own youthful personae with a self-composed alternative folk-pop live set that includes acoustic and electric guitars, piano, bass, drums, mandolin, banjo, trombone, melodica, xylophone and harmonica, to name but a few. The Young Folk add their own gen-erational-spin to the legacy of Irish folk-influenced music – a legacy that principal songwriter Anthony Furey knows only too well, being the son and nephew of members of the leg-

endary Fureys. While this influence on the band’s music is evident, younger audiences will also detect a sound much more akin to The Young Folk’s contemporaries, often compared to Fleet Foxes, The Lumineers and Mumford and Sons. Now on the cusp of entering the stu-dio to record the follow-up to their debut album The Little Battle (2014), we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us in The Dock.

FIDDLER IN THE LOOP VIOLIN RECITAL BY

- LUCA CIARLA -

Carrick Water Music Festival presents Luca Ciarla’s Fiddler in the Loop violin recital - an orchestra of just one! Italian born violin wizard Luca Ciarla owns the stage with his fiddle and a few toy instruments. With a loop pedal he plays layers of music over each other, creating an astonishing orchestral texture. Step by step Luca unfolds new virtuoso passages and unique sounds, playing the violin like a guitar, a cello or a percussive instrument. In this imagi-native landscape Luca sings, whistles, plays other little instruments; music is continuously evolving into a dazzling solo violin orchestra. Fiddler in the Loop features music by L. Ciarla, D. Reinhardt, The Beatles, P. Conte and Traditional. “A magical acoustic seduction where everybody can find familiar influences…from genuine folk to sophisticated jazz.” Il Fatto Quotidiano (Italy)

One of the most creative and surprising violinists nowadays, Luca Ciarla eas-ily transcends the boundaries among genres to trace an innovative musical path, a magical acoustic seduction in perfect balance between written com-positions and improvisation, traditional and contemporary sounds. He has suc-cessfully performed in jazz, classical and world music festivals and concert series in more than thirty countries and on every continent; from the Montreal Jazz Festival to the Melbourne Jazz Festival, from the National Arts Festival in South Africa to the Java Jazz Festival in Indone-sia, from the Esplanade in Singapore to the Italian Cultural Institute in New York, from the Al Bustan Festival in Lebanon to the Adriatico Mediterraneo Festival in Italy. ”Luca Ciarla has wooed the classi-cal, jazz and folk crowds with his origi-nality” Cover Magazine (Hong Kong)
