Snap.Catch.SlamWritten by Emma JowettDirected by Ben Caplan

This is a raw, emotionally-charged piece of intimate storytelling that focuses on three devastating moments that change the characters’ lives forever. Snap is inspired by the true story of a teacher who physically attacked a troublesome pupil in 2010. Catch is inspired by a 2008 newspaper image showing a baby being dropped from the third storey of a burning apartment. In Slam, Karen’s head injury leaves her with a memory that wipes itself clean every few minutes. The three narratives interweave in an electrifying portrayal of the fragility of human life.

Up ‘n’ Under IIEight months ago, The Wheatsheaf Arms, a team of hopeless, out of shape underdogs, took on the ‘unbeatable’ Cobblers in a game of rugby. Many said it couldn’t be done... and they were right. Now their story continues in Up ‘n Under II with a rematch. Training is underway but morale is dipping and cracks in friendships are beginning to show as the team realise what a huge mistake they may have made. A perfect mix of Rocky and Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights, this is John Godber’s love letter to rugby, northern humour and Yorkshire. Up ‘n’ Under II is a wholly standalone story and does not require any knowledge or viewing of the original play.

Inside Film present

The Condition ofthe Working ClassDirected by Mike Wayne and Deirdre O’neill

Everything changes and yet everything stays the same. In 2012 a  group of working people from Manchester and Salford come together to devise a theatrical show from scratch based on their own experiences and Engels’ classic 1844 book, The Condition of the Working Class in England. This film follows the process from first rehearsal to first night, a mere eight weeks later and situates their struggle to get the show on stage in the context of the daily struggles of working people facing economic crisis and austerity politics.Screening to be followed by a Q&A withthe directors.

Paperzoo present

Hard Timesby Charles Dickens

Come with us to the cotton mills of Coketown in 1840, to the heart of the industrial north west in the darkest days of the Industrial Revolution. Where poverty is always knocking on the weavers’ door while their boss lives in a mansion on the hill. Where in Thomas Gradgrind’s School for Boys and Girls the harsh philosophy of facts and nothing but facts rules the day.But where, amongst the smoking chimneys and the crashing looms, is imagination to be found? And where is there room for love? Paper Zoo recreate Dicken’s classic tale with their trademark blend of humour and visual inventiveness.

BubbleIt is 2103The world is silent. My world is in my handAnd my hand scarcely moves. Just the barely perceptible movement of a thumb moving across a tiny keyboard and eyes scanning for response. Hand held world. It wasn’t like this in 2013. People talked to each other, not virtually but really. Out loud. Yes really. There are a few eye witnesses left. Not many.Who said the last word aloud and what was it?Why is that important? Because someone needs to say something now and we can only do that if we know what happened.
