Gurdy Run Woolen Mill Is pleased to host Carol Leigh of Hillcreek Fiber Studio for a 3 day workshop in: Continuous Strand Weaving Beginning through Advanced, Triangle, Square and Rectangle Shapes May 13-15, 2011 Weaving on the Triangle Frame Loom IS truly magical. This loom dresses itself! Weaving is done with a continuous strand of yarn for both warp and weft, by weaving loops inside previous loops, to create beautiful, imaginative body drapes, ponchos, blankets, jackets and more. No weaving experience is necessary, although advanced techniques offer the experienced weaver unique, creative ways to express oneself. No individual yarns are measured and threaded through heddles or reeds, as with traditional weaving. There are very few, if any, calculations needed, so you're ready to start weaving immediately! Complete a shawl during the class. Great to show off handspun or specialty yarn. Those with previous experience with the Triangular Loom can go beyond the basic shawl and weave structure and learn lace, twills, double weaves, plan tartan plaids and other color effects or try the continuous strand weaving on the Rectangular loom. Looms are available for use during the class and available for sale for those who are having too much fun. Loom rental of $20 can be applied towards purchase price. Class size is limited to 8 and costs $225 for the three days. Materials fees can range from $25-85 depending on yarn choices. If you can’t make the class be sure to come Friday evening 7-9 pm May 13 th for Carol Leigh’s Book Signing and Trunk Show Get your copy of Carol Leigh’s new “Hot off the Press” book on Continuous Strand weaving and see firsthand all the wonderful things you can do with woven triangles and rectangles. Come tour Gurdy Run Woolen Mill and see our “new” machines.
