Greetings Everyone!

Our first meeting of the chapter year was great. Kate Kousser, from Intellibridge, provided a list of valuable tools: Risk Assessment Model, Data Mining, Comparative Case Studies, Root Cause

Analysis and several others as a means in approaching Performance Auditing. Your chapter leadership has planned an entire day on Data Analysis & ACL in November.

On October 6, 2011, we will support Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona at their Meet the Firms Student Events, from 6 – 9 p.m. One of our goals each year is to promote the auditing profession. What better way than to speak to soon-to-be graduates on the value our profession can and what it has to offer? In the spring, we plan to host a student night at a local eatery and present scholarships to students. Please plan to support this event in March/April 2012 timeframe.

Mark your Calendars for the final week in May or first week in June as specific dates have yet to be confirmed. Our IIA North American West Region District 4 will host an Annual Educational Conference. Our district was successful in hosting the Regional Conference last September in Anaheim at the Disneyland Resort. This event will feature a variety of topics and speakers that will appeal to auditors from all types of industries and organizations.

I hope to meet you in one of our upcoming events.

Regards,

Carmen McGowin-Paul IIA Inland Empire Chapter President #257

Standards are principle-focused and provide a framework for performing and promoting internal auditing.

The Standards are mandatory requirements consisting of:

Statements of basic requirements for the professional practice of internal auditing and for evaluating

the effectiveness of its performance. The requirements are internationally applicable at organizational

and individual levels.

Interpretations, which clarify terms or concepts within the statements.

It is necessary to consider both the statements and their interpretations to understand and apply the Standards correctly. The Standards employ

terms that have been given specific meanings as noted in the Glossary, which is also part of the Standards.

Each month, we’ll list a section from the Standards to help readers brush up on mandatory requirements for internal auditors.

2320 – Analysis and Evaluation

Internal auditors must base conclusions and engagement results on appropriate analyses and evaluations.

2330 – Documenting Information

Internal auditors must document relevant information to support the conclusions and engagement results.

2330.A1 – The chief audit executive must control access to engagement records. The chief audit executive must obtain the approval

of senior management and/or legal counsel prior to releasing such records to external parties, as appropriate.

2330.A2 – The chief audit executive must develop retention requirements for engagement records, regardless of the medium in

which each record is stored. These retention requirements must be consistent with the organization’s guidelines and any pertinent

regulatory or other requirements.

2330.C1 – The chief audit executive must develop policies governing the custody and retention of consulting engagement records,

as well as their release to internal and external parties. These policies must be consistent with the organization’s guidelines and any

pertinent regulatory or other requirements.

2340 – Engagement Supervision

Engagements must be properly supervised to ensure objectives are achieved, quality is assured, and staff is developed.

about your standards? You know, after all, that the only way to continue to grow, to get to the top, to reach the pinnacle of your

Just for fun…each month,

we’ll feature an image

showcasing a beautiful,

strange, or otherwise

noteworthy location from

the area many of us live

and work. Play along and

test your knowledge of the

sights of the Inland Empire,

to see if you can guess…

SEPTEMBER 2011 ANSWER: Fashioned to resemble conical

tents (“Tipi” in Lakota) used by some Native Americans in the Great Plains, this iconic

Route 66 landmark is one of three surviving out of seven original Wigwam Villages

built between 1936 through the 1950s. The Wigwam Motel on the city

boundary between Rialto and San Bernardino, California consists of 19

wigwam guest rooms, a swimming pool, and 35 palm trees surrounding the entire

property. For more information, visit http://www.wigwammotel.com/
