Have you ever been tasked with writing a message to hundreds of wonderful people that expresses gratitude, but you

were only allowed about 500 words? Well then, you feel my pain!

As I stared at a blank page, my mind conjured up the faces of the engaged audiences at our series of Community Night Programs. From John Pisto’s giant fry pan at the Mushroom Grubbing presentation to our Teacher Parent Lecture Series, the library provided nearly 20 free programs this year.

I could almost feel the warmth behind the smiling faces of the many generous donors who mingled at the Harrison Memorial Library for the Donor Salute. I thought about all of the library supporters that I had met over the past 3 years while serving on the board. There are so many supporters of the library – from large individual gifts and corporate donations to smaller gifts - all given from the heart. Many of our donors have been giving to the library for years and yet, each year, more and more people support the library.

out over an appreciative audience at the Sunset Center. I smiled as I knew that the people in that room gave so generously to support the library.

I remembered the partnerships that we have and continue to develop throughout the community. Small and large businesses, media, educational institutions – our list of amazing partners continues to grow. And that reminded me of the generous support we receive through grants, such as this year’s grant from the Carmel Rotary Club that is helping to fund the refurbishment of the Park Branch Library lobby with new technology, furniture and a colorful new look.

The faces of the many board members, past and present came to mind as I considered their generous gifts of time, talent and financial resources for the library foundation. We have a very active board, who has stepped in at every turn to provide the support needed to maintain our mission.

The Sterling Circle Event on June 11th brought memories of wonderful people, past and present, who have created a legacy in their name so that the library can continue to thrive and remain relevant in perpetuity.

I thought about the more than 112,000 people that walk through our library doors each year. I thought about the

children, the students, and the adults that our library serves through programs, services and technology. And I realized that all of this – all of my reflections on generosity are because of your support. And the best way to honor that support is to humbly say, “Thank You.”

As my husband and I prepare for our next great adventure in Prescott, Arizona I would like to thank you for the opportunity to have served as President of the Carmel Public Library Foundation.

I think you will agree with Argentinian poet, Jorge Luis Borges who said, “I have always imagined that Paradise will be some kind of library.”

SPECIAL PROGRAMSTuesday, June 27th at 1:30 pm Kenn Adams’ Adventure Theater! Presents “Adventure in Space!” A fast paced, interactive, funny, theatrical experience forheroes of all ages! Your students are cast as the stars of the show. Audience members provide sound effects, become the scenery, suggest exciting plot twists, and improvise along with the cast.

Wednesday, July 5th at 1:30 pm Musical Robot! This dynamic duo combines songs, storytelling, and out of this world dance moves, to provide an opportunity for kids to engage in fun and frolic. Musical Robot always brings the fun!

Wednesday, July 12th from 1:30 to 3:30 pmDrawing with Dante Ages 9 – 14 years. Students can choose graphite pencils, colored pencils, or pastels for artwork.All materials provided by the library. Please pre-register your student for this class.
