For oneto acquire self-knowledge, oneneeds to have the time to reflect onthemselves fully. Self-knowledgecannot be attained easily and manypeople suffer because of not kno-wing themselves. It leads to confusi-on and frustration at time’s as youbecome trapped in your own mind.People will always have a need toknow who they are for them to feelnormal and at many situations peo-ple find themselves at a point wherethey suffer from what is known as

“ identity crisis”. When you are in thissituation you seem to not know whatyou really want and you end up loo-king for yourself in other people. Youdo things because others are doingthem and you seem to not be sure witheverything that you do. You follow eve-ry trend that comes along and you ne-ver become satisfied because you can-not be fulfilled. Most people are goingthrough this problem and they thinkthat by being involved in relations-hips, it will bring them close to under-standing who they are but it does not.Maybe this is why nowadays we see somany cases where men and womenwho are lovers end up in fatal inci-dents.

I believe that some these kind of si-tuations are caused by one not kno-wing their purpose and as human be-ings we all have one similar purposethat is supposed to unify us. Accor-ding to my personal understandingour soul-purpose is to serve our crea-tor and to strive to acquire thy perfec-tion. Unfortunately when you are bornyou are not told what your purpose isand you have to live the rest of yourlife confused by the world and if you

are lucky enough, you discover whatyou are here for which brings truefulfillment. Without this knowledgelife seems to be a mystery and onehas to put the effort to know whatthey want and their reason for beingalive. This is important because itsaves you from so many troublesthat come with the lack of self-awa-reness. On the early hours of Wednesdaymor-ning 11 March around 05:00, a firebroke out at House 110 on Dolomitestreet in Carletonville.The fire was noticed by a 17 year-old

Ntsako Nkuna ,who was preparing

herself to go to school. Ntsako had justwoken up to take a bathwhen she noti-ced smoke as well as flames in the sit-ting room. She immediately alertedher father, Mandla Mlangeni, who wo-ke up to assess the situation. Hisalarm had not ringed as it usuallydoes at around 04:45. Although Mlan-

geni inhaled some smoke, he immedi-ately got up when his daughter repor-ted the fire. He managed to evacuatehis wife and the other two childrenwho were all asleep.The family had only moved into the

house on 1 March and it had been aweek since they hadbeen living togetherwhen the incident occur-red. Mlangeni explainedthat the fire was causedby an electrical plugwhich has been a pro-blem since they movedin and it was supposedto have been fixed beforethey began to reside atthe premises. The pro-blem had been reportedto the agent whowas alsoat the scene after the fire had been cle-ared by Mlangeni and a helpful neigh-bour. They had used sand instead ofwater to quench the flames.The agent took full responsibility for

the accident and was willing to assistthe family with a temporary place tostay.Luckily, the fire had not spread to

the entire house and it took about 30minutes to put out the huge flameswhich had engulfed the whole sittingroom, burning the sofas, TV, Dstv, Ra-

dio, TV stand and a cellular phone.No one was harmed but the family

does not feel safe at the house after thefire had occurred. They were also un-happy as the water supply was appa-rently not functioning properly.A previous occupant of the house

who did not want to beidentified, was also pre-sent at the scene and toldtheHerald that he residedat the house in 2013 andthe only problems he hadat house was with the gey-ser and not with theplugs.

Apparently the watersupply issues are causedby a recent occupant whohad not paid their waterbills and its now in arre-

ars with payments.The situation was distressing for

Mlangeni and his family as the olderdaughter who is a matriculant, had tobe transported by the police to the busstop as she was supposed to write anexamination on that day. According tothe electrician who attended the mat-ter, the fire was caused by a problemwith the cabling of the house.The house is being re-painted and

the electrical problem has since beenfixed.

the space where a section SerobatseStreet in Kokosi is supposed to be.According to Mr Daniel Monareng,

problems existed since he moved intothe street in 2009. Although a map ap-parently indicates that SerobatseStreet is supposed to lead to and joinintoMonareng Street, the section of thestreet leading past the oldKokosi sewa-ge works does for all practical reasonsnot exist. The same section also leadspast the yards of Monareng and hisneighbours.In the clearing between the yards and

the wall of the old sewage works tallgrass and bushes, which are in someplaces a high as the shoulder of anadultman, grow abundantly. This vege-tation is so thick that one can only hasto walk a few metres from one of thestreets for it to become too dangerousto walk further. Except for unseen ho-les, other dangers such as spiders andeven snakes pose a danger. People havealso started to dump rubbish such asbuilding rubble at the site.To make matters worse, a pipe also

spews out sewage into the grass ifdrains at houses higher up in the areaget blocked. At the time that the He-rald’s journalist visited the scene, a se-wage pool about tenmetres long, whichresidents fear is so deep in places thatchildren can drown in it, had dammedupnext to the pipe. The stench from thesewage, together with the mosquitoesand other insects from the overgrown

section of the road,makes the area veryunpleasant for residents to stay in.“I have complained to the municipa-

lity many times about the fact that thisroad has been left unfinished.They told me that the area was origi-

nally set out to be a park and that nohouses were supposed to be built here.Why is it then that when I bought myhouse froma bank no-one evermentio-ned such a thing?” Monareng lamen-ted.“It is now a health risk for all of us

who stay here,” he further complained.Monareng mentioned that he had

even gone so far to contact the munici-pality’s infrastructure manager, but tothis date the problem has not been sol-ved. The most help that Monareng hasreceived so far, was when the munici-pality apparently scraped a section ofthe problemarea last year. Nothingwashowever done further.Monareng also noted that he had loo-

ked for help from a councillor in thearea, Ms Annett Venter.Venter, in turn, showed the Herald

copies of emails that she had sent to themunicipality to ask for assistance withthis problem a month ago.Whatmakes the area evenmore dan-

gerous is the fact that large groups ofschoolchildren walk down SerobatseStreet into the old sewage works sever-al times a day as a shortcut to get toand from their homes and schools.Monareng echoed the complaint ma-

deby several other residents of the areahadmade in the past that the old sewe-rage works is supposed to be demolis-hed as its deep, abandoned pits stilllies open, filled with stinking sewage.“Why did the municipality build a

new sewage plant if they are not lettinggo of this one,” Monareng wondered,and added that he still sometimes seesmunicipal trucks emptying sewage intomanholes on the terrain.

Although the Herald asked theMera-fong City Local Municipality for com-ments on thematters raised by Monar-eng, nothing was received by the timeof the newspaper going to print.

Baie van die mense wat nouin die begraafplase begrawe is,was die bouers van ons dorpe.Hulle was nie net onder die be-sluitnemers wat die koers vandie geskiedenis bepaal het nie,maar was ook die mense watons dorpe en area fisies gebouhet.

Die huise, strate, geboue ensypaadjies waarop ons elkedag ry en stap, is deur diegenegebou wie se grafte die munisi-paliteit nou so afskeep.

Inteendeel, indien dit nie virdie mense van alle kultuur-groepe in ons begraafplase wasnie, sou ons area dalk so an-ders gelyk het dat baie van diehuidige poste in die munisipa-liteit en munisipale raad nieeens sou bestaan nie.

Met dit in gedagte is dit netreg dat ons meer respek vir dieoorledenes in ons begraafpla-se, al is dit nie familie van onsnie, sal hê. Dit is ‘n skande datbaie van ons begraafplase in so‘n slegte toestand is.

Hoewel die munisipaliteit virdie verval van areas rondom entussen grafte verantwoordelikis, het die families van die oor-ledenes ook ‘n verantwoorde-likheid om oorledenes se graftein stand te hou.

Mag diegene wat ons dorpeen area gebou het, meer respekkry.

Die gelowiges wat deur die bloedvan die Lam gekoop is en hulle kleregewas het in sy bloed, behoort aanHom en is vir tyd en ewigheid sy eien-dom (Op 5:9 en 7:14). Hulle is figuur-lik gesproke op hulle voorkoppe ge-merk as die eiendom van die Here (Op7:3).

Hulle name is geskrywe in die boekvan die Lam en God sal hulle nooitvergeet nie.

In simboliese taal word vermeld datin die eindoordeel, boeke oopgemaak

sal word. Almal, klein en groot, salvoor die troon van God verskyn wan-neer die boeke oopgemaak word. Dieboeke is die simbool van God se oor-deel (Op 20:12).

In die boeke staan alles opgetekenwat mense gedoen het, goed en sleg.Wat jy in die lewe doen of versuim omte doen, word opgeteken en sal by dieeindoordeel aan jou voorgehou word(Matt 25:31-46).

Die boek waarin jou dade opgete-ken is, gee nie die finale deurslag nie,maar wel die ander boek, die boek vandie lewe. As daar in die eindoordeelgevind word iemand se naam verskynnie in die boek van die lewe nie, salhy in die vuurpoel gegooi word (Op20:15).

Jesus het by geleentheid vir sy dissi-pels verduidelik wat die belangrikstein die lewe is. Hulle is uitgestuur om

die koninkryk van God te gaan ver-kondig en ook die werke van die ko-ninkryk te verrig.

Toe hulle in vervoering terugkomen vertel van die wonderlike werkewat hulle in die Naam van die Heregedoen het, het Jesus gesê dat hullenie net daaroor moet bly wees nie,maar veral omdat hulle name in diehemel opgeskryf is (Luk 10:17-20).

Jesus het ook die versekering ge-gee dat die name van almal wat inHom glo nooit uit die boek van dielewe, die boek van die Lam wat ge-slag is, uitgevee sal word nie (Op3:5).

Ons mag bly wees wanneer onsmet die krag van die Here meewerkom die koninkryk van God uit tebrei, maar die allerdiepste grondvan ons blydskap lê in die sekerheiddat ons name in die boek van die le-

Onthou die boek van die lewe

The Carletonville Police werealerted about a stolen motor ve-hicle on the night of 16 March.

The report entailed a stolenwhite KB Isuzu Bakkie. The vehi-cle had a tracking device, whichhelped the police trace its positi-on. The tracked signal led themtohouse45LigniteStreet.On thearrival of the police, two men we-re foundapparently changing thenumber plates of the stolen Isu-zu bakkie, which was parkedoutside the house.

The men had already replacedthe Gauteng number plates withthat of a North West registrationnumber. The two suspects werearrested and charged with pos-session of a stolen motor vehicle.

Gauteng Finance MEC Barbara Creecyindicated during a visit to Merafongthis week that the provincial govern-ment is working on plans to maketownship business viable.

Addressing nearly 500 Wedela resi-dents in Merafong Tuesday night,Creecy said the province was concer-ned it spent only 5% of its R10 billionrand procurement budget in town-ships.

“We want to grow this spend to 30%in the next five years. This means thatwe should ask ourselves where hospi-tals such as Yusuf Dadoo or Leratong

buy the loaves of bread, meat and otherfood products to feed their patients,”MEC Creecy said.

MEC Creecy visited the area as partof the Gauteng Provincial Govern-ment’s Imbizo programme. The visitfollowed a decision by the executivecouncil to interact with communitieson the contents of Premier David Mak-hura’s State of the Province Address atthe Legislature in February.

She explained that currently the fourmajor banks are bidding for the con-tract to manage the province’s bankingservices for the next five years. One of

the questions the banks will be evalua-ted on is how they plan to finance town-ship enterprises.

Creecy said Gauteng was concernedabout the loss of jobs due to the declinein mining activity in the West Randarea. She said the Gauteng City Regionwould address this in part throughspending R1.4 billion to support theWestern Development corridor.

Some of the plans include growingagricultural activity in the areathrough a planned aqua-culture pro-ject and investment to grow prawns,resulting in about 6 500 jobs over three

years, developing Lanseria airport intoa freight airport for agricultural produ-ce earmarked for production in theWest Rand and building a solar energyand manufacturing of small solar pa-nels for community use, yielding about1500 jobs, and building of about 100000 houses in planned mega housingdevelopments in the area.

“It is important to talk about andhighlight Premier David Makhura’sTen Pillars of transformation, moder-nisation and re-industrialisation(TMR) as a means of addressing thesaid problems,” she further indicated.

A road towards the bridge in Oberhol-zer around Carletonville was blockedby the traf-fic depart-ment on24 Februa-ry.

Somevehicleswere par-ked on theside of theroad whenthe Heraldarrived,and thedriverswherenowhereto be seen.MerafongCity is currently conducting a numberof law enforcement activities, which in-clude road blocks. These actions areexecuted in line with the mandate of themunicipality to ensure road safety in its

jurisdiction. The road blocks are speci-fically conducted to identifydriverswhohave outstanding warrants of arrest.

During the road block, 16 warrantsof arrest were issued for outstanding fi-

nes amoun-ting to R5100. The lo-west war-rant wasR200 inwhich thedriver couldnot show avaliddriver’s li-cence, butmanaged toproduce thelicence at alater stage.The highestwarrant is-

suedwas forR700 toadriverwhodidn’thave a driver’s licence. No vehicles wereconfiscated, but six vehicles were boo-ked into the municipal vehicle pound towhich the vehicles would remain until

the owners could pay the outstandingwarrants.

If the warrant was not paid, the offen-derwouldhavebeenarrestedand takento SAPS or court. The vehicle wouldthen be booked at the pound for safe-

keeping until the matter was finalisedin court.

The aim of this new mandate of lawenforcement is to ensure road safety,and fines are issued as a deterrent foroffenders to comply with legislation.

Inwoners van die Raatskraal-omgewing buite Fochvillemoes die afgelope naweek bontstaan toe ‘n haelstorm,wat as die hewigste in dekades beskryf word, die areagetref het.

Volgens een van die inwoners, me. Eunice Schutte,het die weer Saterdagmiddag onheilspellend begin op-streek.

“Ons het gesien dit lyk baie donkerder as gewoonliken het alles maar mooi dopgehou. Dit het op die ouend net in ‘n strook van so een en ‘n half kilometerkwaai gehaal, terwyl dit elders net gereën het,” hetsy vertel. In die strook waar die hael wel geval het,wat ‘n deel van die Raatskraal-teerpad ongeveer 17km buite Fochville ingesluit het, was dit só hewig dat‘n motor vasgeval het. Hoewel ‘n vragmotor na dietoneel gery het om te probeer help, het dié ook indiehael vasgeval.Opdieouendkondie voertuie eersomstreeks 17:30 uitkom, nadat ‘n inwoner van dieomgewing, mnr. Johan Davel, die toneel met systootskraper skoongemaak het.

“Hoewel die hael fyn was, was dit só diep dat ditamper tot by ons kuite gelê het. Dit is die ergste haelwat ek ooit in hierdie omgewing gesien het,” het die

20-jarige Schutte, wat haar hele lewe op ‘n plaas in diearea woon, vertel. Sover bekend is niemand weens diehael beseer nie en het dit, behalwe vir die ongerief, geenernstige skade aangerig nie.

wat by Sentraal Gauteng Stoei Vereni-ging geregistreer is, het aan die byeen-koms deelgeneem.Volgens mnr. Gawie de Beer, presi-

dent van Sentraal Gauteng stoei, “wasdie opening van die toernooi spesiaal”deurdat Vrede Els, ’n sewejarige stoei-er van Fochville Stoeiklub, die skrifle-sing en gebed gedoen het. De Beer hetVrede bedank vir die boodskap en sygebed en genoem dat dit opreg waar-deer word dat Vrede só ’n voorbeeld virdie ander stoeiers stel.
