You are so dearly loved and sadly missed JAS.

Love Mom, Dad, Paul, Ryan & families

Die Carletonville Herald het in sy uitga-

we van 20 jaar gelede weer oor n ver-

    skeidenheid nuusgebeure berig.

jaar gevangenisstraf gevonnis. Hy is vir

    elke aanklag ses maande gevangenis-

straf opgel. Die saak spruit uit voor-

    valle waarinBenson gedurende die tyd-

perk 1979 tot 1994 onsedelike dade

met seuns, wie se ouderdomme van vyf

jaar tot 13 jaar wissel, gepleeg het.

    Enormous uncertainty appeared to

surround the future of all the local pri-

mary and high schools, and principals

seemed very reluctant to comment on

what they felt could happen during the

course of the year. Many principals felt

that each school should be judged indi-

vidually, as class sizes differed and cer-

tain teachers, for example a music tea-

cher or a principal, did not have a fixed

    classroom. All principals expressed

the hope that none of their teachers

would have to leave, but that the entire

situationwas in the hands of the educa-

    tion department.

Die vinnige optrede van n oplettende

inwoner van Fochville het die vorige

week daartoe gelei dat ses rowers gear-

resteer is. Mnr.

    verdagte voertuig in

    Presidentstraat in die dorp

opmerk.

    sipale verkiesing was uiters teleurstel-

lend. Net 166 mense is op Vrydag, 27

Januarie geregistreer en 282 op Maan-

dag, 30 Januarie. Na raming het sowat

    130 000kiesers inGroter Carletonville

    gewoon.

Me. Brenda Pienaar

    (31) vanWeaverrylaan48,OosDriefon-

tein en haar broer, Christo Pienaar van

dieselfde adres, het ontken dat hulle

hul stiefpa, mnr. Willem van Vuuren,

vermoor het, n maand nadat hy hul

ma, me. Cornelia Janse van Vuuren

    doodgeslaan het.

    Jong vader tot pedofiel verklaar

    A former topofficial at theMerafongCity

Municipality, Mr, Jan JJ Murray, pas-

sed away at his home in Carletonville on

    Friday.

According to the Police, Murray took

his own life. His body was found by his

    son-in-law.

Jan Murray dedicated his life to the

service of the municipalities. He started

his career in 1971 in Lydenburg, and in

September of that year he was appoin-

ted at the TownCouncil of Carletonville.

His career of thirty-plus yearswas span-

    ned across several municipalities such

as in Khutsong, at the Regional Office in

    Potchefstroom, as Town Secretary in

    Wedela and as Chief Executive/Town

Clerk of Wedela. He held various positi-

ons also within the Merafong City Local

    Municipality until his retirement in

April last year, the municipality indica-

ted, among other warm epithets, as part

of a tribute to Murray on Tuesday.

In preparation for his career, Jan

Murray completed a BA degree in 1978

and anMBA in 1993. Apart from his de-

    grees, Jan com-

    pleted a total of 16

    certificate courses

    for a variety of ma-

    nagement, financi-

    al management

    and human re-

    source manage-

    ment specialities.

    Jan was actively

    involved in the ar-

    rangement of the

    LocalGovernment

    Elections until

    1994.

    Hewasmuch li-

    ked by his collea-

    gues and was able

    to work with peo-

    ple from diverse

    backgrounds and

cultures. Jan was the person many

    would approach with their problems

be it work problems or personal pro-

    blems.

Mr Murray was a very private indivi-

dual. In his applications for various po-

sitions he would not include any perso-

nal information apart from his address,

    educationandworkexperience.He indi-

    cated that death is

    a very personal

    matter, and that

    he would not want

    his employer to

    hold a memorial

    service for him.

    While the munici-

    pality respects Mr.

    Murrays wishes

    for privacy, we

    cannot but mourn

    the passing of a

    long-serving offici-

    al and remember

    the contribution

    he made in our

    private and pro-

    fessional lives,

    the municipality

    further indicated.

    Former topmunicipal official passes away

    The late Mr Jan Murray.

An accident that involved a delivery

truck and two vehicles took place on

the N12 road on 30 January around

    16:35.

    Three occupants who were travel-

ling in the truck are still alive andwere

taken to the hospital for minor inju-

    ries. However, drivers and passengers

of the other vehicles involved in the ac-

cident died at the scene. A total of

    threemendied from the fatal accident,

    which took place near Glenharvie.

    Another accident also occurred on

    the Friday between Deelkraal and

    Elandsrand when a woman driving

with her child in the vehicle lost cont-

rol. The child sustained minor inju-

ries and the woman was transferred

    to Milpark Hospital.

On the same day another woman

died on the N14 when she was hit by

a passing grey Corsa bakkie while she

was on the pavement. A terrible acci-

dent also took place on Saturday, Ja-

nuary 24, when a female driver lost

control of her vehicle and hit a tree.

The accident occurred near the Leslie

Williams Hospital and the injured wo-

man had to be removed from the vehi-

cle using the Jaws of life.

    Kagiso Segone

    Incidents of gangsterismhave takenpla-

ce in two high schools in Khutsong re-

    cently.

    The Sowetan recently published an

article about the gruesome stabbing of

a Casanova gangmember on 27 Janu-

ary within the walls of Badarile High

School. The victim was a Grade 9 lear-

ner who was stabbed in the face by a ri-

val gang member in the school toi-

lets. The Herald visited the two Khuts-

ong high schools; namely, Badarile and

    Tswasongu inwhich gangsterism repor-

    tedly exists. Apparently, in Tswasongu,

there are two rival gangs: the Casanovas

    and the Vandals.

    According to a spokesperson at

    Tswasongu school, the gangsters come

to the school to resolve their problems

of the weekend, and they fight with each

other. An incident had occurred in No-

vember 2014 in which a learner from

Tswasongu, who was apparently a gang

member, was stabbed to death at Gran-

nys Tavern in Khutsong Extension 1.

Although these evils exist, the school

has been proactive through its partici-

pation and compliance with the SAPS.

Part of this participation includes the

random searching of learners; and ac-

    cording to the schools spokesperson,

such searches are performed at least

    fortnightly. No serious weapons have

been found through these searches. In

    addition, ithasbeenalleged that thepro-

minent gang members are in grades 9

    and 10.

As a direct consequence of the recent

gangsterism, it has been reported that

Badariles teachers fear for their safety.

    Allegedly, the Casanova gang attacked

the Garenjas, who are from the hostels

in Khutsong, on Friday, 23 January at

Badirile High School, just outside the

school yard. However, before the violen-

ce escalated, the gang members fled.

On the following weekend a boy was

    stabbed, allegedly by a gang member;

and onMonday (26 January), a fight en-

    suedbetween the gangswhowerewithin

    the school during break time.

Despite a tip-off to alert teachers of an

attack that would take place on Friday,

30 January, on school property, a group

    of unknown gangmembers stormed the

    school field aroundmidday after forcing

themselves through the main gate, evi-

dently apathetic to the authority of the

    security guard, whom they assaulted.

They entered the school carrying dange-

    rous weapons, in-

    cluding, as far as

    could be determi-

    ned, big knives

    and pangas. They

    disturbed an ath-

    letic meeting that

    was taking place

    among the tea-

    chers and caused

    a scene around the

    school, but the tea-

    chers took charge

    and fought them

    with the intention

    of detaining them.

    The gang, howe-

    ver, managed to

    escape by jumping

    over the fence

    but this was not

    the end: the tea-

    chers drove after

    the gangsters and

    managed to captu-

    re many of them.

    Fortunately, no in-

    juries were repor-

    ted.

    Although over

    50 gang members

    were arrested, the

    police were forced

    to release them

    shortly thereafter

    because most of

    whomwereunder-

    age. However, on

    Monday after-

    noon, 2 February,

    a disciplinary hea-

    ring took place

    against the group;

    15 of whom were

    suspended until further notice.

There was another threat of gang

    members targeting teachers and securi-

ty guards; but no further attacks have

    been reported.

The violence in schools is causing a

major disruption in the education pro-

cess for those who want to learn. Not-

    withstanding the quietude this week,

when the Herald visited Badirile, there

was a group of youngmen at the admini-

stration office who had been accused of

    bullying adisabled learner. According to

one of the teachers at the school, who

    spoke fromher experience, gangsterism

develops frombullying, and it should be

    avoidedby allmeansbecause every lear-

ner has a right to education.

I would like to point out the issue of

    many young fathers neglecting their

    children.

If a man is man enough to court a

    young woman, usually with promi-

ses of a future, then he should be

man enough to face up to the conse-

    quences.

    Furthermore, such fathers, if we

should deem to call them fathers

are too selfish to consider the psy-

    chological effects abandonment has on

    the child.

As long as young men are running

from responsibility, the cycle of affec-

ted children will continue; and these

children become adults and may lack

the confidence and the discipline to

succeed in life theymay repeat the be-

haviour shown; that a father is unne-

    cessary.

There will be more chances for a

child becoming a better person in a sta-

ble home because the child will grow

    up secure and confident.

Through love and support the future

can be made a place in which everyone

    would be happy to live.

Lets think of fatherhood in a positive

way and have fun in the process.

Do things with your child, play with

    them, take them to school.

Where are the fathers to escort their

    children?

Be the man, be unique and as my

wise friend once said of fatherhood,

    Stand up and stand out.

Lets talk about it - Standupand standout

DA starts petition over problems at themunicipality

    Adele Louw

    Irregular expenditure at the Merafong

    City Municipality increased more than

ten times during the past year.

During a special council meeting of

the municipality, which was held on 28

January, the report of the Auditor-Gene-

ral (AG) on the financial situation of he

municipality as of 30 June was presen-

    tedbefore council. Furtherdetail ofwhat

the AG picked up was also set out in a

    final management report.

According to the AG, irregular expen-

diture to a total amount of R301 818

753 was picked up at the municipality

for the year leading up to 30 June 2014.

    A further R6 804 153 that was incurred

in prior years was also identified. All of

    the irregular expenditure fromprevious

years was identified during the AGs au-

dit process and was not detected by the

    monitoring processes within the muni-

    cipality.

    The irregular expenditure picked up

during the past year is drastically higher

than the R11 million in 2012 and the

R28,4 million in 2013, as the audit re-

    port stipulated.

The root cause of the lack of effective

    preventionanddetection [is] inadequate

    implementation of policies and proce-

dures, the report noted. It was also no-

ted that all of the past years irregular

expenditure occurred as a result of the

    contraventionof the supply chainmana-

    gement legislation.

In the latest report, the AG also notes

    several problems at the municipality,

which were discovered during the cour-

    se of the audit.

    Among other discrepancies, it noted

that themunicipality is currently the de-

fendant in various court cases and has

suffered water distribution losses of 5

    508 849 kilolitres, valued at R30 348

113 as well as electricity distribution

    losses of 42 999 459 kilowatts, which

    translates to R39 981 937.

Furthermore, the AG also found that

    many financialmatters at themunicipa-

lity were not managed in accordance

    with the Municipal Finance Manage-

ment Act, which is the legislation that

    governs municipal financial matters.

The issues for which the municipality

did not adhere to legislation include the

    drawing up of financial statements,

which were later corrected; the fact that

sufficient evidence could not be obtai-

    ned tobid specificationsandwhichwere

approved by the accounting officer; that

reasonable steps were not taken to pre-

    vent irregular, unauthorised, fruitless

    and wasteful expenditure; the munici-

palitys lack of (and maintenance there-

    of) effective, efficient and transparent

systems for financial and risk manage-

    ment and internal controls.

The audit also found that the munici-

pality did not have effective monitoring

controls in place to ensure that financial

    and performance reports are supported

by complete, relevant and accurate in-

    formation that management did not

    adequately review,monitor and address

    non-compliance with applicable laws

    and regulations.

Moreover, it also mentioned that the

    municipality had neither appropriate

risk assessments in place nor any evi-

dence to prove any of these assessments

had been conducted, which ought to ha-

    ve been performed by themunicipalitys

internal audit section prior to audits.

As a result, therefore, the municipali-

ty did not identify key sections of non-

compliance and did not report key defi-

ciencies to management and the audit

committee, which ought to have been

    done.

The accounting officer did not ade-

    quately exercise oversight responsibility

    regarding financial performance repor-

    ting and compliance with applicable

laws and regulations, the AG also sta-

    ted.

The report further indicated that the-

re are currently various investigations in

progress at the municipality relating to

    procurement irregularities, fraud, theft,

    negligence... and that investigations

were still being conducted at the time

    this report was drawn up.

    Finally, theAG indicated that thereare

problems with service delivery in the

    municipality.

He noted that the backlog in the provi-

sion of sanitation would not have been

eradicated by the end of 2014; that tar-

gets for providing access to basic sanita-

tion for households for the 2012-13 and

the 2013-14 financial years were not

    achieved.

The AG also highlighted that the mu-

    nicipality underspent the Municipal In-

frastructure Grant funds for road infra-

    structure.

Targets, as the AG points out, for the

construction of new roads and the up-

grading of roads have not beenmet; and

    that the municipalitys maintenance

plan does not address a forecast for the

    maintenance and repairs.

munisipaliteit meer as tien keer so-

veel geld as tydens die vorigemunisi-

    pale finansile jaar wanbestee. Die

OG het ook verderemiljoene rand se

    wanbestede geld van vorige finansi-

ele jare oopgevlek wat nie deur die

    munisipaliteit self agtergekom is

    nie.

    Intussenhet lede vandiemunispa-

    munisipale geboue opgeruk om on-

    burgemeester en speaker ryook by-

    voorbeeld steeds met duur motors

    rond.

    bestee is.

    Lees Levitikus 1:1-17

As jy tot eer vanGodwil lewe, moet

    Wanneer die boek Levitikus be-

    moeting gebringmoesword, l daar-

    in boodskappe vanGod verskuil wat

vir alle gelowiges ten alle tye belang-

    rik is.

Die opgang na die altaar toe was

aan die suidekant van die altaar, ter-

wyl die offerdier in die teenwoordig-

heid van die Here aan die noorde-

kant geslag moes word. Die ashoop

    waaral die ongebruikte goedereweg-

gegooi is, was aan die oostekant (Lev

    1:11,16).

    Anders asby Israel,wasbydiemees-

    te volke indiedae vanMoses,die ooste-

kant die heilige kant. Die verering van

die oostekant het ingesluit dat die son

    as god gehuldig,verheerlik en aanbid

    is.

In n visioen het Esegil gesien hoe

25 manne met hulle rug na die tempel

toe enhulle gesig nadie ooste toe, besig

    dieoostekantnie,maarwel aandie sui-

    dekant vandie tabernakel (Eks40:24).

    1:18).

Die sinlose bestaan was die ou

    heidense leefstyl waarin afgode gedi-

plek van God, bo God of langs God

    spreke, nadie ashoop vandiewreld

    keer.

nie ver na supermarkte of ander be-

    sighede kan beweeg nie. Hoekom

merk is nie? Hoe sal diegene wat die

    polisie-parkering so toeparkeer, voel

indien die polisie laat by die misdaad-

    by hul voertuig te kom?

    Daarmee saammoet die polisie egter

n Kollega van Wysneus het egter die

afgelope naweek na n seevakansie te-

    tog terug huis toe gewaar.

Iewers op die hoofpad deur die Vry-

The Herald last week erroneously star-

ted that it spoke to a builder at the pro-

ject to build the new school in Khuts-

ong Extension 5 called Mr Bubesi Mas-

    haba.

The builder to whom the Herald spo-

ke is however not called Mr Bubesi

Mashaba. Mr Mashaba is in fact the

    ChairpersonofKhutsongSouthPrima-

    ry Schools School Governing Body

(SGB) who is also an owner of the secu-

rity firm guarding the premises of the

new school that is being built.

The Herald apologises for any pro-

blems thatmight have occurred as a re-

    sult of the mistake.

    For the record

    Adele Louw

Members of the South African Munici-

    pal Workers Union (SAMWU) mar-

ched last week to show their dissatis-

faction with the growing problems at

    the municipality.

On Thursday, a large group of muni-

    cipal and community development

    workers marched from the Merafong

    City Local Municipalitys Supply Cha-

in Offices in Canal Street in Carleton-

ville to the main municipal offices in

    Halite Street.

    Here, the SAMWU regional secreta-

ry, Buyisile Nqaba, handed over the

    memorandum to three members of

    the Mayoral Committee, Welheminah

    Molubi, Noluthando Fani and Mluleki

    Dyonase. Molubi said, upon receiving

    the memorandum, that the Executive

    Mayor, Maphefo Mogale Letsie, indica-

ted that she suddenly fell ill earlier the

same morning and could not attend.

During the march it became clear

that the employees were very worried

    about themunicipalitys financial situ-

ation and the municipalitys recent re-

duction of employee benefits in order

    to save money.

It is our concern as members of

    SAMWU that themunicipality is facing

a financial crisis, Nqaba read from

    the memorandum and indicated that,

as a result, members are not being

    paid overtime and the long-standing

    arrangement inwhich they could swap

leave days for cash has also been

    scrapped without consulting the wor-

kers, as required by their set policies

    and procedures.

    Nqaba also indicated that although

    municipal employees have heard the-

re might not be money to pay their sa-

laries, the municipality has not offici-

ally spoken to them to tell them exactly

    what its financial status is.

The financial crisis within the mu-

    nicipality has affected service delivery

and has [lowered the morale of] our

members. We demand to know what

led to this financial crisis; and a com-

    prehensive report must be tabulated

at the L.L.F. (Local Labour Forum).

What system do you have in place to

    assist themunicipality in this financial

crisis? If there is mismanagement in

    the municipality, the person responsi-

ble for that must be subjected to disci-

plinary action and must pay back the

    money, SAMWUdemanded in theme-

    morandum.

SAMWU also mentions in the me-

morandum that there is currently a

shortage of staff due to a moratorium

of the recruitment and employment of

workers. It also states that the organi-

    sational structure of the municipality

    was approved without following pro-

    per procedures.

    Furthermore, the municipality was

noted as being unstable due to its mu-

    nicipal manager never retaining the

    post on a permanent basis.

The strategy of employment was al-

so attacked in this memorandum in

    which it mentions the municipalitys

disregard of protocol, and it even lists

the existing executive directors as per-

    sons who were employed without

them adhering to the criteria required

    for the positions.

    The unions disputed the shortlis-

ting and interviews but was neverthe-

less undermined by the employer who

arrogantly went ahead with the em-

    ployment, the memorandum states

and also indicates that witnesses saw

    themanagers attending trainingwhich

they were supposed to have had alrea-

dy. SAMWU demanded that the mana-

gers contracts of employment be im-

    mediately terminated. In addition,

SAMWU lists another grievance in its

    memorandum inwhich it states that

    themunicipality has appointed con-

    sultants without following the cor-

rect processes and this has resulted

    in the municipality going ban-

    krupt. They demand the immedia-

    te termination of these consultants

    contracts. SAMWU also questioned

    the irregular secondment of

    Johnny Rabotapi. Finally, SAMWU

    has demanded that all employees

who have won their cases in the La-

    bour Court be immediately reinsta-

ted and that the local SAMWU Cha-

    irperson, Abram Toons resume his

    position with immediate effect.

We give the municipality 14 wor-

king days to respond to our demands.

If this does not happen, we will also

call in the help of the community,

    Nqaba indicated.

    Adele Louw

During the past year, the Chairperson

of theMerafong branch of the South Af-

    rican Municipal Workers Union (SAM-

WU) has had to sit at home several ti-

mes after ruffling too many feathers

    about irregularities at themunicipality.

TheHerald spoke to the Chairman of

    the Merafong branch of SAMWU,

Abram Toons, during the past week.

Toonss situation came to light after

    this union demanded his reinstate-

    ment during theirmarch to themunici-

    pality last week Thursday.

According to Toons, he is currently

sitting at home on a three-month sus-

pension after he spoke out about irre-

    gular actions at the municipality.

It is the third time that he has been

suspended, with full pay, during the

past year. Toons told the Herald that he

worked at the municipality for five ye-

ars before becoming a unionist five ye-

    ars ago.

I became involved in the union be-

cause I am a Christian and like serving

people. I dont like people being op-

    pressed or cheated, he explained.

Toons told the newspaper that the

first scary thing at the municipality

took place shortly after the start of the

term of the current Mayor, Maphefo

Mogale Letsie; and it was during this ti-

me that themunicipality wanted to em-

ploy Nhlanhla Maxwell Mabaso as mu-

nicipal manager in spite of his inade-

    quate qualifications for the post.

    SAMWU made national legal history

when they became the first union to

stop the appointment of a municipal

manager in court because he did not

    have the skills, expertise, competenci-

es and qualifications prescribed in le-

gislation for someone to fill the positi-

    on.

We were very much disappointed at

the time because we thought that the

Mayor and council would do a proper

    background check before they appoin-

    ted someone, Toons tells.

    According tohim,danger lights again

    started flashing when theMayor secon-

    ded the municipalitys Human Resour-

ces Officer, Johanny Rabotapi, into the

position of Chief Of Staff, disregarding

the fact that themunicipality has no se-

condment policy for this to take place.

    This irregular secondment took place

at the time former Acting Municipal

    Manager, George Seitisho, arrived in

    Merafong.

I asked Seitisho about this appoint-

ment and he said that we should not

    involve ourselves with political issues,

    Toons recalls.

Toons also tells of how his problems

    with the municipal management star-

ted after he sent a letter to the Chief

Whip, Happy Lwana, asking to meet

with him, the Speaker and the Mayor

to discuss the way in which Seitisho

handled the management of the muni-

    cipality.

    Someof the issues that SAMWUwan-

ted to raise were the fact that two con-

sultants had been hired at salaries of

    R100 000 per month.

In one case, a person without matric

was also appointed in an important po-

    sition.

We still want the municipality to do

a skills audit so that such wrong things

can be routed out, says Toons.

He was suspended for the first time

shortly after this request for the mee-

ting; although, at the time of the news-

paper going to print, he had not been

foundguilty of any charges against him.

Toons also showed the Herald docu-

mentation that proves this current sus-

pension, of which he was informed on

12 December last year, also did not co-

me from his direct manager, Mthini

    Mthembu, as required by procedure.

He indicates that there are currently

    many problems at the municipality

which still cause a headache for SAM-

    WU.

One of them is that, although em-

ployees benefits are being cut in an al-

leged effort to save money, tenders

which do not necessarily make sense

    are still given out.

In one such instance a security com-

panywashired to supply security at the

    Carletonvillemunicipal buildingdespi-

te the fact that themunicipality already

has security officers in its employment.

    Other, current issues include themu-

nicipalitys appointment of a new servi-

ce provider for fleet management de-

spite the fact that no one, according to

Toonss knowledge, had ever seen the

tender being advertised and any im-

    portant positions at the municipality

are, apparently, not filled if the certain

    candidates, whom politicians want to

have in those positions, are not appoin-

    ted.

    The position of the municipalitys

    HumanResourcesManager, for instan-

ces, has been open now for three years.

The main reason why I enjoy taking

on these troubles, despite the pro-

blems it gives me, is because I want to

protect my community and the wor-

kers. I would be very happy. If disci-

pline could be applied consistently and

    not selectively... Toons concluded.

    SAMWUChairmans fight against irregularities

Mr Abram Toons with documents dealing with some of the recent irregularities at the

    municipality.

    A recruitment campaign was con-

    ducted by the Carletonville SAPS

    The event began from8:00-16:00

    Gesonde eetge-

    woontes is nie net

    deel van n geba-

    lanseerde leefstyl

    nie, dit is ook ons

    verantwoordelik-

    heid teenoor ons

    liggame. Goeie ge-

    sondheid, ware le-

    wenslus en hope

    energie is van die

    wonderlike bo-

    vitamiene (A, D, E,K) en essensile vet-

    sure (veral Omega 3

    en 6) te voorsien.

    Daar is twee soorte

    vet in voedsel, naam-

    lik versadigde en on-

    versadigde vette (po-

    li- en mono-onversa-

    digde vetsure).

    Versadigde vette

    (snoeperye, room,

    botter, harde dierlike

    vette, harde marga-

    rien) wat lei tot ver-

    hoodge cholesterol

    in die bloed, moet

    vermy word.

    Tuna-vulsel vir

    broodjies

    Meng saam: 1 middelslag-wortel (ge-

    rasper), groen babakoolkop (fynge-

kerf), 1 klein appel (in dun skyfies ge-

    sny), 15ml pampoensaad, 25g pitlose

    rosyne, 100ml ongegeurde joghurt en

5ml heuning. Roer by 170g gevlokte tu-

Ver-

koel. Rooster 4 pitabroodjies, sny mid-

deldeur omagt sakkies te vorm en skep

    die vulsel in. Bedien dadelik.

    Gekrummelde vis

Voorverhit die oond tot 180C. Plaas

4 porsies stokvis in n oondbak en geur

    met visspeserye.Meng 125ml elk Trim-

    slaaisous en ongegeurde laevetjoghurt

en skep oor vis. Bak dit 20 minute.

    Meng 2 fyngerolde Pro-Vitas, 50ml ge-

    rasperde parmesaankaas en n knippie

paprika en strooi egalig oor die gereg.

Bak nog 15 minute totdat vis maklik

vlok. Strooi gekapte pietersielie oor en

bedien met oondgebakte skyfies en n

    slaai.

    Chicken terrine

    Shred 320g cooked

    chicken breasts.

    Combine with 5 finely

    chopped dried or can-

    ned apricots, 15ml

    each finely chopped

    fresh chives and thin-

    ly sliced spring oni-

    on. Fold in 180g low-

    fat plain creamcheese

    (room temperature)

    and season with salt,

    black pepper and

    pinch paprika. Chill

    until needed. Use a ve-

getable peeler and peel 12 long ribbons

from 1 2 cucumbers. Slightly overlap

6 ribbons on a clean surface to form a

sheet. Place half the filling on one side

of the sheet and roll up tightly to form

a cylinder. Repeat with the leftover fil-

ling and another 6 ribbons. Gently cut

the terrine into rounds, top with

sprouts and serve over pieces of melba

    toast.

    Roerbraai groente

    Roerbraai bevrore groenbone vir 6

minutemet uieringe en jy het n heerlike

gereg op die tafel. Hier is n paar wenke

    Voeg by groentemet stukkies gebraaide

spek en roerbraai. Voeg n handjievol

    grondbone, 30ml vars gekapte pieter-

sielie, sout, n bietjie suurlemoensap en

    vars gemaalde swartpepernasmaakby.

    * Maak omelette met 2 eiers. Laat

effens afkoel en sny in fyn repies. Voeg

    by groente met stukkies gebraaide

spek, tesame met gaar skyfies wors,

sout en swart peper na smaak.

    * Sny 2 snye witbrood in blokkies en

braai in kookolie tot bros en ligbruin.

    Strooi geras-perde parmesaankaas oor

en voeg by groente-mengsel met stuk-

    kies gebraaide spek.

    Pastaslaai

    Kook 150g volgraan-noedels in vinni-

ge kokende water vir 8 - 10 minute (al

dente). Dreineer en gooi in n mengbak.

    Kook 150g vars broccoli-blommetjies

vir 1 minuut; dreineer en gooi by die

noedels. Voeg by 1 gekapte knoffelhui-

    sie, 100g gemarineerde songedroogde-

tamaties, in klein stukkies gesny, (of

    100g kersietamaties), 100g lae-vet ge-

    krummelde feta-kaas, 50ml vars ge-

kapte pietersielie en n klompie swart

olywe enmeng liggies met n vurk. Voeg

net genoeg lae-olie Griekse slaaisous by

om die mengsel klam te maak. Verkoel

tot yskoud. Bedien met braaivleis of
