Scope and Content:

The collection consists of correspondence, memoranda, resumes, printed materials,

bound reports, and briefing material. The material relates to Carlton Neville’s service as

National Director of Conservationists for the 1976 Carter/Mondale Campaign

Committee; and his service as coordinator of the Carter Task Force on Energy during the

subsequent transition following Carter’s election to the presidency.

Creator Information: Carlton Neville

Carlton Neville was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1941. He earned his B.S. (Physics) in

1963, and his M.S. (Physics) in 1964 at the Georgia Institute of Technology. From 1965

to 1966 he served with the U.S. Public Health Service in a Radiological Health

Traineeship. In 1967, he earned an M.S. in (Nuclear Engineering) at the Georgia Institute

of Technology.

He served in a variety of professional positions over the next several years: Senior

Nuclear Engineer, Lockheed Nuclear Products Co. (1968-72); Assistant Professor,

Kennesaw Junior College (1972-76); Chairman, Georgia League of Conservation Voters

(1972-76); Director, Georgia Wildlife Federation (1974-76); Director, Save America’s

Vital Environment (1975); and President, Atlanta Audubon Society (1975-76.)

Neville served in the Carter/Mondale presidential campaign as National Director of

Conservationists for Carter/Mondale, primarily from March of 1976 through November

of 1976. In this position, Neville organized and operated a nationwide network of state

conservationists for Carter organizations. He also served as Coordinator of the Carter
