Carleton Community High School - Music department - Homework (2015-2016) Your Music homework tasks are project based in line with the topic covered in your Music lessons. You Music teacher will discuss the homework task for each unit and they will inform you of the submission date. It is your responsibility to make sure that you know what the homework task is and when is it due to be handed in, make sure that you have it written down in your planner.

Musical Scales Design a snakes and ladders grid sheet or board game on Music scales. You should include information on the types musical scales, how scales are constructed, the use of natural notes, flats (b) and sharps (#), the number of notes in each scale, examples of musical scales, examples of what a musical scale can be compared to, examples of melody lines which are based on a particular scale (the performance pieces you have rehearsed in lessons).

Oct - Dec 2015

Reggae Music Your task is to research the key elements associated with Reggae music and to produce an A4 fact sheet (only one side). Your homework must include information on the following areas; Introduction to Jamaica – geographical and historical info. Reggae religions – Rastafarianism. Reggae styles – Ska, Dub and Reggae (descriptions of each style). Instruments associated with Reggae music. Famous artists/group biography – Bob Marley, UB40, Sean Kingston.

Jan - Feb 2016

The Beatles a) Research 'The Beatles' and produce a newspaper article on the band (one side of A4). You could include information on the band members, how they met, the style of music they performed, the instruments they played, and how they became famous. Add in any other information which feel may be relevant. OR b) Imagine that you are a newspaper or TV reporter. Think about what questions you would want to ask any or all of the band member. Create a written or typed interview (one side of A4), include images to support your research.

Feb - April 2016

Chinese Music Your task is to create a spider gram/mind map of information connected to Chinese music. Your homework must contain at least 12 pieces of information and sound include images of instruments commonly used in Chinese music. Include information on how Chinese music is created, how the music has developed, the types of instruments used and any interest facts associated with China or the music of China.

April - May 2016

World Music - African Music /Samba music.

a) Design a leaflet or display poster on the given strand of World Music form this academic year. Include some background information on the continent or country of origin, making reference to the population size, flag, language spoken etc, information on the instruments associated with this style of music, a definition of specific musical features used e.g. repetition, call and response, improvisation. *Please note that the following units of work alternate each year - your class teacher will inform you of the correct hmw for this unit* OR b) Using recyclable material, make a musical instrument associated with the unit of work being covered.

May - July 2016

Dance Music. Create and design an information sheet of your own choice on the musical features associated with Dance music. Your homework should include information on the development of Dance music - when and where it started, the musical instruments or computerised techniques used in Dance music, a description of specific techniques used in Dance music e.g. bpm, samples sounds, remix, mixing, break down. The different sections used in Dance music e.g. Intro, Verse, Chorus describing what each section is. Make reference, with a description on a specific genre of Dance music (your preferred choice) and a mini biography of a chosen musician/artist/group linked to Dance Music.
