CARIBBEAN CRUISE PROJECT

Congratulations on your new job as PROGRAM DIRECTOR of a major cruise line tour company. Your task is to design and market your own dream cruise. In this project you will need to plan your route, create an itinerary of fun and interesting activities, build your own cruise ship, and create promotional material for travel magazines. Attached is a list of Typical Cruise Passengers. Keep these people in mind when planning your itinerary. You must also consider, and respect, the cultures of the islands your ship will be visiting. The challenge is to create a cruise vacation that will make all your passengers happy, and a benefit to everyone involved.

Your package should contain the following components. Be sure to check the marking criteria page.

1. MAPCreate a map of the Caribbean and design a cruise route including five ports of call. You may select any PORT city as a starting place. The map should include a starting port and take the least cost path for the cruise.

2. TIMINGUse the scale on the map provided to measure the distance your ship will travel on the route from port to port. Estimate how long your cruise will be. Keep in mind that the average cruise ship travels at a speed of 23 knots (45km/h), Use the attached trip planner.

3. ITINERARYCreate and type up a step-by-step itinerary of your cruise that includes:-arrival and departure times from each PORT-3 activities/attractions to visit at each island-Activities and special events on the Cruise Ship (Keep in mind you will need to spend at least 8 hours at each port.)

4. ISLAND PROFILESA description of each island including: (125 words per island)-History-Language & Culture-Economy (what industries make money for each island)

5. CLIMATE GRAPHSCreate a climate graph for any 2 locations on your cruise. Use the attached Climate Graphs.

6. CONSTRUCTIONDesign and draw up the plans for your own dream cruise ship. Make a list of facilities, and then create the design using the included cruise ship cross-section.

Measure the following cruising distances (in km) and calculate the traveling times (in hours or days). Keep in mind that cruise ships travel at a speed of 45km/h. If cruising times are longer than 24 hours, convert the traveling time into DAYS.
