Meet and greet with a free cream tea
Julie and Peter England are the scheme administrators for the Carers Card. They want to meet carers at the Carers Centre to introduce themselves, and offer carers the opportunity to discuss where they would like to be able to use their carers card to obtain discounts. Beach Huts
Beach Huts at Alum Chine, Boscombe West or Sandbanks are available to book for the winter period from the beginning of October to the end of March 2017. Use of the beach huts is free. You can book up to three days, in a row or spread over the period. Bookings will be taken from 9am Tuesday 13th September, call the Carers Support Service on 01202 458204. All calls will go to answerphone on this day, please leave just one message.

No longer caring for someone? – please let us know
The Carers Reference Group would like to remind carers that are no longer caring for someone to let us know. You can stay on the Carers Information Service for 12 months if the person you cared for has passed away. Call The Carers Support Service on: 01202 458204 or email: [email protected] if the person you cared for lived in Bournemouth or [email protected] if the person you cared for lived in Poole.

You can also pay for the social events using online banking; you will be given the codes to use when we confirm your booking.
Payment must be received prior to the event.
If you will struggle to find the £5, we have funding for carers only from Westbourne Rotary Club and the Leonardo Trust. Ask for a ‘grant funded place’ when you book, there is no financial assessment; it is done on an ‘honesty box’ basis.
Should you wish to attend a third event, please check with us a week before that event to see if there is availability.

A trained peer volunteer advocate can visit you at home to listen, look into practical support options, help you to get information and make choices. They can also go with you to medical appointments. Contact Dorset Macmillan Advocacy on 0300 012 0256 or email [email protected]

Carers Concession Scheme
Access Dorset is a local charity that provides support to disabled people, older people and carers in Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset. We are currently working with the local councils to develop a concession scheme for carers. The scheme will allow carers to access leisure activities such as: the cinema, local attractions, leisure centres, museums etc. at a discounted rate. We are in the early stages of developing the scheme, and would really like to hear from you. We would like to know…. What leisure services you would like to see on the scheme? FREE Carers Support Programme with
Wednesday’s in October 2016 (5th, 12th, 19th & 26th) all 10am – 12pm. Held at St John Ambulance, Discovery Court, Wallisdown Road, Poole, BH12 5AG.
The course is over 4 weeks and topics include: Emergency First Aid, falls prevention, Dementia and stress management. Attendance is recommended on all dates.

Consultation on Day Services If the person you care for uses a day service run by Tricuro, all the day centres are holding consultation events throughout the summer. They want to get feedback and ideas about the services they provide. They should have let you know already, but sometimes information can get lost, or go un-noticed. If you would like to know more about this please contact the day service directly as the consultation events are on different days.
