More than half of the elderly living in the UK aged over 75 now live alone andfigures are growing year by year. Unlike many young people these days whochoose to live alone because of independence, empowerment or financial

rewards. For the elderly it can often be a sign of their weakening value to society.

For the minority of elderly people who choose to live by themselves, there arereports of acute loneliness. Though, as a society we are aware of the emotionalproblems of loneliness, there is also the potential of physical damage as well.

Many elderly people see their friends or families less than once a month and thatlack of social interaction can make old people more vulnerable to depression and

may lead to other problems. Asking for help can sometimes be awkward!!!

The silver line - is the only free 24 hour helpline which offers support to vulnerableolder people. They offer information, friendship, advice, direct callers to many

varied groups and services within their community.

Silver Line Friends someone to have a chat with! The caller receives a regularweekly friendship call.

If you know someone who is feeling lonely and would like a chat on the phone.

Talk to them about Silver Line. All calls are free and confidential.
