CAREERS IN HORTICULTURE Interior Landscape Training February 26 - April 16th, 2010 1pm to 5pm - Friday, 8 weeks Phelps Street Nursery 1150 Phelps St, San Francisco Next to the Southeast Community Center Developing Social and Professional Communities Vocational training programs by Careers in Horticulture, Inc (CiH) are offered to industry professionals, and are available without cost to residents of Bayview. Highly qualified professional instructors share their passion for horticulture, while opening pathways for career development. Trainees network with other working professionals serious about improving work skills and their credentials. Careers in Horticulture seeks to harnesses horticultural enterprise as an agent of change, with the potential to contribute substantively to the aspirations of Bayview resident’s for satisfying professional careers and personal fulfillment. We are located in a 120,000 square foot greenhouse behind the Southeast Community Center. Our multi-vectored approach to training and job placement draws attention to the Greenhouse as a community resource, and an access-point on a region-wide horticultural service industry. Residents of 94124 may qualify for scholarships. I N S T R U C TO R S :Lin Bowie has been an environmental professional for 30 years. She studied biology and natural resources management and holds a B.A. and a M.S. in those fields. Lin is currently an adjunct Instructor in the Horticulture and Biology Departments at the College of San Mateo where she teaches biology, horticulture, floristry and soils, and other classes. 

Mario J Vega is a Nursery Specialist with the San Francisco Park and Recreation Department assigned to the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park. Proficient in design, installation, watering, pest identification and prevention. Mario has managed service personnel and greenhouses for over 25 years.
