Structure of Examination• Basic qualification is graduation and age limit is 28

years.• Exam consist of two portions:

▫ 1100 marks is for written papers, while 300 is of interview.• Again written exam consists of 500 marks compulsory

papers, and 600 marks optional papers.

Some Commonly held Myths• Myth: For qualifying CSS, you have to be extremely intelligent.

▫ CSS is designed for an average mind. If you work hard you can excel in the exam.

• Myth: If your schooling is not from very hi-fi school, your chances are minimal.

▫ Experience shows that many candidates from rural background being taught in Govt. Schools, succeeded in CSS.

• Myth: If you don’t have a source, you cannot succeed.

▫ It is perhaps the most transparent and fair exam in the country up till now.

• Myth: If you are from Karachi, chances of selection are very low, as you have to compete from 2% quota.

▫ No perhaps the most easy sailing is for candidates from Karachi. Quota of Sindh (Urban) is 7% and is not being utilized fully for years, as the number of seats are more than qualified candidates.
