SAVANNAH STATE UNIVERSITY

• Savannah State University is a school located in southeast Georgia. It is a mid size college in the suburban area with 2,0000 to 5,000 undergraduate students every year.

• The fall application deadline is July 15,205

• To be accepted into Savannah a student must have a 2.3 GPA

• Must have 4 science 4 math 3 social science and 2 foreign language credits

• The standardized tests accepted by Savannah are the SAT and the ACT

• Majority of the students that are enrolled at Savannah are full time

• The in-state tuition is $3,249 per semester not including room and board and the out of state tuition is $9,502 per semester

CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATOR

• The job of a crime scene investigator is to collect and process physical evidence from a crime scene.

• Crime scene investigators will encounter disturbing and sometimes unbearable scenes.

• They work a regular 40 hour week which sometimes can feel long and be stressful.

• The average CSI can make anywhere from $30,000-$50,000 a year. CSI’s working for the federal government make over $90,000.

• CSI’s are sworn in as police officers.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE/SKILLS

• CSI’s typically study biology, chemistry and forensic science while in school.

• Degrees required to become a CSI is an associates or bachelors degree in law enforcement or criminal justice.

• Experience may vary depending on agency for civilian and law enforcement CSI positions.

EMPLOYERS PROMOTION PROJECTION

• Coroners offices crime laboratories police departments and morgues are the typical employers for CSI’s

• Moving to a CSI position with a larger law enforcement agency or agency of the federal government is considered advancing in this career.

• The BLS projects that there will be a 19% employment growth through 2020 that’s 14% more than the average growth for every career.

• Most of the growth will be driven by technological advances.
