Notes Cervical Orthosis CARE & USE GUIDE General Description There are many different types and styles of cervical orthoses (collars). They are commonly used for post surgical treatment, trauma care and neck muscle weakness. Application 1. Place the front panel of collar so your chin comes to the front edge of the chin piece. 2. Place the back panel behind your neck. Be sure the support strap is at the top. 3. Connect the Velcro on both sides and tighten. Tighten the support strap until it is comfortable. Wearing Schedule • Please follow your physician’s recommendations on the proper wearing schedule. Wearing schedule may vary depending on your diagnosis. Cleaning and Maintenance • Remove the orthosis as directed by your physician to clean your skin with soap and water. • Replace pads with clean ones if necessary. The pads are to be hand washed with soap and water, rinse and let air dry. Do NOT put the pads in the washer or dryer! • If you have a soft collar, remove the protective sleeve and machine wash and dry in a garment bag. Tips and Problem Solving • To remove, only un-strap one side of the orthosis to make reapplication simpler. • For ease of replacing pads in the correct location, it is recommended that you remove and replace one pad at a time. • Adjust the pads so the gray side grips the Velcro dots. The pads must cover all edges of the plastic. • To change the back pad, push the Velcro straps through the slits in the pad, and then through the slots in the outer edge of the plastic. • If you notice red marks, bruises or blisters on your skin, discontinue wearing the brace and call your orthotist to schedule an appointment for an adjustment.
