Introduction:

Looking back in the early times, it is undeniable that the discrimination of women was

prevalent because of the effect and influence of Spanish colonization in the Philippines. Menwere so dominant in the family, society and country to the extent of making women as mere

objects. The worth of women were measured through their capacity to give birth, to take care of

the children, to do household chores, to caress the husband and the like which demean their

very essence as subjects too. At some point, they were not even allowed to join the intellectual

discussions concerning the socio-political issues in the community for the reason that the

political system manifested strong patriarchal domain. That is to say, women before do not

possess the power and authority to interfere inasmuch as they would like to share their insights,

thoughts and views. Hence, women were not equally given importance just as the men were

because they were seen as weak, fragile and incapable of making a difference in the world.

INDUCTIVE REASONING is applicable in the ESSAY. Justify your claims.

C. Let us Move On (INTEGRATION)

Brief Discussion:

Gender and culture sensitivity are two important factors that affect the holistic formation of

human beings. These factors, if given equal significance like any others, can mold human

beings of what they should be, i.e., to grow as mature and responsible human persons.

However, these factors also allow human individuals to quest for what is true, good and

beautiful in one way or another. The more gender and culture sensitive they are, the more

appreciative they are of the wisdom behind every individual’s uniqueness despite of the many

differences like in talents, skills, socio-economic status, race, skin color, etc. Thus, it is a means

to break through the façade of prejudices towards one another.

• Sharing of ideas follows through a BRAINSTORMING ACTIVITY with at least 5

members in each group.

D. Truths to Remember (SUMMARY)

• Using your own words, summarize the lesson in 100 words ONLY by providing a

critique, or an evaluation, or an analysis of the ESSAY. It should be written in the

 journal notebook.
