Research and development must focus on harnessing a mineral industry that is more economically efficient and less environmentally destructive.
Mining operation and development at all times must guarantee environmental protection and safety.
We recognize the right of communities to
uphold their right to a sustainable and
productive environment.
We recognize the right of national
minorities, especially the lumad in the
Caraga region, to self-determination
through their genuine participation in
determining the use of and benefit from
the resources in their ancestral domain.
We actively support and join the initiatives of the organized and progressive peasant and lumad communities and other sectors of society in the Caraga region who aim to defend and protect the national patrimony, ancestral lands and the environment.
CARAGA WATCH
Advance the struggle of peasant and lumad communities and the entire Filipino people to a biologically diverse and ecologically sustainable and productive environment against foreign plunder of our ancestral lands and national patrimony!
Nationalize the mining industry! Protect the environment! Protect
our forests, land and water for the next generation!
Ensure an environmentally safe and ecologically sound development program, especially in the mining and agricultural sectors! Enforce strict compliance of government and industries to environmental conventions, laws and standards of practice!
Expose the anti-people character of the present concept and implementation of investment defense forces! Stop the recruitment of private armed security groups!
Strengthen our unity to support the lumad’s struggle for the recognition of their right to self-determination and protection of the ancestral land!
Stop the recruitment to the Task Force Gantangan – Bagani Force and other paramilitary groups!
Scrap the Mining Act of 1995! Scrap the IPRA!
An alliance of
organizations,
groups and
individuals united
on the issue of
defending
ancestral lands
and national
patrimony
against the
plunder and
destruction
wrought by
foreign and local
big mining and
other resource extraction businesses
and the protection of the environment
for the next generation.
We actively lobby for the repeal of the
Mining Act of 1995 and the IPRA.
Caraga Watch advocates that::
Mining industry must be nationalized and benefit the broadest masses of Filipinos.
Mineral production & development should help in modernizing agriculture within the framework of genuine agrarian reform.
Mining development shall be programmed in accordance with the availability of resources, without sacrificing the capability and well-being of the people and the environment.
