O'Grady.- CAREW O'GRADY, J.p. , Carrigmanus, Goleen, co. Cork; son of the Rev. Thomas O'Grady, and Susan Dowe ; born at Berehaven, May, 1850; educat ed privately, and at Conway. Justice of the Peace and County Grand Juror for co, Cork. Married, in 1884, Florence, fifth daughter of "J ames Hingston, of Aglish, co. Cork, and has issue surviving three sons and one daughter.
O·Keeffe. - EDWARD A. O'KEEFFE, Lotaville, Blackrock, co . Cork; son of the late Daniel Joseph O'Keeffe, of Blackrock; born at Blackrock, October 24th, 1863; educated at Queen's CoUege, Cork, and graduated Bachelor of Civil Engineering in the Royal University of Ireland; then entered the (now defunct) School of Engineering, Hanover Square, London, W., and started actual work with Siemens Bros., in their works at Charlton, where he remained during !the manufacture, and laying the Makay-Benn ett Cable, and before its completion was in charge of the Cable Testing Department, but resigned in order to t ake the position of Demonstrat or in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics at University College, Bristol, under Professor Silvanus P. Thompson ; remained there for one session, and on Professor Thompson being appointed Principal of the FinsburyTechnical College, London, he accompanied him there as second Demonstrator in the same department ; after five years was promoted to the post of Senior Demonstrator and' Lecturer on Electrical Engineering, which position he helel for over ten years. In 1900 was appointed H ead Science il1aster and Organising Secretary of Crawford Municipal Technical Institute, Cork, which position he still holds. I s a Member of the Institution of Elec trical Engineers; F ellow of the Physical Society of London. Has contributed articles for t echnical and other journals , and was Science Reviewer for one of the leading London papers, and the author of the Electricity and Magnetism in Cassell's Popldar Educator and Electrical Engineering series in Cassell's Technical Educator ; he also translated and revised Professor Weber's" Problems in Electricity and Magnetism" (Spon and Son).
