Introduction.

How to.

In Captain Cheddar it is the players task to get enough points to reach the ‘target score’ (this changes depending on the level you’re playing. For level 1 the target score is 1000 points, and for level 2 it is 1200 points.) before the timer runs out - the timer is dependent on the levels you play, for the first two levels the timer is 30 seconds long. To reach a target score.

Why ‘Captain Cheddar’?

The name ‘Captain Cheddar’ was brought to life with the original concept of a piece of cheese who is captain of a boat out in the centre of the ocean, captain cheddar’s aim is to grab as many ‘good fish’ as he possibly can, in order to transfer them into coins/points to get back home. This addictive arcade game contains several colourfully animated sea crea-tures from different sized fish; to Piranhas and Jellyfish which need to be avoided, which are all circulating around in the ocean. There is also the opportunity to collect bonus points from the treasure chest at the bottom of the sea floor. Captain Cheddar leaves the game user eager to return for more as the thrill of trying to dodge the ‘enemy’ fish kicks in, along with the sense of achievement when you do manage to gather enough points to pro-ceed to the next level. This game is teamed with an extremely catchy hook from the song ‘What shall we do with the drunken sailor?’ this fun but fitting song will be on repeat in your head even after the first time playing.

Strategy.Strategy Intro.Captain Cheddar, although simple does include a huge amount of strategy, the spawn points for the fish at the start of the game are the same every time, this means after analyzing the game you can work out which fish are going to be where in the game. Once you’ve caught a fish it is set to respawn automatically but at certain distances away from the visible part of the screen, this means from knowing this information you know how long it’s going to take before a cer-tain fish comes back onto the screen.

Spawn Points.Below is an image showing you the starting positions of all the characters, from looking at the spawn points for the fishes then it helps show you routes that you can take to catch the maximum amount of fish in the fastest time without hitting any of the bad fish. The speed the fish travel at also needs to be taken into account for knowing the whereabouts of each fish at different times within the game. The speed of the fish is determined on the size of the fish, smaller fish travel faster than bigger fish. The speeds of each fish is shown on the ‘Character’ section of this document.

Fish Scoring and Combinations.Whilst playing Captain Cheddar there’s two types of ‘good fish’ that cause two different scores. Small fish give you +50 points, and the big fish give you +100. This means you are going to need to catch this amount of fish to get the target score.

- Small fish - You will need to catch 20 small fish to reach a target score of 1000 or 24 small fish to reach a target score of 1200.- Big Fish - You will need to catch 10 big fish to reach a target score of 1000, or 12 to reach a target score of 1200.- 5x1 method - For every big fish you catch you will need to catch two small fish to get the same score, this means having to catch double the amount of fish for the same score, but there is 5 times more small fish on the screen swimming around compared to the big fish. The 5x1 method is simply try and catch 5 small fish then catch the big fish, this is be-cause by the time the big fish comes on the screen 5 small fish will have been on the screen before hand, using this method means having to follow a specific path. This is illustrated above. This tactic works with the movement of the boat.

CharactersLITTLE FISHThe little fish are small fish swimming around the sea, These little fish aren’t very intelligent, they’re slow reactors mean-ing they won’t see the hook heading straight for them giving you, the player, enough time to catch them. These little fish don’t change direction either, they keep their line in the game so you’ll always know where abouts to catch them. The yellow, blue, multicoloured and brown fish all move from right to left across the screen however, the pink fish moves left to right and is the only fish including bad fish to do that. all worth 50 points and spawn back at their starting spawn po-sition after they’re either caught, or gone off the screen. These fish will never stop spawning, so you’ll always have enough to catch.

Fish Speed The speed at which the fish move depend on their size, all these fish are ‘small fish’ but vary slightly in their shape and size, this means that to be able to catch these fish you have to judge by their speed on how fast they’re going to leave the screen. So if you have a slower fish at the top and a faster at the bottom then you have to go for the fast one first because it will be off the screen if you try catch the top one first. The speed of each fish is listed below.

! Blue fish - 111.4! ! ! Yellow fish - 99.3! ! ! Multicoloured fish - 105! !

! ! ! Pink fish - 99.4! ! ! ! Brown fish - 93.3

Big Fish. The Big fish you will see in game is a fish that has been alive a lot longer than the small fish, this means that it’s a lot slower, bigger and worth more than the small fish. The big fish are also a lot more rare than the small fish meaning it is only seen once for every time you see 5 small fish. the big fish moves at a speed of 84.3 and moves across the screen from right to left. This fish also spawns only near the bottom of the screen after its first spawn (which is in the middle). This means when trying to catch this fish you run the risk of catching bad fish, to bypass this risk, you have to time 2 seconds after it leaves the screen or you catch it before hand which is the time it takes to come back onto the screen, and from looking at the spawn position you will be able to know where it will be.

Jelly Fish. The jellyfish is the meanest fish in that area, there's many of them and they'll happily try to ruin the players day. They'll decrease the players score by 40 points which can make a large dent in the score board at the time. Their speed is 69.3, even though they're one of the slower kind, there's 3 of the jelly fish swimming around the screen at one time. The player will need to look at the spawn points and route pattern in the illustration on the ‘Strategy’ page above.

Piranha. The Piranha looks a lot like the little fish so the player must be careful, the player cannot catch him because he'll decrease the players score by 20 points, his angry temper scares many of the other fish, they keep far away from him and leave him bobbing around near the surface of the water. His speed is 123.5 so he's a little faster than most of the fish in that area. Because of his speed, this means he is always getting in the way, the player will have to remember that every time the pira- nha goes off the screen that they have 1 second be- fore another one is on the

screen.

Treasure Chest. The treasure chest is a bonus object laying static at the bottom of the sea floor as a reward for dodging all those measly Piranhas and Jellyfish. However, this prize does not come easy, getting the fishing hook all the way to the bottom of the sea floor safely is a tricky task and without a direct glance, some players might not notice the treasure chest, as it is tucked in the corner of the screen partially covered in seaweed. But once you have managed to collect it you will be rewarded with a helpful total of 30 points. There is a jellyfish that swims a line on the same Y axis that the treasure chest is at, this means once the jelly fish has passed the player has 2.5 seconds before the jellyfish comes back to that position (on top of the treasure chest).

Captain Cheddar.

Captain Cheddar is located at the top of the screen sitting on his boat that bobs left to right across the screen continually until the timer has stopped. The speed of Captain Cheddar and his boat is 100 and cannot be changed. This can prove quite difficult for new players because they might try and move the boat. Captain Cheddars kind nature doesn't dwell well with the Piranhas or the jellyfish, they enjoy ruining Cheddars fish line. Captain Cheddar likes to try extra hard to avoid all of the bad fish but with that needs help from the player to succeed in doing so. It takes Captain Cheddar’s boat 2.3 seconds to get from one side of the screen to the other, if you hold the hook to go all the way to the bottom of the screen the hook will get to the seafloor by the time he is in the middle of the screen, using this you can judge how long it will take to catch which fish and if it’s possible to catch certain fish if they’ve gone past your hook.

Conclusion.

From the use of the information in this walkthrough it should help you gain higher scores and give you the edge compared to others who haven’t read this and give you the ability

to master Captain Cheddar and help him on his sea adventure.
