Don North has been named chair of Carrollwood Day School’s Blueprint for the Future capital campaign. Don takes over the helm from a very dedicated Gregory Ghodsi, who steps down after seeing the campaign to its current $3.1M raised. Greg will continue to be involved as a member of the capital campaign steering committee. “This natural transition comes as we enter a new phase of this important campaign,” says Scott Price, Chair of the Board of Trustees, “when a secure groundwork has been laid to put our Master Plan in motion. We are extremely grateful for Greg Ghodsi’s leadership to launch the Blueprint for the Future capital campaign and the outpouring of support from everyone who has already donated to this campaign.” Mary Kanter, Head of School, adds, “Greg’s expertise and leadership brought CDS to a new plateau of development and Don takes over the reins at a time when it is essential that we continue to raise the funds needed to complete Phase One of our Master Plan” Blueprint for the Future was launched in Fall 2007 to enable construction of a new elementary school campus and renovation of the auditorium wing to convert the original open “sanctuary” space into a functional theater, fine arts studios, and high school classrooms. Due to the faltering economy that followed shortly thereafter, the steering committee made the difficult decision to not proceed aggressively with the Blueprint for the Future campaign in order to respect the extraordinary circumstances some of our families and friends were experiencing. Instead, we chose to embark in an initial “quiet” phase of the campaign and were able to raise over $3M that allowed us to secure financing and begin work on these vitally needed improvements to the Bearss Avenue campus. Although some economic challenges linger, our future is upon us. The campus is alive with growth, the high school classes have moved into their new spaces, the auditorium renovations are well underway, and the new elementary school is rising before our very eyes. Now is the time to realize the Blueprint for the Future vision. CAPITAL CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE Don North Chair Rachel Behuniak Kelly Crow Charlotte Embody Greg Ghodsi Jim Kerkvliet Daniel C. FOLLOW OUR PROGRESS!

The clock that is being used to track our progress serves as a reminder that there is a critical need to raise the funds to complete these projects NOW. Our Master Plan can no longer be on our “Wish List.”

Thank you to our early donors who have provided the foundation to assure the success of our

Blueprint for the Future Campaign.

(Diagram represents gifts through 9/6/2011)

WHAT IS OUR CURRENT NEED?

Through the diligence and hard work of our Board of Trustees and financial team, CDS has successfully secured financing from TD Bank. This funding enabled us to begin work on our much needed construction projects prior to finishing our capital campaign fund raising. However, this is merely a bridge loan and we must continue to raise money in order to completely fund all of our construction projects. Our overall need remains $10M with a June 30, 2012 requirement to achieve $1.5M in new pledges.

If you have not yet had an opportunity to make your gift, we hope that you are already contemplating your gift and when asked, you will respond generously and promptly.

BEHIND-THE-SCENES TOUR

As school prepared to open, roughly 75 guests were treated to tours of the new high school and auditorium led by project architect, Peter Hepner. Visitors toured the wide hallways ready for the delivery and installation of the new lockers, the bright and spacious new classrooms, and the student lounge area overlooking the atrium taking full advantage of the huge windows on either end. Jeff DeBosier also led some of the attendees across the current 4th and 5th grade porch for a view of the elementary school. A full tour of the elementary school was not possible given current construction conditions, but the impressive

amount of progress was clearly evident. Following the tours, guests were treated to cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the atrium. While mingling they were able to look over the color and fabric palette, the new auditorium seat sample, and the master plan model. The attendees even left with a little dust on their shoes to remember the evening by!

MESSAGE FROM DON NORTH, CAPITAL CAMPAIGN CHAIR

Dear CDS Parents and Friends,

Eight years ago, CDS welcomed my family with open arms, and since then, Emily and I continue to be amazed and grateful for all of the opportunities CDS offers our two girls, Elizabeth and Gretchen. I believe strongly in the mission of our school and I’m proud to be part of the Blueprint for the Future steering committee and a new member of the Board of Trustees.

Under the leadership of Dan Peek, former chair of the Board of Trustees and Greg Ghodsi, former chair of the Blueprint campaign, and through the many efforts of CDS staff and parent volunteers, we’ve made great progress raising funds for this important project. We are most fortunate and appreciative that this broad base of

dedicated leaders and volunteers will continue their work on the steering committee as the new school year begins.

In order to meet the critical needs of our growing enrollment and programming, and based on the strong reputation and financial stability of our school, we were able to secure bank financing that allowed us to commence construction before raising all the funds needed for the first phase of our campus improvements. While the first phase of construction will be completed this fall, our debt obligation and the associated financing covenants must be fulfilled. Our overall need remains $10M with a June 30, 2012 requirement to achieve $1.5M in new pledges. It is imperative that we intensify our efforts to not only meet this commitment, but to create the 21st century learning environment that our children deserve. With that said, I’m confident that we can surpass this goal and use those additional monies to begin work on the next step in the master plan - our gymnasium.

Many families have already extended their generous support and the committee is eager to broaden the base of those who believe in this important endeavor. Private institutions like CDS provide each of us, as parents and stakeholders, with a voice in the direction of the organization; and with that voice comes a responsibility to support the institution’s continued growth and stability. I’m asking all those who have not yet participated in this important campaign to do so now.

If you have any questions or comments about the campaign or would like to arrange a meeting to discuss our goals in more detail and how you can help, please feel free to contact me anytime by phone or email at (813) 503-1899 [email protected] or Dawn Schweitzer, Director of Admissions and Development, at [email protected].

Let’s all join together and capture this moment of growth, finishing Phase One of the Master Plan and strengthening the educational opportunities for our children. It promises to be an exciting and fruitful experience for us all.

With warmest regards to you and your family,

Don NorthChair, Blueprint for the Future

Since the 2011-12 academic year marks Carrollwood Day School’s 30th anniversary -- a time to celebrate both new beginnings as well as past accomplishments -- there is no better time to take the next step towards CDS’ future. We want to show appreciation to those who have gotten us where we are today, share the CDS story with our newest families, and update all of our friends about the exciting things in store for our school.
