I hope you had an awesome Spring Break and that you are well rested and

ready to finish the year strong. The school year is winding down, but these next

two months are extremely important. We have several testing sessions, school events, and

a number of exciting activities to look forward to. Please be sure that you are aware of your

all of your testing dates as we have quite a few that are upcoming, including AP, IB, Florida

Standards Assessments, and EOC’s. While this is an important and sometimes stressful time,

we will also take some time to have fun and recognize the many great accomplishments that

our students and teachers have made. We recently held a breakfast to reward students with a

first semester GPA of 4.0 or higher and we will soon have Senior Week, Grad Bash, Prom,

Senior Awards Nights, and several other fun events that will lead up to graduation. Make

sure to look out for all of this information in the coming days. In order to make your

high school experience a positive and memorable one, it is really important to get

involved in all that we have to offer.

Music Department News

This year’s All County Jazz Band had a STELLAR performance. It was possibly the best All County Jazz Ensemble that we have had in many years. Seahawk Dannah Dolorfino did a fantastic job and was recognized for a solo. Three CCHS Flutists recently performed their solos at the State Solo and Ensemble festival for a judge. Maddy Aubuchon, Dannah Dolorfino, and Emily VanDyke all came home with Superior ratings! Emily snagged Superior with DISTINCTION for playing her piece from memory and not a single memory slip.

Fundraiser Four IB seniors and Mr. Reimer worked together to host the First Annual Seahawk Walk a Thon. This fundraiser will benefit various clubs, sports, and programs here at CCHS. At press time, they have raised just over $8500!

FBLA State Competition FBLA had a wonderful time at the State Competition in Orlando. Junior, Chris Samuels, won 1st place in Agribusiness! There were over 5,000 students (not including chaperones and adults) in attendance and 35 competed in Chris’ category.

Excellence in Science Conor Dougherty recently attended the Kiwanis Luncheon in Fort Myers for students displaying excellence in regards to the science fair projects. Conor earned the top mark at the Thomas Alva Edison Regional Science Fair this past January in his category and will be representing Cape High at the statewide science fair later this month.

Step Competition

In March, the BLUE PRINT step team participated in a step competition at Dunbar and won second place!

SGA Talent Show In March, SGA hosted its annual talent show. It was a really great program, and the kids did a phenomenal job. All of the acts were great, but the night’s winners were:1. Daniela Barata (Dancing)2. Julie Nguyen & Tony Nguyen (Singing)3. Amanda Garner (Singing and playing piano)

Other participants included: Noah Burns, Levi Masters, Brianna Katin, Karina Valencia, Tahiah Heger, Nick Bryan, Leo Contrucci, Alyssa bell, Lily Daum, Rose Lee, Andrew Fiechter, Matthew Meunier, and Nate West. Performing in front of your peers is very nerve wracking, but all of these kids were very brave and did an awesome job. The SGA students did a great job putting together the show. They really took ownership of the show and were hands on taking care of most aspects. A special thanks to Mrs. Matos, Ms. Koehler, Mrs. Medina, Ms. Canada, and Mrs. Dominguez for their help at the show! – Ms. Morgan, sponsor

Teen Trendsetters The Teen Trendsetter reading mentors participated in Read Across America Day on March 4th at Pelican Elementary. The mentors did read-alouds of Dr. Seuss books for all grade levels and judged the door-decorating contest. They even ran into CCHS alumni Nate Allen who was supporting the event as well!

Regional Math Competition In March, CCHS hosted a Regional math competition on the FGCU campus that attracted hundreds of students from schools along the west coast of Florida. This was our third and final competition of a regular competition season that has been challenging to say the least. During January and February our students saw their State Ranking drop for the first time in several years as they found their opponents were much better prepared than they had been in past years. Luckily, we turned it around at just the right time. We not only saw several awards from our students, but our State Ranking leapt up from 39th (barely qualifying for the state tournament) to 22nd (Among the top 10%).

Highlights of our Results:Overall School Ranking: 6th place• Calculus Overall: 6th Place• Precalculus Overall: 6th Place• Statistics Overall: 6th Place• Algebra II Overall: 6th PlaceIndividual Winners:Top 15 win awards:• Algebra II: Tori Molloy—4th Place• Precalculus: Ethan Howe—12th PlaceTop 10 win awards:• Statistics: Brooke Ciccone—6th PlaceWe also had several students break into the top 20, but fall short of awards.• Calculus—Anan Quan and Ray Huang (tied for 18th)• Statistics—Vivian Garcia (15th )

S The wrestling team ended the season on a high note by sending Chris DePaola to the State Tournament held in Kissimmee, FL. He won 2 and lost 2 during the tournament and beat ranked wrestlers along the way. However, he came up one match away from placing in the top 6. Congratulations on an outstanding season! The team is looking good, with a lot of young talent coming back for next season. Be ready for them to make some noise. If you are interested in joining the high school team, the offseason practices are going on now and you need to have your physical turned in to participate. Also, if anyone is interested in the Cape Coral Youth Wrestling Program, we are currently offering sessions for kids in grades k-8th. No experience is needed. Please see Coach Elliott for more details. You can contact him by email as well:[email protected]
