Objectives
– To further support & strengthen the MNS Sabah Branch's participation in conserving Pulau Ular of Labuan as a potential site of IBA.
– To support the regional & Sabah State's implementation of the Heart of Borneo (HoB) initiative by carry out inventory & monitoring of birds in ICCA.

• ICCA has not been identified as IBA

• A Workshop on Conservation of Pulau Ular, Labuan had been organized on 7th April 2018 at Zara's Boutique Hotel, Harbour City, Kota Kinabalu.
• 20 participants had attended the workshop
• We plan to call for stakeholders meeting & site visit to Pulau Ular, Labuan in July 2018, unfortunately it has to be postponed to a later, unfix date. Due to unforeseen circumstances.
– Changing of stakeholders management & the restructuring in federal government dept in Labuan.
– Mother Nature’s call: storm & rough sea.

• Permit & access licence had been approved by ICMC & SaBC, respectively (valid from 1st Dec 2018 for a period of 12 mths).
• Recce to ICCA, Sg. Kangkawat had been carried out.
– Took part in the Borneo Geographic Expedition, Sg Kangkawat, ICCA
Borneo Geographic Expedition 2018, Sg Kangkawat, Imbak Canyon Conservation Area on 28th Sept – 9th Oct 2018 – participated by Chairman Anna, Syamimi & Annabel.

Objectives
– To assist & strengthen the role & participation of MNS Sabah in forest, biodiversity-related platform
– To develop human resources for MNS Sabah
– To initiate & contribute for HoB initiatives/project
– To strengthen policy & push for certification of oil palm plantation (MSPO) & forestry sector (MTCC/FSC)
– To support MNS Sabah Branch project & activities
– To solicit fund for MNS Sabah
Project Progress
• To contribute in forestry & biodiversity-related platforms
– Recent HoB conference has been postponed to next year.
– Proposal on Human-elephant Conflict was submitted to HQ for further action.
– MNS Sabah Chairman, Anna Wong is appointed as member in Human-elephant conflict taskforce lead by Sabah Wildlife Department
• To contribute in forestry & biodiversity-related platforms
– Obtained access licence from SaBC & research permit from ICMC (valid from 1st Dec 2018).
– Draft for threatened birds of Sabah checklist - in progress
– 1 article about otter distribution within riparian reserves in SAFE project area had been submitted to MNS Naturalist.
• Human resources (enhance capacity building)
– 1 full-time (Nur Syamimi) & 1 part-time staff (Annabel Pianzin) had been employed
– Syamimi had participated in National Improving Forest Governance Course (CIDT Training) on 2nd - 8th Sept 2018 at Awana Genting Highlands.

– Attended the 3rd International Symposium on The Conservation & Management of Wetlands 2018 on 25th -26th Sept 2018 at Shangri-la's Tg. Aru Resort & Spa, KK • Mr Muthu (was invited as a panel) & Syamimi as
a participant.
• Human resources (enhance capacity building)
– Participated in the 7th International Workshop on Tropical Biodiversity Conservation Focusing on Large Animal Studies on 16th - 20th Oct 2018 • Anna Wong had presented a paper 'The
population & distribution of Macaque (Macaca fascicularis) at Padang Teratak, Sabah'
• Annabel had presented a poster.

– Anna Wong had attended MNS Council Meeting on Oct 2018 presented quarterly report of Sabah Branch
– Bird Watching at Kinabalu Park & Members gathering at Mesilau on 1st - 2nd Dec 2018 (Capacity building for members).
– Membership: increased (68 members as for now)
• Strengthen policy & push for certification of Oil Palm plantation & forestry sector
– Recently, 1 member of MNS Sabah had obtained the licence as a lead auditor for MSPO.
Future Planning • To focus on public awareness &
environmental education about Pulau Ular and surroundings.
• Bird survey in ICCA will be carried out soon.
• More activities & programs will be initiated (promoting membership)
• Push for certification of oil palm plantation (MSPO) & forestry (MTCC/FSC) will be initiated
