Who we are

RAW Recruitment and Services (RAW) is a rapid-growth, privately owned and operated, recruitment group training and labour hire business with offices in Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

RAW has built its reputation as a specialist Aboriginal labour hire company with a consistent track record of providing quality recruitment and supply of labour solutions.

RAW works with the full spectrum of construction and technical skills; from labour and skilled trade operatives to professional staff and site management.

We currently supply a wide-ranging client base nationally in commercial, industrial, civil and residential works. Our personnel work in partnership with our clients, and our service is tailored to meet the needs of each individual partner agency or company.

We offer both short and long-term solutions, from temporary supply through to long-term placements and sole supplier retained contracts.

Group training

As an extension of RAW labour hire, RAW also supports specialist industry and sector growth by promoting, recruiting and supporting apprentices through our group training arm.

Recent projectsTullamarine T4 MLS Melbourne

This project is part of a package of new facilities works designed to ensure that Melbourne Airport can meet increasing demand in the domestic aviation market.

Scope of work: provision of labour hire and apprentices Client: CPB Contractors

Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal Melbourne

The Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal is a $1.6 billion project to eliminate nine dangerous and congested level crossings by using an elevated rail design. The project also includes five new stations to be built at Carnegie, Murrumbeena, Hughesdale, Clayton and Noble Park, and upgraded signaling and power along the corridor.

Scope of work: provision of gatekeepers, labourers, leading hands, machine operators, spotters, skilled construction labourers and tradespeople.

Clients: joint venture – CPB Contractors and Lendlease

Airport Terminal Expansion Darwin

The $75M project has improved the airport’s ability to handle passengers during peak periods thanks to a bigger arrivals and departures area, six additional boarding gates, more space for security screening and three new aircraft parking bays. The terminal floorspace has increased to from 16,000m2 to 27,000m2 while the airport apron was extended by 15,000m2.

Scope of work: provision of labour hire

Correctional Precinct Darwin

The construction of a $500M multi-classification prison with a capacity of 1,048 prisoners of all security ratings. The centre was completed in 2014 and is the main reception prison in the Northern Territory, servicing most of the northern and metropolitan regions.

Northern Connector Adelaide

The $885M Northern Connector will be a six-lane, 15.5km motorway providing a vital freight and commuter link between the Northern Expressway, South Road Superway and Port River Expressway.

The Australian Government has committed $708M to the project, with $177M from the South Australian Government. The project is scheduled for completion in late 2019.

Scope of work: provision of traffic managements services, labourers, machine operators, spotters, skilled construction labourers, steel fixers and pre-casting, tradespeople. Client: Lendlease

North Terrace Tram Line Adelaide City

The South Australian Government has committed $80M in funding for the first stage of the AdeLINK tram network to the city’s East End. The project delivers a one-kilometre extension along North Terrace, from King William street to East Terrace and an extension along King William Road to the Adelaide Festival Plaza precinct.

Scope of work: provision of traffic management services.Clients: Downers and York Civil Joint Venture.

Gateway South Darlington Adelaide

The Darlington Upgrade Project is another important stage in the delivery of Adelaide’s North-South Corridor, and will deliver an upgrade of approximately 3.3km of the existing Main South Road and create a non-stop motorway between the Southern Expressway and Tonsley.

The $620M project is jointly funded by the Australian and South Australian governments ($496M federally funded and $124M state funded). It is due to be completed in 2019.

Scope of work: provision of traffic management, labour hire, spotters, and skilled construction workers. Client: Fulton Hogan

Leadership teamChief Executive Officer Allan Jones

Allan Jones is a descendant of the Narungga nation from the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. His extended family expands across the Northern Territory, Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia.

Allan has over 20 years’ experience managing and coordinating jobs and training projects for Aboriginal people nationally.

Managing Director Christian Gaylard

Christian Gaylard has over 20 years’ experience in the civil and construction industry and over 10 years supporting Aboriginal job-seekers to successful transition from long-term unemployment into employment.

His extensive knowledge of civil, construction and trade training enables clients to install up to date corporate knowledge and skills prior to entering the workplace.

Chief Finance Officer Rene Vodegel

René Vodegel is a qualified accountant with over 23 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, as well as having run his own consulting firm.

Within the public sector his roles included Treasury and Management accounting within the portfolios of Education, Further Education, Employment and Premier and Cabinet. His private sector experience includes the construction, meat processing and retail industries.

René holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Flinders University with a major in Accounting and minors in Business Law and Finance. A member of CPA Australia, he is currently undertaking an MBA. René sits on a number of not-for-profit community organisation boards and is heavily involved in the ice sports community.

Programs Manager Jan McCalman

Jan McCalman has a long history of establishing and promoting economic responses to address entrenched exclusion, racism and disadvantage. Jan sees people as a resource not a deficit, and her projects are designed from that core value. She uses her deep understanding of the community, government and commercial sectors to establish credibility and trust.

With an extensive resume of innovative projects, she challenges funders, decision makers and power brokers to confront their inhibition and enjoy the ride. This robust approach has resulted in many quality outcomes for job seekers and the communities she works with. Jan lives in CBD Melbourne but has roots in regional Victoria and New South Wales, where she grew up and her family live.

Government Training Organisation Operations Robbie Lloyd Peden

Robbie is an ex-professional boxer and world champion, Known as “Bomber”, Robbie was awarded Aboriginal Queenslander of the year for his outstanding commitment to community and achievements through sport.

He is passionate about supporting apprentices from start to finish through building and maintaining open and transparent relationships with all key stakeholders to ensure success.

Operations Manager – Vic/Qld Rebecca Zahra

Rebecca was born in raised in Melbourne and has held many positions within the civil construction, commercial maintenance, recruitment, training and employment sectors.

She brings a fast thinking, can-do solutions focus to RAW’s day-to-day operations management, compliance, scheduling, reporting, employee communication and client liaison.

Rebecca has a strong commitment and track record of successfully placing people within employment and provides valuable oversight of the systems and functions required of a rapid growth company such as RAW.

Operations Manager - SA/NT Jason Rae

Jason Rae is a descendant of the Narungga/Kaurna nations and grew up in Whyalla. Jason has had over 20 years’ experience in the mining, commercial fisheries, civil construction, recruitment and labour hire sectors.

Business Development Manager Rus Nasir

Rus Nasir is a descendant of the Djugan nation (Broome), and has worked for 25 years within the business, government, political and higher education sectors.

He holds a degree in psychology/law, and brings extensive experience in, and commitment to, developing businesses and organisations that display strong social and economic inclusion principles and deliver real outcomes.
