Morson Projects offer a complete design, development and manufacturing service to the

world’s leading military and commercial aerospace organisations.

From lightweight composite structures to complete systems integration, Morson Projects

engineering teams work independently, or in partnership with our client's existing project

delivery teams, to provide comprehensive support throughout design, development,

manufacturing and finally, into service.

Morson Projects have developed high quality solutions for the aerospace industry

throughout all project phases from structural design concept through to "manufacturing

detail", including the integration of systems, stress analysis, tooling design & manufacture

and production support.

Morson Projects provides a complete range of nuclear engineering services from Concept

Design to complete Engineering Solutions through to total Project Implementation. Morson

Projects range of cost effective engineering, design and support services are provided to a

wide range of nuclear clients with interests in operational plant and site infrastructure

upgrades, fuel manufacture, fuel processing, waste management, decommissioning, fusion

research, and on-site facility support and asset care.

The engineering services provided operate across a variety of industrial sectors giving the

added advantage of bringing to the client ‘best practices’ that have been developed in other

industries and with its own in depth experience in the nuclear industry effects a confidence

Morson Projects provides engineering consultancy services to the manufacturing and

process industries. Our proven experience allows us to serve a diverse range of industry

clients, including those working in: bulk chemicals, household goods, food processing and

agrochemicals. Operating in a true multi-disciplined engineering and technical environment

allows Morson Projects to provide total project delivery solutions.

Our scope of operation covers end to end production process support from concept,

process design, detailed design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, upgrade/de-

bottlenecking and decommissioning. Morson Projects also provide consulting services,

process assessments, asset care, feasibility studies, technology evaluations and in-process

troubleshooting.

Morson Projects actively apply best practice from the sectors and industries that we operate

in. This results in a very lean design and project management process, thereby increasing

the value for our clients, utilising the latest 3D laser scanning, CAD tools and programme

management methodologies.

Within the UK, electricity demand is growing, and placing increasing demands on existing

transmission and distribution systems. National and regional electricity companies and

major industrial consumers are embarking on major refurbishment projects to replace aged

primary plant, protection and control systems.

The activities of the Power Engineering team cover all aspects of Electrical Engineering from

Transmission and Distribution switchgear to the engineering design of full protection

refurbishments and modifications.

Ensuring full compliance with the customer’s site safety rules, CDM rules, UK legislation and

of course our Health, Safety and Environment policies, Morson Projects engineers are

National Grid competent personnel.

Our installation and commissioning department provides a comprehensive Power

Protection, Control System Installation and Commissioning service.

The solution covers the Installation and Commissioning of transformers, switchgear and

protection relay panels for transmission and distribution power systems up to 400kV

including gas insulated and open terminal equipment.


4. Capabilities

Morson Projects has been successfully delivering Aerostructures Design and Stress Analysis

projects for major European, military and civil aerospace manufacturers over the last 30

years. Today Morson Projects provides the complete in-house solution, from project

management, to initial concept design through to final certification support, together with

associated configuration management.

The Aerospace Structures – Design and Stress Analysis team has the ability to provide

support at all levels, from complete project management and project delivery to a single

project activity, such as concept design or analysis.

The range of skills available can be brought together to form multi-disciplined teams with

the experience to deliver, utilising cutting edge tools such as Catia, FiberSIM and Enovia to

interface with the client, on or off site.

The Aerospace Structures team retains the services of skilled designers and engineers,

covering the disciplines of the Structures Design, Stress Analysis, Electrical and Systems

Installation. Applications include: Composite & Metallic Structures, Furnishings, Weight &

Mass Control, Detail Stress Analysis, Check Stress & Type Record Preparation and Dynamic

analysis.

Morson Projects offers an extensive systems engineering capability into the Aerospace

Industry. Multi-disciplined Systems Engineering teams provide expertise throughout the

design life-cycle from R&T to in-service support. Morson Projects deliver quality design,

analysis, verification, and system integration solutions.

Working in close partnership with its clients, Morson Projects offers solutions, including:

landing gear systems, flight controls, hydraulic system assemblies, hydro-mechanical,

electrical, fuel and other systems for both civil and military aircraft.


The Morson Projects Stress Analysis team consists of multi-disciplined engineering

specialists. It is one of the largest stress and structural analysis teams in the UK. It provides

support to the Morson Projects core capability and project groups delivering a

comprehensive structural analysis service. Tasks undertaken include static (linear and non-

linear) analysis, fatigue & damage tolerance through to multi-body dynamics.

Within the team are specialists with extensive experience in the design and assessment of:

Civil and military aircraft

Rail and road vehicles

Building structures

Process equipment and pipelines

Analysis considers current design codes utilising the latest versions of software packages

including: PATRAN, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, ANSYS, NASGRO, CAESAR II, MATHCAD and PSA5.

The team prides itself in working closely with clients to develop solutions to technical

problems that are cost effective. The strong project management ethos ensures that

projects run as planned.

The team operates in a quality assured environment, with state of the art engineering tools

and continues to provide a complete analytical solution.

Morson Projects Tooling Design and Manufacturing department is built around a core team

that specialises in the complete project management of complex tooling projects for clients

across many industries.

The experience and skills retained within the team is demonstrated by the diverse range of

projects undertaken in the following industries: Aerospace, Automotive and General

Engineering.

The Tooling team delivers solutions to industry including: major assembly jigs for wing,

fuselage, and flight control surfaces, test rigs, general machine shop tooling for aerospace &

non-aerospace components, special purpose machine design, automotive transfer lines,

operational tooling, composite aircraft tooling, aircraft and industrial turbine blade tooling.


Morson Projects Manufacturing Engineering team provides manufacturing solutions tailored

to meet the client's requirements and technical specifications. The team brings many years

of experience gained from working with and providing solutions to the major manufacturers

in all sectors of the production environment.

The Manufacturing Engineering team offers both off-load capacity and on-site engagements

to support the client's requirements.

Working at the forefront of manufacturing industries, Morson Projects Manufacturing

Engineering team delivers: Advanced Composite Manufacturing Philosophies, Flow-line

Assembly Planning, Detail Manufacturing Planning, Power plant & Systems Installation,

Electrical planning, Automation, Lean Manufacturing and Aircraft Interior Installation

planning in both generic or client based software.

Morson Projects Manufacturing Engineers demonstrate excellent problem solving abilities,

specific to Engineering and Manufacturing environments with high production rates and

protracted schedules.

The Project Management team comprises of professional project managers that utilises a

Prince 2 based system for the planning, organising and the managing of resources to achieve

the successful completion of project goals and objectives. The team manages the project

from design to implementation, and interfaces with the client until the project is completed

and accepted by the client.

Morson Project recognises that the success of any project depends upon the presence of a

robust project management structure. In recent years, Morson Project has made

considerable investment in personnel, infrastructure and systems to improve its project

management capabilities.

Morson Projects has developed its own bespoke management toolsets covering cost

control, HR, document control, programme & portfolio management, and these toolsets are

subject to continuous improvement including lessons learned. The next phase of

development is the integration of the systems into a single enterprise solution providing

instant access and reporting for the project and senior managers, and also secure access for

the client to enable them to view the project metrics remotely.


5. Resource

The Morson Projects Aerospace and Defence Division is over 250 team members strong as

portrayed in Figure 1 below we can provide our clients with a suitably qualified and

experienced multi-functional team. In addition to our team we have the ability to network

with, identify and recruit suitably qualified and experienced professional engineers and will

ensure that appropriate levels of capable industry experienced resource will be secured.

Project Title Low Pressure Ducting Design

Detailed Description of the Project

Morson Projects provided a team of engineers based on-site at AV Support to design the

low pressure ducting system for the COMAC C919. Morson Projects responsibilities included

the design maturation of distribution, recirculation and extraction sub-systems to a DDP

standard.

Morson Projects have also supported AV Support on the Interior low pressure ducting for

the Bombardier Global 7000/8000 from CDR through the DFM Phase. Morson Projects

responsibilities included design of the above floor distribution and extraction systems to

suite varying customer configurations.


Project Title Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation MRJ-200 Aircraft – Low

Pressure Ram Air and Pack Outlet Ducting System

Morson Projects was responsible for refining the Low Pressure Ducting System design which

includes the ECU ducting such as Ram Air and Pack Outlet, integral; soft/hard couplings,

flanges, mounting and reinforcing brackets and instrumentation bosses.

This included the ECU ducting such as Ram Air and Pack Outlet, integral; soft/hard couplings,

flanges, mounting and reinforcing brackets and instrumentation bosses.

Morson Projects provided the composite layup, detail

and assembly drawings.

Morson Projects also performed the appropriate

analysis taking into account interface loads and

displacements, operating, proof and burst pressures

combined with deflection to determine optimum

material selection and constructions and supplied the

appropriate stress reports. The NACA Scoops were

designed to incorporate features that allowed lightning strike protection via metallic alloy

mesh and inner surfaces coated with an anti-static coating.

Morson Projects designed GFRP Ducts and with Machined Support Brackets and fabricated

stiffeners in line with installation and stress requirements supported by detailed tolerance

studies. Detail ply layup and ply book requirements were also generated using Fibersim

composite manufacturing simulation software.


Project Title Learjet 85 Low Pressure Ducting design & analysis and integration

Morson Projects engineers took the Learjet 85 ducting schemes from A scheme through to

DFM.

This involed the devoloping of the ducting, routing

and mounting of the system within the cockpit and

fusealage.

The team were reponsible for design maturation

of the ducts to ensure adequte airflow while

maintaing clearances in a highly congested

environment, to achieve the requirments of the system. The space allocation models where

taken and matured in line with the manufacturing capabilites.

The team were also reponsible for all the

mounting brackets and system supports for the

ducting.

This involved a very close working relationship

between design, stress and the manufacturing

team which was essential in order to achieve

schedule deadlines.

Morson Projects also have a wealth of experience with composites, additionally to the

systems ducting they were also responsible for.

Over 4000 ply boundaries were generated using Fibersim on a Catia v5 Platform and Enovia

PDM system to control and release data.


The composite fuselage is a hybrid lay-up

incorporating Sandwich core structures,

monolithic structures and a mixture of

carbon fibre out of autoclave (OOA)

material, including; plain weave, 8 harness

and uni-directional tape.

Project Title Learjet 85 Pressure Fuselage ‘A’ Scheme

Morson Projects created an interface model for each Module (4 major) containing the

following:

OML surfaces (already generated by Learjet configuration group)

Interfacing surfaces/Penetrations

Panel/Door EOP

Cut-out EOP

Morson Projects generated GFEM using the information above and a generic lay-up for

aircraft/module and input into GFEM.


Project Title Learjet 85 Pressure Fuselage ‘B’ Scheme

Morson Projects undertook the following activities during ‘B’ Scheme:

Generated basic guidelines.

- Composite, Metallic, machining principles, etc.

Began structural zoning out for each Module (15 sub models).

- Use output from GFEM.

Created Offset Calculator (Manufacturing builds tolerance analysis).

- Generated offset for sub-structure, access panels, doors & latches.

(Dependency: Manufacturing builds philosophy).

Generated master structural ply model for each module.

Identified fastener size, type and pitch.

- Start master fastener models.

Identified panel/part categorisation.

Created tooling data from interface models.

Generated 3D space allocation models.

Project Title CS100/CS300 Belly Fairing NACA Duct Design

Morson Projects were responsible for the complete DFM design and analysis of the Wing to

Body Fairing (including the NACA ducts) for the Bombardier CS100 and CS300 aircraft: this is

a very large and complex composite / metallic structure.


Project Title Fuel System Review

Client

As a strategic supplier to Airbus UK, Morson Projects were tasked to review fuel systems

associated with the A320 family of aircraft.

The Morson Projects Fuel Systems team has undertaking a wide-ranging investigation to

support a full fuel review of a very large volume of in-service data. This review identified

trends and patterns in terms of geography, airline and aircraft age, among others. This in

turn steered the direction of various fluid systems, avionics and equipment reviews.

Flowmaster modelling was carried out in order to support or disprove various failure

hypotheses. Additionally, rig- and flight-tests

have been defined in order to validate our

various assumptions and theories.

In the next phase of the project, problem

resolution and modification recommendations

will were defined and presented to the

Customer. Morson Projects delivered high-

quality service on time and below budget.


7. IT Software

Morson Projects has a comprehensive IT infrastructure. The Local Area Network (LAN)

connects in excess 300 PC’s and over 50 UNIX stations which are used to run Stress analysis

and CAD programs in our offices. All project reports and documentation is server based.

Each server is subject to rigorous security control and a regular back up regime. Morson

Projects achieves connectivity to the Internet via a 50Mbit MPLS wide area Ethernet

connection. This link is segregated from the LAN via a robust firewall. Morson Projects

carries a full suite of tools supporting the Project Management, Analysis and Design

functions.

Table 1 details Morson Projects current design & analysis software tools, this list however is

not restricted Morson Projects are always investing in complimentary tools to support /

satisfy the client’s needs and future requirements.
